Ahriman stretched as he began to wake. The sun was up and the sounds of the marsh reached his ears. The birds chirped and the insects were buzzing about, another day, another day...
Ahriman had made his home in the marsh areas of the Kawanii lands, he had found that few traveled here and he could live in peace. When he was younger, he had tried to integrate himself into the soquili community, only to end up run out or avoided completely. He had often wondered why he was treated so, but as he grew older and found his new home, he rarely thought of his past.
He made his way to his feet, it was time for his morning swim. A ritual that he did every morning, it was refreshing for him to swim in the cold murky water. His tail moved slowly back and forth as he walked further out, the water reaching his ankles....his knees......his belly....his back. It wasn't long before all that was visible was the top of his head and nose.

Guedes quietly plodded along, headed back to her home at the edge of the marshlands. Dawn had broke, the sun was rising higher and based on the area she was at least glad there were still thick treetops to shield her from the coming days heat.
Passing from the forest back into the marsh home was the big task, one she had gotten good at quickly over time. The point in her mind was to cross the water and muck quickly, quietly and avoid being seen. Setting down the large bundle of herb sprigs, nicked from a two-legger's camp no less, the mare looked around.
'Nothing. No one. Good.' Safe once more, she quickly proceeded through the shallow pools, failing to notice the crocodile-esque movement in the water off to one side.

His eyes saw her before she even reached the water, an enticing look mare carrying a bundle of something. He quietly watched as her short mane blew in what little wind passed through the area. She was covered in symbols and skulls, much like he was. Slowly and steady he moved over closer to her to get a better look at her. She didn't seem to have noticed him. Back and forth his tail moved as he glided through the water, stopping on yards from where she was making her way across the shallow end of the marsh.
He had never seen her in this area, especially not during his morning swim. He wondered who she was and where she was coming from...and what was she carrying? He knew better than to make himself visible though, it would only end with her either running away or getting upset with him...just like the others.
He went to move a little to the side to watch her as she left, he misjudged his movement and his tail lightly slapped the top of the water causing a rather sudden sound and large ripple in the water. Curses.

She slowed down her crossing as she reached the safety of the trees and overgrowth once more. Setting her bundle down, Guedes took another look around. Still empty but at least it would be clear and safe from this point on to get home and get things stored away. She was at least thankful for the fact that rarely any other creature passed through this area and the ones that did, took no regard of the failing shelter of rotting logs.
Moving down to recollect her things, a slap on the water's surface drew her attention back up. The mare quickly looked behind her, laying her ears back. Spotted.
"What are you doing here?!"

Damn, he was hoping that the mare would have gone on her way and left him in peace. He'd be more careful next time he saw a stranger.
"Me? I live here. What are YOU doing here?" he lifted his head out of the water as he spoke. His glowing blue eyes followed her movements, dirty water dripping from his mane and skulls. He didn't want to be rude to the mare, but she had been quite snappy and she was the one trespassing.
"Forgive me," he slowly made his way to the shallow end, walking far enough up to allow half of his body to show. "I was taking my morning swim and saw you travel by. It's rare to see the likes of another here."

"What am I doing here? You're the one trespassing through my area." She snapped back at him, standing guard over her stolen treasures. "I live here. Not that you need to know where or why." She snorted, watching as he rose up out of the water. His skulls immediately drew her attention, could he possibly be like her? Were they just treasures, gifts or prizes of combat? She continued on, seemingly less upset by the sight of them.
"No, I shouldn't have snapped...but I do live here. I've never once seen someone in this area though. Perhaps it's just that I'm late returning home this time..."

He stopped midway out of the water, not wanting to intrude into her personal space. He looked over her, she was a beautiful mare in a unique way.
"Perhaps. I swim every morning and this is the first time I've seen you passing. Perhaps you come through while I'm still sleeping..." his tail swished a little.
"I'm Ahriman, and you are...?" He tilted his head as he inquired, hoping that he was not being too inquisitive of her. "Your collection is quite interesting," he referred to her collection of skulls and trinkets.

"Perhaps I do pass through at that time." She stated, nodding slightly to him. Taking a moment to stuff her treasures away in a nearby log, the mare turned and started towards him though not treading far into the already deepening water.
"Guedes. ...and thank you. I took note of yours there. I have to ask...how ever did you aquire such trinkets?"

"Gifts from my father," was all he stated. He didn't see much of his parents, and the skulls were all he really had to remind him of them. His father had given him the trinkets when he passed through foalhood.
"And your's?" he looked over the ones in her mane and over the one at the top of her tail. "Your's are much larger," he was curious as to what type of creature they came from.

"Ah." She nodded again, flicking her tail slightly and looking him over. He definitely looked as if he had been alone for a while. Evidence of strength, muscle, everything one would usually see in a tough animal. Yet..so far he seemed gentle. Like he could possibly be trusted to her secrets.
"Found them. Here in the marshes...off in the forest. Here and there. Collected up to fashion something worthwhile." She stated, turning her head slightly to look back at the one attached to the base of her tail. "They don't serve any important purpose if that's what you're asking." She snapped again, quickly looking his way once more.

"Well, they are a magnificent collection." he nodded and smiled.
Casually he started to walk out of the water, the water dripped from his belly, legs, and tail. He wasn't good at making small talk as he rarely had anyone to talk to. Much less one that stayed around long enough to have a decent conversation with.
"Fashion? You call that fashion? You'd be better off with kelp hanging from your teeth! That's a very distasteful item for a mare to wear. Someone should have told you," he blurted out at her rather rude and sudden manner.

She nodded and smiled a bit, stepping back to allow him out of the water. She wasn't exactly expecting him to suddenly and verbally lash out at her.
"Come again?" She started, laying her ears back once more. What the hell just happened? Perhaps she did make a mistake believing she could trust him. He definitely wasn't going to be allowed anywhere near her home now for fear of what he could do to her once there. "You're attitude is the only distasteful thing around here now! But no, I was not aware that it was against some unspoken code for me to wear what I wish!" She scowled back, stepping further away from him.

Things had been going so well, what the hell happened now? Ahriman looked at her, a confused look on his face. He lowered his head a bit and took a step backward.
"All I did was compliment your collection, I..." he stopped and lifted his head. "I didn't mean to offend you, Miss." his ears flicked back and lowered against his skull. He just didn't understand.
"Have a good day," he nodded and turned to make his way back into the water.

"Well the same can be said about y--what did you say?" She asked, wondering what was going on. Guedes turned her ears back toward him, a confused look on her face. Not a moment ago he lashed out, acted as if the wrong thing would cause him to attack her. Now it was like nothing had ever happened.
"No! Come back here! I want to know what is going on, now!" She called, charging into the water after him.

"I merely complimented you on your trinkets and your reactions says it's not welcome, so, I'm going to let you be on your way." he stated as he was nearly again covered in water, turning only slightly to look back at her. He had learned not to try to make sense of other's actions, he would never understand them.
