Username: Chris Ganale

Character's Name: Chao Lingshen

Gender: Female

Age: 25 (biologically; chronologically, there's no damn telling)

Race/Species: Human/Chinese/Martian

Series: Mahou Sensei Negima/Kuro Arashi: The Black Storm

Reason person is on Gaia: Wandering dimensional traveler. What more reason is needed?

Personality: Once categorized squarely as a Well-Intentioned Extremist, Chao has since transitioned fully into the role of Science Hero/Genius Bruiser with a taste for justice, if not always honor. Truly, Good Is Not Nice with this Martian genius. Mischievous and fiercely intelligent, her mechanical skill is surpassed only by her magical prowess.

Appearance: [x] (Chao in Mahora Academy attire); [x] (Chao's Mk.II battle armor)

Background Story: For Chao's history up to the events of Mages vs. Mars, see this link; it's far simpler.

Now. Following the loss at Mages vs. Mars, Chao activated her third Cassiopeia unit, intent on returning to the Human-Covenant War to fight her own battles, as she had declared the intent to. However, she was intercepted by the Big Bad Kawakami Gensai in the timestream, who stole the device from her and kicked her out of the timestream...directly into the early stages of a global war orchestrated by Namusan Sapou and Gensai, two years following her defeat at Mages vs. Mars.

Incensed at this perversion of her creation, she immediately gathers all the droids that survived Mages vs. Mars, removes their zero-lethality limiters, and engages in a guerrilla campaign against the forces of darkness. With no support and no allies other than the droids, she fights alone for two years, when the mercenary group Kuro Arashi that had fought against her at Mages vs. Mars suddenly return from the temporal displacement trap that Gensai had set for them. Upon meeting Chao, it is revealed that she was the final Chosen Hero that had not yet been found to round out the group. She accepted her destiny immediately, and together with her newfound allies, proceeded to end what became known as the Unification War. They later went on to save their world.

During the course of her travels as part of Kuro Arashi, Chao developed the powers of a chronomancer, and simultaneously figured out how to use her abilities, with a little science, to bridge the dimensional gap between realms. Tucking that information aside, she then returned to her own time, the future from the world that she and Kuro Arashi had saved, to confront the threat of the Covenant. She was picked up by a squad of ODSTs explicitly ordered to be at her arrival site by their commanding officer, one of Chao's old Kuro Arashi allies whose ageless nature allowed her to live through to the 26th century. Alongside these ODSTs, she fought in the Second Battle of Earth, and five years later, in 2557 (yes, I Did The Research), she and an entire ODST battalion then proceeded to revisit Operation: VALID in a short conflict known as Second Mages vs. Mars, in which the Forced Recognition spell was successfully cast, validating the existence of magic as key to the survival of the human race, and giving a great big ******** you to the Office of Naval Intelligence while they were at it.

Obviously, such events would not come without a consequence, and fearing that Chao would be executed for her actions, her distant cousin, ODST squad leader Alysia Fei, activated a stolen copy of the Cassiopeia and threw it at Chao, then shot her with a time-displacement bullet. Where this combination of effects sent Chao is unknown, but she soon thereafter decided against returning to the past and living with her former allies, and became the dimensional traveler that she is known for today.

Job/Occupation: Kuro Arashi hero, chronomancer, dimensional traveler

How does your character know about the Crisis?- Many years ago, at least in her perspective, a missed coordinate on a slipspace jump brought Chao and the mage-marines of the 3rd Marine Special Operations Division to Gaia during the Demonbusters event. After participating in the battle, they returned to their own dimension. Recalling the looming crisis building alongside Demonbusters, the dimensional traveler has now returned to intervene, probably because she has nothing better to do.

Siding: Good-aligned. Despite wandering the dimensions as a loner, Chao still considers herself and acts in line with the rules of a Chosen Hero, and still has the class abilities metaphysical abilities to match.

Powers/Abilities:
Western Magic - An extremely-powerful mage specializing in fire magic:

Sagitta Magica Series Ignis - Fire magic is Chao's specialty, and she is known to be able to cast 59 magic fire missiles at once, as well as summon and hold. Considering the level of her magical power, it is almost a certainty she can cast more.
Omne Flammāns Flammā Purgātūs, Domine Extinctiōnis et Signum Regenerātiōnis, in Meā Manū Ēns Inimīc** Edat! Flāgrantia Rubicāns - A powerful fire magic, Red Blaze is a single-target spell that generates an immense heat upon its intended victim. The fire produced by this spell requires neither fuel nor oxygen, and therefore can be used underwater.
Ēvocātiō Spīrituālis de Ūndētrīgintā Salamandrīs Lanciferīs - This spell summons fire elementals in the form of salamanders, the number of which presumably follows the same conventions as casting sagitta magica.
Rheusantōn Pur kai Theion, ha Epephlegon Sodoma, Hamartōlous, Eis Choun Thanatou! Ourania Phlogōsis - The most powerful fire magic known in the world, Chao is the only person known to have mastered it. She cannot be interrupted in the process of casting this spell, which generates temperatures in excess of 30,000 degrees Fahrenheit and can encompass an area 200 feet across.

Heroic Destiny - Though the Unification War and related conflicts are over, gone, and even existed in an entirely different dimension, she still retains the cosmic/divine/what-have-you bonuses. This mostly manifests in the form of her chronomancer powers, which is essentially everything that she was seen doing in the Mahora Festival arc of Negima, Taken Up to Eleven.

Intelligence - Chao is a builder and a tinkerer. A whole day could be spent, and a whole post in and of itself, explaining and detailing her accomplishments and innovations, but we'll just leave it at the fact that she's a mechanical Houdini.

Chinese Martial Arts - During childhood, Chao self-studied kenpo as added self-defense. Once she arrived in Mahora, she expanded her training with her own ancestor, the later-legendary Ku Fei. She continued to hone her skill during her time in Kuro Arashi, making herself now on par with Ku Fei in her prime.

Weaknesses: Due to the loss of the spell sigils following her defeat at Mages vs. Mars, her latent ability to use magic was impaired, leaving her unable to access her higher-level spells except in magic-rich areas where she can draw magic from her surroundings. Because of this, her combat strategy is reliant on her technology, which she goes out of her way to disguise as reliance on martial skill.

Gear:
Chaobaozi Battle Armor Mk.III - The latest upgrade to Chao's armor contains all the same features as her Mk.II unit, as well as enhanced energy shields, strength augmentors, an active camouflage system, and a fully-retractable helmet with integrated HUD/VISR system, motion tracker, and biochemical filtration system.

Hammerspace Storage - Officially designated as "Flat-Space Dimensional Compression Technology" and created using such varying research developments such as the slipspace engine and the multitude of miniaturized technology within the MJOLNIR armor systems. This system allows users to store large numbers of items within a 'pocket dimension' similar to what is encountered in slipspace travel. Three such units exist on her Mk.III armor: one below her shoulder blades to store the funnels, one on her right hip to store weapons and equipment, and the third on her left holds her inventory useful items.

Weapon/Anti-Vehicle, Self-Propelled Model 6A2 Grindell/Galilean Nonlinear Rifle - Designed as part of Operation: VALID, Chao combined her miniature anti-gravity unit with the original, magically-powered design of the "Spartan laser" and slaved to her armor's AI for unmanned fire control, and the result was a much smaller, more compact version of the Spartan laser that has been nicknamed the "Wasp" partly due to its designation, and partly due to its small shape and rapid, random motions under AI control. The magic power source and anti-gravity unit prevent the "Wasp" from functioning unless directly powered by Chao's magic reserves, or in a particularly magic-rich area, where their ammunition is effectively unlimited.

Fei Ancestral Spear - A magic weapon passed down through many generations of the Fei family, said to originate from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms period, passed down to Chao as a parting gift prior to Mages vs. Mars. Ironically enough, doing this kept the weapon in the Fei family lineage.

Other: More will be added as necessary/thought of. The author slapped together this profile over the course of two days during intermittent breaks at tech school.
