The tall youth wandered along the side of the Weyr Bowl, glancing up towards the Flight occasionally. Shells, he hoped that sharding brown didn't win again. Bronzes were supposed to fly the gold dragons, not pathetic, good-for-nothing browns.

Hands were shoved into his pockets as he scuffed his feet along the stones and shuffled on. A small stone appeared in his path and he neatly kicked it, the toe of his worn boots neatly sending it flying a short distance before it hit and bounced forward another distance.

A small rock, not much more than a pebble, landed only a few feet in front of her. She had seen it roll its way over towards her, but hadn't really bothered seeing where the force that had moved the rock had came from. Almost as a natural reaction, she took an exaggerated step forward to kick at the small rock, sending it not but a few feet away from her.

Her gaze idly lifted to the flight, where the bronzes and browns joined into the frenzy of catching a gold. She hadn't minded that a brown had caught the gold the last time, as long as there was a decent clutch than everything should be alright. There was no reason to fret, unless you really wanted a gold egg. But, they already had one queen, why rush for one more? One queen could provide two clutches each turn, and at times that can be as high as eighty dragonets. One queen would be enough to fill up a Weyr in about three turns. There was no need to rush for another queen. It was alright to be somewhat laid back and let nature take its course. Kyra simply did not understand why it was so important that a bronze win the flight.

"Shells, some of these people are really messed up," and she continued her stroll through the Weyrbowl, and she didn't get very far until she was but a few feet from a tall boy. "Hey," she said, refusing to be bothered by the fact that she hadn't noticed him until now. Shards, he had probably been the one to kick the rock in the first place. But, he had gone unnoticed for her mind was on other things, the flight for the main reason. Weren't dragon emotions very influential on human emotions? Yeah, she remembered that now, it was mostly effective to the one bonded to the dragon, but the emotions could spread and that was why dragons weren't allowed near holds when they're near to rising. No one would want any unwanted pregnancies. "I think of the worse things," she mumbled, a hand being raised to run through her dirty-blond hair.

Kaledan didn't spot the girl for a while, his own eyes up on the Flight overhead as well. The raging emotions the dragons were leaking didn't affect the boy. You got used to them growing up, especially with all the greens. The Weyrbred quickly learned to filter them out and get on with whatever they were doing.

Kaledan was then reminded that he was supposed to be doing some chores, but the Flight had pushed some things out of people's minds and everyone was more worried over the candidates and weyrlings. No one bothered to even see if the weyrbrats were doing their chores and Kaledan took the opportunity to get out of doing them and watch a portion of the Flight. Well, as much as he could see from the ground.

The girl then spoke, drawing the boy out of his thoughts. "Hey." Was his answer, though it was more of a grunt than a word. One eyebrow raised as the girl muttered something, apparently talking to herself. Crazy, this one was. Uncomfortable and feeling a bit awkward, Kaledan glanced back up at the Flight. Too bad he couldn't see much, other than shiny specks darting about. He could distinguish the queen for her lighter and much brighter coloring, but the browns and bronzes all seemed alike at this distance.

"It looks like a dance," she said, gaze falling from the flying dragons to the boy. She wasn't getting much out of him, but that was almost to be expected. Kyra was not the almighty conversationalist. Sure she could get herself into a conversation, but if no one held up their part of the conversation, the conversation would go into complete silence because Kyra would do the same. Quiet was usually followed by quiet, and words were usually followed by more words.

"This is the first time I've seen a flight, mainly because I just came here. I sure heard about them in my studies, but it's always nice to be a witness. You learn more that way." It almost seemed as if she were desperate to break the silence, to bring some conversation in. It would help keep her mind off of the things she was supposed to be doing, seeing as Candidates did have chores, and seeing as she was at the moment skipping those chores.

"I'm Kyra, by the way, former beastcraft apprentice, and a candidate now." Always was it best to get formalities out of the way. They were dragging and boring, and Kyra just over all hated them. The interesting conversation came after introductions were through.

Kaledan grunted in response to most of the girl's comments. Ugh, conversation. He hated it. Why did people like to talk, anyways? He got along just fine with only the bare minimum of speech. He glanced back at the girl. She did look fairly new. But that didn't help much, considering how he hardly saw anyone anyways. But she had that look, the one that candidates had for a while, of awe at being at a Weyr and around dragons.

"Kaledan. Weyrbred." Once again, his speech was half grunt, half words, but it was clear enough to get the point across.

"How unique," she said with sarcasm dripping from each syllable. This boy seemed to purposely not want to talk to her, and it did happen to get on her nerves, if only a little bit. She was trying to make conversation, and the attempts she made were turned down by some brat a few turns younger than herself. Oh well, if he was going to be antisocial, she was going to downright be mean. It was how things worked, wasn't it? You felt mistreated and so you responded in a poor way. That was the human way, and well, Kyra was going to follow that instinct gleefully.

"I suppose you're rather fond of flights though, being a young man of your age and all. Isn't it a nice excuse to do things that wouldn't be expected of you until you were older?" Perhaps she was being just a tad too nasty, but Kyra was always one to resort to some form of anger. She really had not broke herself of the habit since leaving her hold to go into the practice of beastcraft. Her anger had always been there, but subdued because she had a duty to herself, and that was to become a Journeywoman. But, now that her sense of duty had slightly withered away, the anger came back with greater force.

((hope you guys don't mind if I join!))

Chaeren stood on the edge of her dragons sunning ledge that was attached to her weyr. Being on the highest floor of the Weyr, the view from the ledge was a good one. There being no thread today. Chaeren was wearing the clothes she had worn as a harper before she had impressed Yersith. Her shirt was a light blue, tight around the bust and loose around the rest of her torso, with long flowing sleeve that started at her elbow, while the rest of her arm above that had tighter blue cloth covering it. She wore a long blue skirt that went down to just below her knees, with a pair of loose white pants under that. She wore a vest as well, in it's pocket rested a newly hatched bronze firelizard. He only fit partially though, leaving his wings and tail to dangle out as he watched attentively. Having just been fed, he crawled sleepily up to his bonded's shoulder, chirpling contentedly as he did so. He wrapped his long tail around Chaerens throat and left the rest of him to sleep comfortably on her right shoulder. Chaeren smiled at the small reptile and stroked him as he fell asleep. She too was watching the flight.

Yersith padded up beside her rider and sat there, watching as well. For a time, dragon and rider sat and peace, watching the whirling multitude of dragons above them.
Finally yersith spoke to her rider. 'Mine, I would like to go sun on the outer ridge.'

Chaeren looked around at her mount and patted her shoulder affectionately.
'Go ahead love, but could you drop me off down in the bowl first? I'd like to stretch my legs.'

Yersith agreed and seconds later Chaeren and her dragon were making the easy drop down into the bowl. The girl slipped off with ease and watched as her dragon made her way to the outer ridge of the Weyr were there was the most sun currently.
The woman looked around, long black hair swaying as she did so, and spotted two youngsters off to one side, apparently watching the flight. The green rider made her way over them and stopped a few feet away and joined them in looking up.
"Pretty, isn't it?" she said eventually, still looking up. She had heard the girls angry tones, and was hoping to distract her from that anger.

Kaledan snorted at the girl's response, not dignifing either one with a response. She was probably affected by the Flight overhead, so he wasn't going to even say anything to her. He looked down from the flying dragons to glare briefly at the girl, then heard a woman's voice from behind.

He turned to look at the woman, a greenrider from her knots. He grunted in response, a slight affermative tone to the grunt. It was pretty. What they could see of it, at least. One small golden speck, flying around and leading the other, darker, specks across the blue Pernese sky. Poetic, if one thought of it that way.

Kyra turned her gaze to the greenrider, and it was apparent that she had not expected anyone else to show up, and what was even more apparent was that she wasn't happy with the sudden arrival. Someone could've picked a more perfect time to meet Kyra. Shells, she was upset and randomly this greenrider comes around so she has to show some respect. The woman probably had seen her anger, and there went what shred of reputation she had managed to gain while being here.

"Indeed," she replied, not bothering to introduce herself to the greenrider mainly because she was feeling... almost ashamed. Someone she hadn't intended to let see had just saw her anger, and they probably got a bad feeling about her. What would be wrong with making it actually seem true, that she was a bad kid? Kyra wasn't bad, she just refused to do some things that people wanted her to do. She skipped chores, but that was normal for any rebellious teen. What was the big deal about letting her see the anger that could be provoked?

Oh, shard it all. "I'm Kyra," she murmured, gaze flickering back up to the sky and to the dragons in flight. She was entirely ignoring the boy now, because he had not fallen for her bait, and she was rather annoyed with him. It would be best if she just left him be and refused to show anger once again. 'Sharding weyrbrats...' she thought angrily.

Chaeren smiled at the girl. She didn't think the girl was usually like this. She just go the feeling she was in a bad mood.
"It's nice to meet you Kyra, I'm Chaeren, rider of green Yersith and weyrsinger." she said with a small nod to the candidate girl, though she looked at the boy too to let him know she was speaking to him as well.
The newly hatched bronze on her shoulder looked around and chirped sleepily to the upset girl. He stretched his wings and sat up on his owners shoulder and looked around again, more awake now.
"Oh yes, and this is Basa." the rider said with a smile.

Kaledan glanced at the greenrider, taking in the name. "You're new." He stated, this time his words more that, with hardly any grunt. His way of showing some respect. He looked the woman over. Yes, she was not from here. He at least knew most of the riders by sight, even if he didn't know their names.

A weyrsinger, eh? He liked to listen to music. He couldn't sing, but he did like to listen. "Kaledan." He stated, nodding a greeting to the woman.

"It's nice to meet you as well," Kyra responded, and this she would only say to Chaeren. She was in no mood to hold any civilized conversatino with Kaledan, and it was possibly because her anger had succeeded in getting the better of her. Kaledan hadn't done much wrong other than not respond to her decently, but even with that tiny fault Kyra had picked at it, allowed her anger to grow because she had refused to let it so long before.

"He's cute," Kyra admitted with a fond little smile directed at Basa. It was completely the opposite of what she was feeling, though. Kyra was still angry at Kaledan, but she wouldn't let the anger get in the way of meeting someone new. Anger could be controlled, but only if the person who was angered wanted to control it. Kyra could unleash her anger later, for now she just wanted to admire the little bronze firelizard.

"Yes, I am new. I just transferred from Benden yesterday." The green rider explained.
"I heard of the need for more adult dragons here, so Yersith decided to move south where it was warmer." she said and chuckled. The riders pale skin was testimony to this story, making it obvious she was telling the truth. No person who spent much time in the south was that pale. "Well it's very nice to meet you Kaledan." she said with a nod.

'The girl is angry. At the boy I think. I do not believe she likes him much.' Her dragon said in a sleepy voice in her mind, pointing out the obvious.
'Yeah, no kidding love. Something must have happened before I got here. He doesn't seem terribly talkative does he?' she replied, halfway amused.

Her mental conversation was interrupted by four other firelizards suddenly swooping down from somewhere up above, chirping loudly. A blue landed on the riders shoulder, only to be dislodged by a second bronze that was slightly smaller than Basa. A brown and the blue that had been shoved off, as well as another blue swooped and darted about in a happy and excited manner.
Chaeren let out a piercing whistle and all of them suddenly calmed. THe three without human perches landed on a rock not far away. "You'll have to excuse them. They've only just hatched so they don't have much discipline and are easily excited by new people." the woman said, slightly embarassed for her flits behavior.

Kaledan nodded to the greenrider again, then blinked as the air around them was suddenly filled with firelizards. Once they settled, the boy couldn't help but be jealous. He didn't have even one and here this woman already had five, and all recently hatched, it appeared.

What the woman said confirmed the boy's thoughts and he stared at the three on the rock. They were rather useful creatures, even if they acted rather silly at times. Lucky woman. Kaledan wished for just one of the miniture dragons. Oh well. "Must have your hands full..." He muttered as he glanced at the greenrider.

Kyra seemed quite more interested with the flitts than she did with the other two. Perhaps it was her beastcrafter background popping up again. Kyra didn't care about people, she cared about the beasts of Pern, and even these little firelizards intrigued her. "I can't believe you have so many," she said, though it was only spoken to reassure Chaeren that Kyra was still slightly in the mood for conversation. It just seemed a little rude to let yourself fall in love with a bunch of flitts without even talking to the person who owned the flitts.

"They must be a bother to take care of, especially when they're young. I wouldn't know, though, I'm just a former beastcrafter, and I haven't seen many firelizards." She explained simply, and it was becoming easy to talk to Chaeren, while it was still nearly impossibly for someone to get Kyra to talk to the weyrbrat. He had just gotten on her nerves, and she would continue to ignore him as if he did not even exist.
