Music filled his head, music his owner used to listen too before he escaped for the great out doors. The gray male Korat wandered down the streets near the center of town, dodging people and dogs a like. Long black hair covered a pale face, bright green eyes glistened in the midday light. The sky was blue, birds were chirping, and he had a light step.

Bare feet practically skipped down the street as he danced and twirled to music no one could hear but himself. He was a hippy, that was for sure. In a random outfit he found in a box next to a dumpster; an over sized tee shirt tucked into a pair of skin tight jeans with wholes everywhere, he still had his collar and bell about his neck. He jingled with every bounce and laughed when anyone looked at him weirdly. What did he care? He was free from that horrible house where he didn't belong.

He was gay, he knew that, but his breeder didn't when she bought him. When she stuck him in a cage with a female in heat, he'd stayed away from her and ignored her, much to the females chagrin and his owners dislike. Whatever. The moment his owner opened the front door, he bounded out of that cage (which wasn't closed all the way) and out the door. His owner didn't even chase after him. Instead, she hollered a 'good riddance' as he rounded the corner. This was his chance to be like the cats he heard from inside. The outside cats sounded so happy, so free with their singing, their urges, their music. Now he was going to be exactly like one.

Just as he entered the middle of town, a smell hit him and made his stomach grow. He'd forgotten to eat before he left. "Oh, well. I'm sure I can find some food on my own! That thought stuck in his head, he headed for the smell, only to find it was a bar-b-que in a back yard with a huge dog there begging for meat.

Jude's ears drooped as his stomach growled louder and he turned away. No way he was risking his life around a big dog like that. No way in hell! Dogs were evil creatures that loved to chase and hurt cats. No matter how the seemed to be 'getting along' there was always tension, always a fight when humans couldn't see it.

The sleek Exotic wandered down the street with his hands stuffed in the pockets of his hoodie, his shoes scuffing the ground with every step he took. Hesitant. Nervous. Kiba was nervous. A Freecollar... He reached up to touch the black leather collar around his neck. He needed to get rid of it. He had to break free, to become a true stray. But he was afraid. He knew he'd never find another home, not after two failures... But the idea of never being stroked again while laying on a lap of a human made him sad.

His dark hair fell into his face, a near black chopped in layers, the front white blond. Pale green eyes surveyed the streets as he slipped around people, resisting the urge to reach out to them and purr. No. He was going to be a stray! He didn't need humans...

He watched as a gray tom peered around a fence, then laid his ears back. He turned away in an almost sorrowful manner and it made Kiba...curious. Slowly, he crept up and rested his hands against the fence, finding the smell of a bar-b-que heavenly...but there was a giant dog. Complete with a wagging tail and happy flop ears, but dogs were scary. With a small sigh, he watched the Korat leave. How he wanted to reach out, to talk to him...

A scent hit his nose, another tom about? Peridot eyes looked around and he spotted the Exotic collared cat and almost instantly cheered up. Forget about his stomach, now was time for friend making. He wasn't a true Freecollar, but... he was on the street! Most house cats weren't. The Korat with the straight black hair that went down to his knees rushed over to the black and white and grinned, getting in the others face.

"Hey there! Wow... You're the first of your color I've seen!" Well, he'd only seen other Korats, so, big surprise there. But the other male didn't know that! He chuckled at his own thoughts and held out a delicate hand. "I'm Jude. Jude Halt and I just escaped my home today. I want to be a stray. But it's harder than I thought it would be. See, I'm starving and that BBQ looks really tempting, but the dog doesn't." He nodded a bit and grinned. He saw the other had peered over the fence as well.

Despite his looks, Jude was actually well built. Just his hands were delicate; he was a muscular cat with a sleek tail, lightly tanned skin and those eyes that seemed to deepen when he was happy or sad. The other had very similar eyes, Jude noticed. Flicking his slender tail, he pushed his hands into his pockets as far as the tight pants would let him. They clearly didn't fit him, like the shirt didn't. It kept sliding off his shoulder. He was covered in the scent of females in heat, which he couldn't get off of him for some stupid reason. But.. maybe it would work to his advantage. After all; Jude was interested in other males, why not make other males interested in him? He might have long hair, but his height made up for it; he was tall for his breed.

Kiba wanted to call out to the other male, to make friends, perhaps, but he was the nervous sort and instead, turned away. Until a voice called out to him. Kiba froze, ears pulling back. What did he do now? This was what he wanted, right? Oh gosh...

He offered the gray tom a small smile, looking him up and down. He looked...strange. Different. Different than him, anyways. He tilted his head to one side, watching curiously. His color was unique? "Jude..." he repeated softly. "You...escaped?" He looked surprised, his mouth making an 'o' shape. "W-Why? Didn't they treat you good enough?" He, on the other hand, didn't want to be a stray, but this was the life he was going to have to live with. Darien had promised him it would be fine... So he believed him.

He sniffed slightly, smelling the strangest smell on Jude. Not something he'd smelled before, yet... A light blush warmed his cheeks. "Not that it's my business... I'm Kiba."

He smiled brighter when Kiba actually talked back to him. He thought the other might just wander off and ignore him again. "I escaped, yeah. 'cause ....well, I didn't like it there. It wasn't that they weren't nice to me, but I was in a cage a lot and I didn't like that. So I left." he nodded firmly at that and then grinned. The other was blushing, but why? Jude tilted his head to the side, that black hair falling with the movement. His hair looked silky and soft, and it actually felt that way. He took excellent care of himself, that much was sure. At least his hair. But still, he was hungry and his stomach let that be known. Now it was Jude's turn to blush.

Clearing his throat, Jude moved a better distance away from Kiba. "Kiba, huh? I like that name. I don't mind if you ask, I just... won't speak of the exact technicallities of why I left. Not exactly a proud thing."

"Oh..." He said as he listened. A cage. A shiver ran down his spine. He wouldn't like to spend time in a cage either, so he couldn't quite blame this gray stranger that he ran away. "I was never put in a cage, so I wouldn't know..." His voice was soft as he remembered first the man, and then the boy, as they stroked his ears and chin. His ears pulled back as sadness touched his heart, but he chased it back out. He puffed his chest out. "I guess I'm a free collar now. No way to go back. We can only go forwards..." He trailed off as Jude's stomach rumbled and he giggled. "You're hungry... I could go for some fish... Wanna...join me in a walk to the Market?" His head tilted, green eyes shining a little curiously.

The.... market? How did a cat get fish in a market? When Jude tried earlier, he got things thrown at him and cursed at, even kicked at! Still, this Kiba must know something he didn't about getting food. So, Jude nodded and grinned before throwing an arm around the other male's shoulder. "Sure, I will! Just... I don't want to be kicked at again," a frown appeared o his lips at that and h sighed heavily. Humans seemed really mean. Why some cats liked them was beyond this green eyed male.

Kiba nodded. "I don't blame you. I got kicked at the first few times...but I think I'm getting the hang of it." Stuffing his hands in the pockets of his oversized hoodie, he giggled a little at the other boy's arm thrown around him, then blushed and shrugged. Then, as if reading the other's throughts, he smiled. "Two-Legs aren't -all- bad... Just some of them. I've had...two owners now. I wish I could find another, but ya know? Maybe I'm just destined to be free..." Even if that was a disheartening thought. Free and alone? He prayed not.

As they came upon the market, Kiba crouched down, dragging Jude with him. "Okay. See that table? We'll get under there. That's base. That's safe; they never look under the flap-thing. Ready? On my count." His ears pinned back but on three, he darted forwards and slid under the table with the plastic cover. Safe.

When the other man dragged him down, he laughed a little bit and looked to where Kiba was directing them. Oh, that table looked delicious. Jude's mouth watered at the sight of all that fish and his stomach started rumbling up again.

He didn't really hear what Kiba had said, but he darted with the other cat did and got under the flap of the table, situating himself and making room. Then, he pulled his tail in, having forgotten about it, and blinked. OK. They were here now, close together. Grinning at his luck, Jude moved over and nuzzled up against the black and white. "OK, smart one. What now?"

Kiba's heart was pounding, but he wasn't exactly sure if it was because of the run-and-hide, or because Jude was nuzzled up next to him all cozy-like. He felt a blush creep across his cheeks and he puffed up a little, taking a deep breath. "Okay. Now... Now we wait for the Two-leg to turn away, and we snag a fish from off the top of the table." And they smelled heavenly. He knew some cats didn't prefer fish, but he hoped Jude was hungry enough that it didn't matter. Peeking out from under the tarp, he tensed, watching as the man in the apron turned away, and then snaked a hand out. Grabbing a big fish off the top of the table, he pulled it under and held his breath. No yelling. They didn't see that. "See?" He smiled, albeit a little weakly at his new friend. "Nothin' to it. Now, let's scram."

He watched Kiba carefully. After all, when Kiba was gone, Jude would once again be on his own, and he'd have to remember all of this. It didn't look so hard; just a timing issue thing. His tail flicked as he looked at the fish and his stomach growled. He took it from Kiba and stuffed it in his mouth, going to leave from under the protection of the sheet thing. "Free...fo...ne!" he counted down, fish in mouth, and ran back the way they came. He prayed to whatever God was up there that dogs didn't chase them, or worse, human children!

Kiba ambled after him as fast as his feet could carry him. His tail lashed back and forth with nerves, but no one saw them. No one cared. They made it to the alley without a kick or a yowl. Kiba slowed and padded alongside the gray tom. "Wonderful. Now all we need is a place to live out the rest of our stray-hoods." His voice held a tinge of bitterness to it. He missed his homes, both of them. But he knew that he couldn't go back. It was destiny, to live alone.

He was silent for many moments before clearing his throat and looking up at the tom through clear green eyes. "Where do you stay? I'll walk you home." He blushed for a moment, wrapping both arms around himself.

The American Short-hair looked over to his new friend and frowned at the bitterness in his voice. He wrapped an arm about Kiba's shoulders as they walked, sighing quietly. His poor friend. What Jude wouldn't give to take away anyone's bad experiences and turn them into something good. But the bad and the good made a person or cat who they were. He stopped Kiba then, and stood in front of him, placing their foreheads together, nothing more.

"It'll get better, Kiba..." He whispered softly, trying to get him to smile. "You'll see. It'll get so much better and then you'll be so happy. You'll find someone to settle with, have babies one way or another, and wonder why you spent all this time hating things. Hate is a waste of time, neh? So just... chin up." He tapped Kiba's chin before kissing his cheek and tugging him forward carefully.
