"C'mon now, don't start laggin' behind." Swift amber eyes danced viciously as the mare peered over her shoulder at her scowling brother. Oh yes, that touched a nerve. The pale colt bounded over the log he'd just been in the process of lightly climbing over, bolting past her with the sun glaring off his small patches of armor. Armor like their father's... Edana's own shimmering pieces served as a comfortable, sturdy weight on her neck and chest, a thin chain round her leg clanking softly yet another tie to her parents. The parents that had given Arthur permission to travel out this way in the first place.
With the proper escort, of course.
The thief kept her pace easy as she caught up with him, watching him with curious eyes as he stood stern and almost foreboding atop a mound of near frozen earth. "Don't tire yerself out, either. Ya really wanna look a mess when we get to 'em?" This got Arthur's pose to slack, slipping down from the dirt pile to walk carefully beside his big sister.
"We've been traveling for a few days now - never mind that stop in the two-legger village." His expression drew cross as he spoke of this - Edana wore a new puka shell necklace she'd 'acquired' while they stopped for food and water in the village. As interesting as it had been for him to watch those strange creatures, the fact she often went their for trinkets was... not something he was proud to be aware of. Especially since he'd been utterly powerless to stop her as he hadn't learned about it until she'd donned it a half a day's run from the site of the theft.
"Hey, we needed food. And why not get some of the treats they've got, eh?"
"You stole from them!"
Edana scowled. "Just a necklace, so shut up. Nothin' t' do with ya." He noticed her style of speech was changing, yet again. Spending far too much time with that Kione. A good friend... a horrible person to count on to keep her out of trouble. "Now don't look so glum, Arthy," she quickly started, making him glower even more at the use of that ridiculous nickname. "That was the last river we needed to cross t' get to Claude's. His place should be somewheres around here..." She trailed off, falling back into memories of Fearthainn's explanations and directions. Arthur had straightened himself, ears flicking each way to perhaps detect the one they sought. The knight who trained his eldest sister, the one his father sent him to now to continue his training. The thought of it all sent shivers down his spine... though they were hardly unpleasant in their source.
He was excited, he was anxious... and he was going to never travel with Edana again if they were lost. Their hooves crunched over the almost-but-not-quite frozen grass, the lake a glowing mirror to their right in the sunlight. Winter hadn't lost its grip on the world yet, but at least it looked like he would see his first spring soon enough. Pretty as it all was... her near empty look around didn't make him feel any better about it all, nor allow him to appreciate the scene and coming season change for what it all was.
