The evening was a hazy one, the clouds greedily covering the beautiful moon and stars for themselves, not allowing the rest of the world to see. Ceros gazed up, his eyes glowing faintly as he thought of his herd. Nostalgia gripping at his being. His herd form the desert, The Followers of the Stars they called themselves. They were an ancient herd that roamed the desert, following the north star. All were unicorns and each had the proud tail of the lion, along with glowing eyes, hooves, and horns. They all had the beautiful, delicate manes of night cloud, however, only some were adorn with beautiful stars and moons. As Ceros' was. The stars and the phase of the moon symbolized status in the herd. Monoceros had been chosen to become the next chief. But...as fate would have it. He was banished, and the herd left him alone.
Looking up at the sky now made him even more depressed. He was in a strange land, and the stars and moon felt like the only things that connected him to his former life and lands. But now, even they had disappeared. He shook his head and looked down, sullen and crushed by the thought. Face hard. As he moved, his mane gently floated and a small part separated and evaporated into the air. The moon and stars gently bouncing in the dark cloud.

It was not a good night for Forest to be out. Not at all. It was dark, and so the cloudy haired mare was having a tough time even seeing things close to her. Head down, she stared at the ground, each step careful and slow. Normally, she could see a certain distance in front of her, before the shapes merged into blurred blobs and eventually disappeared into nothingness. However nights like these cut off so much of the light that she couldn't even see to her full range. She should have stayed the night with her father. But no, she had to be her usual stubborn self and say she'd be fine. She paused to look around. Where was she now, anyway? She was out of the trees... oh that wasn't good, then she must be far from her intended destination. She cursed quietly. Then froze. Several blueish lights pierced through her horrid vision. She started walking again, quicker now. She had no idea what it was, but whatever it was, it was her best point of reference. Perhaps some fireflies she could rest under. Or fire lights outside a teepee of some two legger.
However she neared and... froze again. There was a large, shape. She squinted to try and see better, but it was still difficult from this distance. It looked like a horse shape... Almost like her father, with the uni tail... And the glowing was coming from this stranger. She was met with a strange sort of reluctance she normally didn't have. Perhaps it was just her lack of vision and bearings that was making her feel this way. Suck it up, Forest! She told herself. Taking a step forward again, she called out to the glowing stranger. "Hello, you there!"

As Ceros lost himself in thought, his large, keen ears perked up at the sound of another. He instantly returned to reality, and using the light from his horn and eyes, looked around for the new comer, curiosity overcoming his sadness. Having only been in these lands for no more than three suns, just hearing the sound, or sensing the presence of another Soquili created a dream like feeling for him. Like he was finding treasure, or being approached by one of the Star Spirits from his herd's legends. He looked around eagerly for whomever was approaching. His eyes, which were naturally adapted for use at night, saw every leaf, every detail of his surroundings clearly. As he searched, his mind buzzed with the possibilities of the new-comer. What would they look like? Talk like? What was their story? Would they be interested in showing him around these lands? Then, his eyes found her. She was a mare, very pretty, he thought, a pale color, strange strips and markings all on her body. But what really struck him was her mane and tail. He gasped and stood in shock for a minute. Could she possibly be? Was he going home?
When he heard her speak, he quickly shook himself to his senses and walked right up to her, his face filled, glowing with hope and excitement. "Hello, Hello! its so good to see you! Ive been so lost, I lost track of our herd on that night. have you come in search of me? Come to take me back? How did you find me? Do you know the way back to our herd? You do not realize just how happy I am to see you here!"

Woah! The sudden appearance of the glowing stallion into her limited field of vision started the mare and she pulled back, not even registering that he had spoken for a few moments. She blinked, calming after a moment. Well... ok so he was glowing. His horn, eyes... Her eyes traveled down. And hooves. That was strange. Then again so was her mane an- The puffy haired mare blinked. His mane was puffy to! And it had things in it that glo- Wait, herd? She wasn't part of a herd. Unless you counted her parents and her sisters... which wasn't really a herd since her sisters lived far away, and she was moving away from her parents whenever she could get away from her dad's paranoid and watchful eye. Which she was starting to understand a bit... Though, weren't parents suppose to want their kids to go off, have more kids, and stuff? She didn't understand the protectiveness he seemed to have. Anyway, back to the problem at hand.
"What? No. No, I'm not part of any herd. I was just heading to my sleeping place..." She looked around, squinting a little. "Though I think I got off course..." She hated to admit it. But no taking it back now. She looked back to the puffy maned stallion curiously. "Your lost from your herd?" Seriously? They must not all be glowy then, cause how could you loose track of a herd full of glow horses? "Listen, bud, I don't know who you are...or what this herd is your talking about...sorry." She added in the apology, which was a bit odd for her. But she found herself correcting her harsh words more and more. That was good though, right? She needed to stop with the petty arguments? Dammit, not time to be thinking about that.

Ceros blinked and took a step back. Not from his herd? She was unfamiliar with it? He bit his lip, that meant... "I am so sorry miss. I didn't mean to burst out on you like that. It was very rude of me and I do apologize." He bowed his head, truly hoping he had not cause any harm. He kicked himself mentally for suddenly springing on a complete stranger.
When he once more raised his head, he looked back at her and continued to explain himself. "It was very wrong of my to make the assumption that I did, I should have introduced myself first and then asked." He smiled nervously, his eyes illuminating her pale face and the light bouncing on her cloud-like mane.
"You see, I have lost my herd and ended up here, in these alien lands. I am from the desert and all the members of my herd posses clouds of mane. When I saw yours I just jumped on the opportunity in blind hope that you could help me." Quickly bowing his head once more, making the moon in his mane slide forward. "I truly am sorry. I hope that you can at least forgive me for my insolence."

"Ah... well that's ok then..." Forest stumbled a bit at his hasty apology. She didn't know how to act with someone talking to her like that. And apologizing like that. "Really, its ok I guess... No harm or anything. Just a bit startling." She nodded. "And that makes sense, I mean if your herd all had fluffy hair and you had gotten lost, seeing someone who looked like they belonged would be exciting. How in the world did you get lost though? I mean are you the only one who glows in your herd?" The last bit was a rather rude sounding question but it got blurted out against better judgment. When did she get good judgment anyway? Ugh this was not the time to be having internal dialogue, she kicked herself mentally.
"Your far from the desert though, I don't think I've ever even seen a desert before. So... not sure if I can help you at all. But I can forgive you, I guess..." No, bad Forest, call him an idiotic cloud head or air brain or something... But she couldn't. She'd been called names for her fluffy hair and so met with another like her...who wasn't in her family... well she felt a bit odd being her normal self. Which she hadn't been much lately anyway. Darn it.

Ceros could not help but chuckle with her statement on his glowing. It had been indeed funny. "No I am not, though I am one of the few whose mane are adorn with celestial beings. When one has their mane decorated in such a way it represents their stature in the herd. I was the be the next leader you see." The thought of his made his heart throb slightly. "I was lost because I had walked too far from my herd while doing an errand, and the desert being what it is, caused me to lose them, and myself, completely. It is not called the Desert of Illusions just because of the mirages." He laughed softly. He smiled at her, grateful for her apology. "You are very kind miss. And I wish not to trouble you, I am sure you were one your way somewhere before stumbling upon me, but would he show me around?" He bite his lip in an awkward begging smile. She was truly kind, he could see it in her eyes, and he still liked her for her mane. He knew appearances truly meant nothing, but it made him feel so at home he could not fight it.

"Oh? That's kinda cool then. Must really suck that your lost then. Guess that's why you figured I was part of your herd. I mean they must be looking for you if your so important." She shrugged. "I wasn't going anywhere important." She corrected him. "Just to my normal sleeping spot. Its not far from here. I have to stay around this area cause my parents live here and my dad isn't to keen on me wandering off." Why was she saying this? She needed to shut up.
His request startled her and for a moment Forest just sat and blinked. "Uh... I guess I could...if you wanted..." She wasn't sure how much help she would be though. She was mostly blind, which she had yet to mention. She didn't want to mention it really. It was a weakness and she didn't like it. "Er... do you mean right this second or...like some other time?" She tilted her head.

Ceros nodded, wondering if they were looking for him or if they had already given up. He wondered who would take the role of Leader now, his sister? Or some other male? At the thought of his sister he felt the most longing. She had been born small, but with a heart of pure gold. She was beautiful beyond words, and thus had many males after her. He had protected her from it because it frightened her. Now he was worried if she was doing alright without him. "We don't have to go far from here if you do not wish to leave your parent's land. Though I am strong and have good night vision to protect us with. I would not let anything harm you." He smiled thoughtfully. Now he took a closer looking into her eyes, something seemed a little lost and squinted. He closed his eyes and concentrated; and suddenly his horn and the stars and moon on his mane began to glow even brighter. "Does this help your eyes at all? They seem a bit irritated."

"Its not that I don't want to leave, dad just gets worried and upset if I do because it can be hard for me to get around sometimes. Especially at night." She shrugged. Oh my god she really needed to shut her mouth before she spilled the beans on her blindness. Crap crap crap. Forest blinked when the light got brighter. It did help a bit, she could see better in light then in darkness. She already could see him fairly well because of his glowing. But the details of him shone better now. It calmed a part of her as well. The part that was frightened at night. The part that kept her listening to her father and staying close when she wanted to just go sometimes.
Forest opened her mouth to thank him and inform him that it does help. However she caught herself. "They aren't irritated! What do you mean they seem irritated? How can you tell? Jeez They aren't ok, I'm just mostly blind, alright?" Oops... She realized her mistake a moment to late. "Uh...forget I said that..." Not only did she not like to tell people, because it was a weakness, but also because it was dangerous. Vary dangerous.

Ceros's lips curled into a gentle smile that reflected in his eyes when he saw her slightly ease up. The tenseness in some of her muscles loosened as her concentration on her vision waved slightly.
"Better?" He asked hopefully just as she hurriedly asked how he had noticed her slight agitation.
"Oh, ah..." he stumbled uncertainly, "Its just you were squinting and I could tell you were having a bit of sight trouble." But then her last statement really made him blink in confusion. "Blind?" He repeated hastily. This was bad, was it his fault? Was it his light making her go blind? Had she been hurt? But then he took a breath. She wasn't completely blind, she just said 'mostly'. And if she were really blind then she wouldn't have been looking at him the way she was.
"Ah...Is there anything i can do for you?"

Crap well... seems like he wasn't just going to forget. Ugh and now he was making a fuss over her about it. She hated that. She was just fine by herself. Just fine. "No there is nothing you can do for me. I'm fine. I just don't see so well in the dark or far away things. Its not a big deal." She snorted lightly. Her mom was totally blind, and did just fine so seriously what was the problem. Forest shook her head and looked away, annoyed at herself. "I'm fine." She repeated, almost as if to assure herself. "Thanks though, its easier to see with the light. Makes me calmer, I guess." She went quiet, staring away from him, into the darkness. She couldn't see anything past the small area he that was lit up by him. It was unsettling and she didn't really like the dark because of that. Dark, scary things lurked beyond her vision and though try as she might to be brave, tough, a part of her was still frightened. However Forest knew herself well enough to keep these thoughts from showing.

Ceros' worries calmed as he listened to her repeat over and over that she was fine. Trying to reassure him that this weakness she had relieved to him was nothing more than a blemish. A small fault. But something about her repetition and tone, almost as if the speech was rehearsed and repeated many times in the past, told him it was a troubling thing for her. he smiled gently when she slowed to a stop in her talking. "Your fine then? You know, just to make sure." he laughed, hoping his joke didn't hurt her. He shifted his stance so that he was once again what she was looking at and smiled very kindly. He knew what it meant to have a weakness, something like a secret. And Ceros could more than tell that Forest was now uncomfortable with his knowledge of her fault. Now something in him was determined to regain her trust, and maybe feel a bit safer about her situation. He abandoned all thoughts of himself and came up with an idea.
"Hey, I want to show you something. If that is alright with you?" His head cocked and his smiled widened as he increased his light for her. "its not far, and i think you may like it."
