Thought I'd try to do this in character.... smile

"...another one, eh? I've been getting a lot new trainers around here I don't recognize lately...and somehow, I have a feeling that can't bode well...."
The fisherman glances back at his line, which doesn't look like it's moved for quite awhile, then back to you; "who am I? ...no-one special, that's all you need to know for now, but I -can- give you some advice on hold items for your Pokemon if you'd like...yeah, it sounds cliche', but if the person I -think- sent you here actually did, then he thinks it's worth your time to know.

Reaching into a bag that looks not at all meant for fishing, he pulls out what appears to be a small claw or large tooth; "This is a Quick Claw; yeah, it -does- look like a big tooth, doesn't it? Maybe that's got something to do with why it does what it does.... Under normal battle circumstances, this little gem'll sometimes allow your Pokemon to move before your opponent does, regardless of what he's thinkin' of doing...and for big, slow Pokemon, like my Torterra over there," he points off about 15 yards away to a rather large Torterra basking next to the lakeside; noticing your precense, the Pokemon glances your way briefly, yawns, then looks lazily back at a school of Magikarp splashing along; "that can make all the difference...imagine that big lug suddenly Seed Bombing something into the next time zone before it can even react! ...nothing personal, Makoto...."
The Pokemon's only reaction is to yawn even more markedly than before....

"Let's see here," the fisherman started, as he dug through his box, which seemed far too small to contain all the things he'd gathered over his travels; he starts for a moment, then pulls out an item that looks vaguely like a crescent-shaped claw; "I could've sworn Sideswipe had this on him...probably got spooked by some Metapod again, sheesh.... Anyway, this little gem is a Razor Claw; any Pokemon that holds it is gonna be landing critical hits more often, and for offensive-attackers, this can really add up! Any attack that has an increased chance to crit will do so even more often than usual, and Pokemon with the 'Sniper' ability, such as Drapion or Kingdra, will turn into monsters on the battle-field, and I don't think I need to mention how Focus Energy would boost this even FURTHER! He starts to place the item back in his bag, then thinks better of it, attaching a note to it; "Kaze! Run this back to the Pokemon Center and see that it gets placed back in the PC with Sideswipe, eh?" The Staraptor fairly explodes out of Makoto's foilage, and, catching the Razor Claw out of the air, is on it's way almost before anyone can even react! Mr. No-name laughs softly, shaking his head; "...showoff...."

Smiling as he pulls out a slightly withered-looking root, the Fisherman pauses for a moment, then speaks again; "This one's one of my personal favorites...a Big Root!"
At the mention of the item, Makoto looks over just as another stray Magikarp flies by it's head, escaping almost certain lunch-doom, and yawns, causing the Fisherman to laugh; "No, not today, big guy, just another demonstration! ...but anyway, this item allows a Pokemon that uses any hp-stealing or hp-regen move to get more hp back from it...so moves like Drain Punch, Leech Seed, and even Aqua Ring are going to be returning more to you on each use! Doesn't work with moves that recover hp in one shot without damaging your opponent, like Recover or Morning Sun, though."
Placing the item back in the case, he goes on, "If you really wanna be hauling in the hp with a grass-type, try having it hold that Big Root, then Ingrain itself, -and- use Leech Seed; if you can keep 'em in the battle long enough to set that up, you'll likely be regaining more than you lose!"
