Hop... Hop... Hop...

A small green frog made it's way down a thin dirt path, unaware that it was being watched by the winged foul behind it. Alistair was walking hunched, his head low and wings closed, close to his sides. His clear, Ice blue eyes narrowed as the frog let out a sudden croak.
His mother had left him to do whatever he pleased, knowing that her foal would stay relatively close and keep himself out of danger. At midday he had found himself near a short stream with the intent to try out swimming. Alistair hadn't make it far into the water before becoming spooked. Having given up he settled for sitting at the bank watching everything around him. That was when he had spotted the small amphibian and had curiously followed it up until this point.
Ribbit
Keeping his eyes focused on his target, Alistair didn't notice as the frog made it's way off of the path and into the grass.
Alistair's short black tail flicked back and forth, his pace picking up so his hoof falls were only a few feet away from the frog.
"Rah!" The foal suddenly leaped forward, his hooves landing in the grassy area where the frog had been just a second before. "Wha-" Alistair said, looking around for his 'prey'. His brows scrunched together and he started nosing the grass around for the creature.

((My posts won't usually be this long just so you know.))

User Image Chandra wiggled her little wings as she looked around at the herd, her parents where distracted together planting more flowers while her siblings literally ran circles around their grandfather. Everyone seemed distracted by their own lives, by the wonder and excitment that came with every single day. Yet here Chandra stood, tail wiggling in the wind as her eyes danced and watched the clouds passed by.

She loved the pretty shapes as they danced and swirled, and would often spend hours with her siblings trying to find images and animals out of them. Her faviourite had been the dragon as it roared and wiggled, but the rabbit hopping was also fun to watch. But right now the clouds seemed to simply be moving, moving away from the herd and her family -but where did clouds go? Did they simply move around the world in an attempt to share their wonderous shaped with everyone?

Curious as always Chandra paused from her cloud watching to check that no one was looking her way so that she could chase after the clouds. When the coast was clear she looked up at the sky again and set off running at full pelt away from the herd, away from her family.

Where did the clouds go? That thought ran over and over in her mind, the little as she ran, the wings on her head wiggling with excitment.

But then she had to stop, no longer being able to see the clouds due the thick canopy of teh forest. Is that what happened? The trees ate the clouds? Wait until she told her siblings! Wait until she told her Daddy that the forest was mean and not nice like he claimed. She pouted a little and looked around, she could hear water and after all the running felt thirsty. She wouldn't be gone long -right? Looking back in the direction that the herd was she contemplated going back, but from here she couldn't even see them and perhaps her thirst would make her unable to get back? Now determined on her new goal she set off into the forest to look for the stream that she could hear.

It didn't take long, and the moment she saw it she leaped into the air, her wings fluttering to help her glide just above the ground before she landed just beside the bed. Instantly she plowed her head into the water to feel the cooling senstaion trickle over her, it was so nice, she opened her mouth allowing it to flow in before she brought her head up and swallowed. That was good water. Tail wiggling with happiness she looked around once more, and that was when she saw something even more curious than clouds being eaten by the forest or the delightful sensation of water on her pelt.... someone like her! A little winged foal. Forgetting her intention to return home she trotted happily over to him and chirped in her sweet voice. "Hello! My name is Chandra." She beamed, her white teeth shining due to the darkness of her pelt.

Not hearing the filly's approach, Alistair almost jumped when she introduced herself to him. Turning quickly to face the new presents in the unfamiliar field that he now found himself in, Alistair took in the other's appearance.
Her coat had been the first thing to catch his eye. Oh how his mother would have loved this filly's coat. It was that of a night sky, filled with stars that almost seemed to twinkle at him as she moved.
Next, his silvery blue eyes turned to her large wings. He was happy to find that they were just like his! He had never met another one of his kinda outside of his mother and brother. Though, as Alistair's eyes raised to the horn right in the middle of her forehead, a small wave of confusion hit him. How could she be a Uni and a Angeni at the same time? Shaking his head of the thought, though keeping it in the back of his mind so that he could ask his mother about it later, Alistair's eyes moved on yet again, this time to her hair.
Her short hair was a light minty green color, though as the shadow of a single cloud in the sky passed over them, her hair took on a bluish color. 'How strange' Alistair commented to himself, before continuing his observation.
The next thing that he noticed made his whole body pause. He sucked in his breath sharply and his eyes widened a tad.
The Soquili that stood before him... was a girl!
What did mother tell him? If he was ever in the presents of a lady, he must act polite. Surely his gawking at her for the past few minutes mustn't have given the impression that he was even remotely close to being the gentleman that his mother would have hoped him to be.

Coughing quietly, Alistair smiled shyly in response. "Sorry," he first mumbled, the voice in his head telling him that it would be the right thing to do after staring at the girl for so long. "My name is Alistair, It's a pleasure to meet you Chandra,"

Taken aback by his obvious observations of her, Chandra found herself feeling suddenly self conscious, she had never really been around many boys bar her brother -and that didn't count. A soft blush covered her cheeks and she found herself wiggling her rump in an effort to keep herself calm. To those who could not read her thoughts it would simply look like she was being her excitable self as always, wiggling to some unheard tune.

And then he spoke, firstly with an apology that took her by suprise. She shook her head instinctively before blurting out "You don't need to be silly" before he had even managed to get the rest of his sentence out. She noted the tone in which he spoke, it was more of a mumble than the confidence she had expected. It was in that moment she found herself taking in his appearance, his pelt was a dark blend of colours that strangely resembled the clouds on a dark night, his hair was also dark and all together she felt that it would be near impossible to spot in him in the dark... curious. Perhaps she would test that theory one day? He would be the perfect partner to play hide and seek with at night. Then he spoke again snapping her train of thought and switching it instantly to his name, "Ali-stair" She spoke it slowly, feeling it as it rolled effortlessly off her tongue. She liked it. Giggling a little she wiggled her rump again, this time from excitement, before speaking again. "Nice to meet you too.... do you want to play??"

Alistair's head tilted to the side slightly when he took in what she had said about him being silly. He was taught to have manners, so shouldn't he use them? Or maybe she was raised some other way? "Oh-" Alistair said, looking away from her for a moment.

His ears perked up when he heard the soft ring of her voice sound out his name. It sounded... pleasant coming from her, he decided.
Alistair's eyes lit up and his head raised when she asked him if he'd play with her.
"I'd really like that," Alistair said, a genuine smile lighting up his face. "Just... Wait a second, please" Swaying slightly, he turned around and started searching the ground again for the frog. He had an idea. But aren't girls supposed to be afraid of slimy green creatures? Glancing back up at Chandra, Alistair paused in his search. "Do you like frogs?" He asked curiously, taking a few steps closer to her. "And if so, have you ever heard of the story 'The Princess and the Frog?'" Alistair's mother had told her colts many stories when they were younger, even when they were still in their baskets! She told them of princesses and knights, Heroes and Villians. Sometimes, if they were misbehaving, she would tell them about Kalona's and Skinwalkers.
The thought sent a shiver down Alistair's spine. To think that there were actually creatures like those out there.
Isabliss had told them once of their father. He was a King of sorts. While their mother reigned over Isomnia, their father reigned over Hearts. It made him royalty or something, right? And if Chandra had wings exactly like his own, that had to make her a princess, right?

At his little 'oh' she cocked her head softly but shrugged it off. She didn't believe he had done anything that warrented an apology but if he wanted to do such then she would accept that. Her father and mother had brought her up to have manners too, although she had to admit that out of their presence they often 'lacked'.

"Ok." She chirped as he asked her to wait, maybe it was a boy thing? If this had been Mal she would have been very cautious since his 'please waits' often resulted in her being covered in mud and scared out of her wits. Granted Io was the only one who never really laughed at her -she loved her sister for that. "Frogs?" She cocked her head to the side curiously before wiggling forward and swaying softly and touched him ever so softly as she looked for the frog he had mentioned. She was so consumed with the idea of a frog that she hadn't really noticed at first, then when she had she stopped, looked up at him with a soft blush upon her cheeks and spoke, "Sorry." Her father had always told her that it was appropriate to lower your head to show that you meant no harm when you made mistakes and so she did that before trying to change the subject. "I like frogs... we have a lot of them around the lake where my herd lives." She smiled at him, her white teething shining through her black sparkly pelt. Then thinking of the evil tricks her brother played on her she added, "Just don't throw them at me.... Mal does that, its not fun." She frowned a little before considering the story he mentioned. "I..." she paused to think, looking up at the sky as if it would lay some light on the situation. "...I think I have heard of it, but my Daddy tends to tell me my faviourite one every night. The Ugly Duckling." Yeah it wasn't traditionally a faviourite to most foals but to her it reminded her of herself, she only hoped that one day she would become a beautiful swan.

"I like stories about princess and knights though." She smiled hoping that would make up for her lack of knowlegde. She often played stories of great adventures between knights and princesses. Sometimes she would play the part of the princess other times she was merely an explorer or a knight. Her sister Io always played the part of royality. But to her Father Chandra knew she was his little princess.

She wiggled her wings happily as she watched him.

"Yes, Frogs." Alistair confirmed with a boyish smile. At the feel of her touching him, Alistair jumped almost unnoticably. He wasn't used to be touched, only by his mother when she was grooming him, or his brother when they'd play, but never by a girl. Pushing the tiny feeling of uncomfort to the back of his mind, Alistair tried sucessfully to relax. When she had snapped herself out of her thoughts and realised exactly how close she was standing to him, she moved back. His smile fell for a second before lifting again at her apollogy. "That's alright," he replied. If you were going to play and get to know someone, some bodily contact was necessary.
Listening to her as she continued talking, Alistair picked up on a certain thing that she said. She lives in a herd?
Alistair had never seen a herd before, none the less met anyone who was apart of one. The only other Soquili that he had met had been loners, traveling and living off of the land by themselves. His family was small, his mother having traveled alone before and throughout her pregnancy. He knew tha once he and his brother grew older that she would move on. Alistair hadn't ever really thought of what he would do when that time came.
Alistair scouled when she mentioned somebody -Mal-, throwing frogs at her. Why would a boy do that? "I would never," Alistair said, a hint of nobility in his voice. He couldn;t dream of himself being so mean to a girl.
Seeing Chandra's frown as she paused to think, Alistair nudged her nose lightly as to comfort her. Just because he wasn't used to touch, didn't mean that she wouldn't take comfort in it. He wanted to see her smile again.

His tail flicked happily when she mentioned that she had heard it before. He didn't know of any other Princess stories that had included frogs in them, so the one that she had heard must have been it! Though, Alistair paused in his thoughts, when she told her that her favorite story was The Ugly Duckling. Why would she choose that one to be her favorite? Did she relate herself to the main character in that story?
Why would she? Weren't all fillys made to believe that they were adorable since the day that they emerged from their baskets? Chandra was cute, Alistair had to admit to himself. Not that he would ever say it out loud, of course. He was polite, but the younge boyish part of him wouldn't ever tell a girl something like that.
When Alistair looked back at her, he noticed that a smile was on her face again. Alistair felt his cheeks warm. How could she think that she was ugly?
Clearing his throat Alistair finally responded to her, "So then you know that when a Princess kisses the frog it turns into a Prince. The frog that I was chasing before I met you was the one, I think" It was the first frog Alistair had ever seen, by himself. Though she had said that many of them had lived in a pond near her, so maybe they weren't as uncommon as he had thought? It was still worth a try...
Flexing his wings, Alistair turned his attention yet again back to the grass. He just had to find the frog again.

As he told her that he would he never throw frogs at her and then touched her softly she strangely found comfort in it. No one outside of her family really touched her, but that said she hadn't met anyone outside of her family to play with. She offered him a little smile at his touch before speaking again, "Well thats little brothers for you...." despite the fact that Chandra and Mal where actually the same age she always refered to him as her little brother, probably because she liked to tease him by fluttering over his back and from above him he really did look smaller. She noted a tone in his voice that reminded her of her Father, it was a tone that demanded respect, it was the very tone she hoped to one day achieve.

As he turned his attention to find the frog she lowered her head to the ground, which in turn made her rump stick up in the air, as she scowled at the mud and the lake trying to find the frog. Closing her eyes for a moment she tried to focus on the noises that frogs always made.

Then she heard it.... ripbet, ripbet, ripbet.... "This way!" She called to her new friend excitely, her little tail flapping from side to side with her joy. "I can hear it from over there..." she indicated with a nod of her head before skipping forward and using her little wings to flutter over the small river.

Once again trying to listen for it she whispered, "Can you see it yet?"

"Oh?" Alistair followed Chandra over to the spot where she had heard the frog. He watched as she used her wings to bring her over to the spot. How does she do that? Alistair wondered to himself. Isabliss didn't show much interest in teaching her son's how to fly, they were smart enough, they'd figure it out on their own.
Flapping his wings only caused the grass around him to sway, instead of giving him his desired effect. Obviously, he was doing something wrong. At this point, he'd never learn how to fly.
Sighing sadly, Alistair came to Chandra's side and closed his eyes.
There! He could hear the deep croaking noises that frogs make. Opening his eyes he looked in the exact direction that the noises came from. Laughing, Alistair nudged Chandra's nose, gesturing over to where a cubby looking frog sat upon a shiny rock near to the shore. "Found it," Alistair moved over to the frog slowly, as not to scare it from it's place.
Turning his head back to look at Chandra, he smiled. "Do you want to meet your Prince Charming?"

She let out a very girly squeal of joy as their teamwork unveiled the small creature, and for a moment she eyed it up. Unlike the frogs around her home this one had a dark line down its back that seemed to fade and dance into the lighter colour and she had to admit that it was very pretty. Perhap this little frog was a prince after all, but what if it turned out her Dad was wrong and she wasn't a little princess? Surely Alistair would also be disappointed.

Then the strangest thought occured to her, "but...." she hesitated as she allowed the question to float in her mind before continuing, "....how do I know if I kissed him right?" She had never kissed a boy or a prince before outside of the teasing kisses on her brothers cheeks or her fathers good night kisses. But surely they didn't count? Of course she had seen her parents together, always so passionate and in love yet she had never been that way with anyone- probably because she was far too young to be thinking such things.

Taking a small breath and moving slowly towards the little creature known as a frog she lowered her head slowly and cautiously in an effort to not to make it hop off on them before she pursed her lips and softly placed a kiss upon its head.

Then she waited.

And waited.

...but nothing happened!?! What did that mean? Was she not a princess after all, or was this frog just like any other frog? Or had she kissed him wrong? Disappoint she pouted and turned to look into Alistairs shimmering silver eyes before stating, "It didn't work...."

Alistair laughed, at the squeal that Chandra let out. It seemed like a very 'girly' thing to do. Looking closer at the frog, Alistair confirmed that it was indeed a prince. Encouraging Chandra, Alistair just nodded at her question. Weren't all girls supposed to know how to kiss? Mother give us a kiss before bed, but that's a mommy kiss, not one from the stories.

"Maybe you didn't do it the right way." Alistair motioned with his head to the frog who still sat upon the rock. Thinking about what he was about to say, he felt a warm, tingling sensation make its way up to his face. "Your supposed to kiss it on it's lips," As an example, he bent down over the frog, being just as careful as Chandra had, and puckered his lips to blow the frog a kiss. "Like that!" Alistair smiled, lifting his head back up. The thought that Chandra wasn't a princess didn't even cross his mind.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 7:08 am

"Em...." she chirped as she watched him before giggling, "maybe they aren't magical frogs? Or maybe they need other conditions... like a fullmoon or something?" Either way she looked for another frog and happily skipped towards it, splashing more mud onto her pelt in the process. "Maybe this one...?" She looked at him giggling and smiling before turning to the frog. Her concentration so intent it would probably have burnt a whole straight through the creature if she had heat vision or something. In her mind she thought the same thing over and over again -please work, please work- and then she lowered herself slow and blew it a kiss in the same fashion Alistair had.

Again nothing happened.

A little dishearted Chandra flopped very unlady like onto her bottom and looked at the all frogs, a small tear starting to well up in her eye. It didn't work.... why didn't it work? Maybe she wasn't a princess afterall? Maybe she was only a princess to her Daddy and not to these frogs or something? Either way she didn't like it.
