Unbeknownst to the boys that had carried it here and to the slumbering girl whose room it lay in, it had earlier been corrupted by Negaverse energy.
And that it was an innocent-looking bouquet of flowers, sitting prettily in a vase on the side table. The cluster of white and pink roses was now starting to stir, finally emerging to show it's true self while its intending victim slept, and was not up and chattering away desperately to anyone that came in. It was now eerily quiet, and a few of the roses reached out, its stems elongating and glowing darkly, hovering right above the blond head.
Unfortunately it had not estimated its move and the tip in weight caused the vase to wibble and crash to the ground. The girl awoke, stared, but did not scream, clasping her hand over her mouth in shock. Whatever reason it was that she did not do this to seek any help was a mystery to the youma, but now that its presence was revealed, it drew upon the dark energy residing within itself to expand and the roses were now the size of a huge cabbage, its thorns long and menacing.
Eve had been scrambling under her pillow to look for something and when she found it, a grin spread on her face. Holding her henshin pen, she stared at the youma, then at her leg in the cast.
Well, this was a nice predicament to be in. How would she transform with a cast hindering her? At this thought, a rose head lunged towards her and she grabbed up a pillow to bat it away. "Stay away from me, youma." She hissed. Oh dear, oh dear, what was she to do now?

Luckily, at that very moment there was another in the hospital who owned a pen very like the one Eve was holding, and ironically enough she was walking straight towards the room. Rea Marshall had been visiting her roommate in the hospital as often as she could, bringing with her whatever little things she could find that might cheer up her bed-ridden friend. Time after classes was spent one of two ways, now a days -- with Eve, or patrolling with another member of their senshi team. Even homework took to the backburner, projects and essays waiting til the last minute.
This afternoon she had spent a few extra minutes at an ice cream stand, buying a few cups of ice cream to bring with her before stepping through the sliding glass doors of the hospital, her shoes squeaking a little as she weaved through the white-tiled hallways she had memorized ages ago. At the sound of the crash, Rea sprinting the last few feet down the hallway, stopping abruptly in the doorway when she noticed the youma.
s**t, even the hospital wasn't safe!
Her hand was on her pen before she had even really registered what was happening, shutting the door behind her and raising it high, calling out that oh-so-familiar verse and letting the surreal transformation take over. Grabbing one of the vases nearby, she dumped its contents unceremoniously on the floor, drawing it back before crashing it hard into one of the roses, petals flying.
"Get the hell away from her!"

"Hi, Sailor Pegasus." Eve squeaked out as thorns tore through her pillow and she did her best to scramble away from it. This was a pretty difficult thing to do, for there was the cast. The cast was a hindrance, to being able to skip around, to be free from the hospital, and now to fight. Her henshin pen was tightly gripped in a hand, but she was reluctant to do with Rea had done.
She couldn't even imagine how henshin magic could work on the cast anyway. Would it still try to put her in those green strappy heels? Better safe than sorry.
Luckily, the rose youma had decided that the senshi that just barged in was a much better target and focused its attention on the teal-skirted senshi instead. "It has roots." Eve managed to say, chancing a glance downwards. Why did it even have roots anyway? It was supposed to be a bouquet... Negaverse magic worked in strange ways, apparently. "I think if you destroy the roots; it'll be okay? Eep!" A rose had lashed out towards her and she ducked, using the other pillow (hospitals had a knack of giving you two pillows) to block any thorns threatening to scrape her. She was already recovering from her injuries, and didn't need any more, thank you very much!

Pegasus was relieved when the youma decided to turn its attention towards her instead of the injured Eve, wincing a little as she felt the thorns graze her body. The youma was fast and light, and had many different branches to deal with at once -- something she herself did not have the luxury of being able to do. Lunging out of the way as it lashed out again, she dashed over to where Eve was, covering her shoulders with one arm and helping her to get across the room, letting her go when they had reached the furthest possible corner from the monster.
"Stay here," she replied to the advice, locking eyes, teal to violet-blue and giving a sharp nod that she understood what she had said, turning back to get into the fray.
How could this have happened? She had thought the hospital would have been safe, safer than being out on the street patrolling. And yet there it was, this monster, a clear puppet of that damn Negaverse! Did an agent sneak in, right under their nose and plant it? Rea's frown deepened in her expression, her eyes burning with a cold intensity. Elzo and Marlo had brought the flowers. Elzo was in love with Linarite, she could have easily planted it. Then again, she knew nothing about Marlo -- could he be a lieutenant? Would he do that to his prom-date?
Gritting her teeth, Pegasus jumped back a bit as she felt thorns pierce her arm, pinpricks of blood springing up where the tiny holes were in her flesh.
"Dream Kinesis!"

Luckily enough, the attack hit exactly where Eve had pointed out, and the youma gave a gurgling wail after crumbling into dust. The blonde wrinkled her nose from where she was and grimaced. While it was good that the youma had been rather easy to take out, the fact still remained that there were problems it left behind to deal with. "The nurses will probably think it's some baby with a toothache." She exhaled a relieved sigh, attempting to hobble back to the bed for a seat.
"Then again, am I supposed to say some distant relative died and wished to have his or her ashes sprinkled on the floor wherever I was?" She queried, grimacing once again. "Youma dust is so icky."

Rea gave a sigh of relief, watching the flower monster crumble before relaxing, and only after she had given the room a thorough look over, to make sure there were no more monsters lingering about. She did not want anything else to get the slip on them, and she'd make damn sure it didn't happen again. She was going to kick Marlo and Elzo until there was nothing left of them, she swore it.
Henshining down after one last glance around the room, Rea immediately bent to Eve's side, helping her up and to her bed, all the while making sure she was ok. "I'll get a broom in a few minutes. I spilled some dirt from one of the plants, if they ask," She murmured, sounding like the dirt was the least of their worries, "Are you ok?"

"I'll be fine." Eve patted Rea's hand reassuringly, giving her a somewhat shaky smile. At least she had woken up when she had, right? At least the youma hadn't been able to kill her or take her starseed or anything. For a moment, she eyed the rest of the flowers rather suspiciously, wondering if any one of them were youma in hiding. It was aggravating that the Negaverse would stoop to this kind of low! A certain bluenette flashed through her mind, and Eve shook her head to rid herself of that thought. He wouldn't do that. Not even if he was in love with her... right?
"This is getting quite ridiculous." She muttered. "Youma everywhere. You wonder how the new senshi deal with this." It wasn't easy when guardian cats just leaped in to give you a pen and tell you to transform, then disappear when you didn't know what to do with this new life.
