Ginkgo shifted himself warily, ears and eyes alert as always. So many things were happening so quickly. Even now, Bracken was busying himself by gathering reports from the Officers that had gone on that particularly nasty raid.
What would they tell him? That all the officers had been grouped together, instead of dispersed? That Cocklebur had been scarce? That so many had been lost? Well. He would just deny it. It was Bracken's fault entirely. It truly was! He had convinced himself of that with every fiber of his being, It was what he had to do for things to go smoothly.
His sharp eyes slipped over the rabbits that had gathered to welcome the raiders home. Many had lost friends, mates, family... But it was for the greater good and flay-rah was to be shared all around.
After a few moments, his eyes fell on a particular rabbit. This one... He might be easy enough.

Pale green eyes watched, their owner silent and still, as the rest of the warren came forward, greeting the returning officers. Some mourned a loss; others rejoiced for the survival of their own. He did neither. He knew none the way others did; no friends, brothers, father among them. He was his own self, really, and it was clear as he stood at the back of the group, the dust-colored nose that had given him his name twitching at the scent of flay-rah.
Oh, how he wanted to be up there, being one of the great and powerful officers. Ever since he was a kitten he had aspired to be one of their rank. Now, as a young adult, he knew his dream could be realized eventually. But...it was hard. Dustnose wasn't a particularly social rabbit, in contrast to some others. He wasn't so apart as to split off and become a hlessi--oh, Frith, no--but he was never the kind to gather and gossip among the others, or entertain the youngsters with stories. He was mentally more mature than his body let on, he liked to think. He wasn't into the gossip...unless, of course, it was vital to the warren.
It was then that he saw one of the officers. Ginkgo, was it? He really wasn't sure; he wasn't the kind to mingle with the officers often. The lighter, chestnut-y brown rabbit was looking at him, orange-yellow eyes locking onto his own green ones. He raised his head. What did this officer want with him? Why the interest? He suddenly felt a little flower of hope...maybe, just maybe...

Green eyes met his own and he was aware that the rabbit he had been observing had noticed his observer. A small smile slid across his features and he moved towards the other rabbit steadily, weaving through the crowd of rabbits that had gathered for the return of the ones who had gone out to the farm for a raid.
He was glad no predators were about, as snatching a quick meal might not be too difficult with so many above the surface at once, not that he let his mind dwell on that single thought for too long.
He hailed Dustnose with a nod, not too familiar with the young buck. But, if he guessed correctly, he was like any young buck and wished for attention from the Owsla. He hoped his assumptions were correct.
"Hello, lad, come to welcome the Owsla home? Or merely came to nibble some flay?"

A little hint of excitement rose in Dust as the Owsla member saw him and started over. He even nodded! An Owsla, nodding at him. It was amazing. Little did the member know, he was indeed perfectly correct in assuming that Dustnose wanted attention. His two-toned tail twitched a little and his eyes shone as Ginkgo spoke. He wouldn't have taken "lad" very lightly had it been another rabbit, but from an Owsla? He could live. "Both, sir," he replied simply with a respectful nod. "I mean...who wouldn't want to welcome home the adventurers that risk their lives for us?"
