Aranea drifted through the gloomy undergrowth of the forest, wings folded, and only the white of her mane and markings giving her away as she slid around tree trunk, under branch and over loam. She was following her nose and ears; having come across this deep section of the forest, she had caught the scent of deer and was now hunting them.
She was on the alert the entire time, this was new territory for her, and she was unaware if there were any other predators like her..not that she'd seen any so far, for what she was even she didn't know. Such were her disadvantages, having grown without family or even the basics, mother or father. What she did know was that she was hungry, and that this was what she did well, though she was always learning.
The mare stopped, her long tongue running over her mouth as she scented the air, bending and nosing amongst the leaves. She found deer droppings, fairly fresh, and so knew that they'd passed by here in at least the last day or so. She carried on moving, shying away from the rare ray of sunlight that managed the pierce the tree canopy as it caused light spots to dance in front of her eyes and that was never good.

Itzal ventured out near the place he dwell and roamed around leisurely looking for something to eat. His dark colored made him nearly invisible:giving him an advantage over those he hunted down. He pulled his wings tight to his body and drug his tail behind, which caused a rather strange trail. The stallion's nostrils flared as he caught sent of a deer and something unfamiliar.
He headed in the direction of the two scents, so he could hunt the deer and see whatever the other thing was. He was becoming rather hungry and the deer was a perfect little snack, beside that he was a bit curious about what the other thing happened to be. The stallion has lived in this forest since he was but a foal. Before that he had stayed a bit with others of his kind but was too young when he was lost in the forest to recall them. Everything around had always been there for him to torment, torture or eat. This knew scent caused his curiosity to hum.
The stallion's movement quickened as he headed towards the two things he wanted. He stopped as he spotted rather strange marking of white and narrowed his eyes as he tried to get a better look. Then opened them up wide again and snarled before grumbling out "Well you are not a deer.. nor are you are rabbit, so what your you doing near my home?"

Where the hell had he come from? Aranea mentally chastised herself from allowing him surprise her, though she realised that she would have been hard pressed to see him..she should have scented his presence though! Her tail swished in agitation, and she showed her teeth briefly, though stood her ground.
'You own the whole forest then do you?' she retorted, feeling herself again after the initial alarm. He was bigger than she, and it was difficult to make him out properly in the forest gloom but he seemed to look much as she did. Which piqued her curiosity to no end.
'Clever. I am indeed not a rabbit, nor a deer. Though I'm hunting the latter.' she said with a smirk.
'What are you?'

Hmmm a tail and wings that are the same as mine, her horns are a bit different, but still. the stallion mentally noticed as he paid half attention to watch the strange mare was saying. his wings flapped out as he took not of hers and his tail slashed.
"Of course, I am indeed clever, and no a do not own the forest " Itzal replied then flicked his tail around in a large circle "However, this part of it is mine, has been since I was only as tall has that thing" he added as in pointed to a large bolder. "This place is full of deer and rabbit for me to torture and eat as a please. I haven't seen anything other then those for well almost as long as I have been here"
He tilted his head up and sniffed at her again, then moved so he was a few paces away "As to what I am, that is a bit of a mystery, but it seems that you are similar to I." he purred out before moving slowly around her. "I don't suppose you know what you are, do you?" he asked in a voice dripping with sarcasm.

'Do I have to? I know what I can do, what drives me. I know my strengths and my skills.' Aranea stared hard at him and then looked away again.
'We're similar I suppose, and I guess there is a name for us, but it's only that; a name. When I know it, I'll still be me.' she sniffed the air casually, in case there were others around and he was playing her false.
'I am surprised, hunters go where the prey is after all.' she said, in a slightly tart tone of voice. Of course if there kind was rare, maybe there was a reason he hadn't anyone other than that which he killed. But obviously she had no idea how many there was like herself..or him.
