ALovedTwilight (6:06:31 PM): All of the happenings lately had taken their tole on Sae, her sleeping had become either so light she could barely shut her eyes or so deep that she couldn't even wake herself up with her screams. It wasn't that she was close to Faye, in fact the sisters never really talked... but she was her baby sister you know? She had a responsibility to protect her siblings... what if it had been Aliel? Or someone else she held as close as she could. Her mother was constantly in duress, and it was just horrible being there, dealing with it all.
She was having one of those nights where she fell in such a deep sleep little woke her up, Her dream had her whimpering in her sleep (she would never show such weakness had she been awake). Something to do with her worst fear (though you wouldn't expect it). It was a recent thing, brought forward by the past events. The silver female rolled to her side, nearly crying in her sleep. She needed to protect them... to keep them safe, but she was always too late.
LykosEcho (6:25:30 PM): Roulette could tell she was bothered. Hell, he'd have been bothered too, had it been his kid sister. He had one, but he didn't know her. Hadn't seen her since they were kittens and two different families pulled them apart. He shrugged his shoulder as he attempted to get comfortable under a tree, one knee up and one down, arms laced behind his head. It didn't matter. What mattered was that Faye, Sae's sister, was missing. Possibly hurt, or worse. It was taking it's tole on the silver-haired girl, he could tell. He frowned when she whimpered, mewling softly in her sleep and it tore at his heart. Surprise, surprise! He did have one. He rolled over, resting a hand on her shoulder and jostling her softly, concern immanent on his face. Dark hair fell into his eyes, giving him a bedraggled look. "Sae?"
ALovedTwilight (6:34:44 PM): The female winced at the touches, tucking herself into a tighter ball, though closer to him. Warmth, she was unused to that. As a kit she had always pulled away from everyone, as a teenager she was very much the same, but the warmth was welcome if it did not mean pain. Her hand lightly brushed against his in her movements, but she was so out of it she really didn't know.
Something bitter had formed in her heart, when Faye was taken, when she realized how weak she really was and how stupid she had been. When she opened her eyes and realized that life wasn't about "anything you can do I can do better". No she had grown up and got over her self appreciation but resented the hell out of it. Almost with a blink of a eye her sleep pattern had changed, she was no longer so deep in her head she didn't know which way was up, rather so lightly sleeping she vaguely heard her name. Her hand automatically snaked to one of her various hiding places on her person. Her eye peeked open through her eyelashes, showing a blurry form.
"what the hell do you want?"
LykosEcho (6:42:48 PM): The words didn't sting -- not very hard. He pulled back, looking away but he didn't move away from her. He merely curled his knees up to his chin and wrapped both arms around them, studying the darkened sky. "Mm... You were having a nightmare," he said softly. "I figured maybe you'd want to escape from it. Sorry." He himself didn't know why he tried with her, sometimes. They'd been together for a few days now. She didn't let him in, but that was fine. He didn't let her in either. Even if their first meeting had been...oh, beautiful, wonderful, deadly... He smiled a little at the memory, but said nothing else. "Want to go for a walk? It's a nice night..."
ALovedTwilight (6:50:48 PM): Sae opened her eyes and rubbed them, sighing softly. "sorry... I don't fare well being woken up by anything but nature." She was actually sorry for snapping at him -as amazing as that may sound- He was the only one she had at this point in time. Silently she combed through her hair with her claws, thinking about his proposition. More... walking. It was almost enough to make her wince and chop off her feet, but the physical exertion may actually put her in a dreamless sleep for once, and even that if was well worth it.
"sure." she managed, giving him a weak smile and standing up. Their first meeting had been something extraordinary, but when it came down to it, Saeriel was pretty damn boring, or at least she thought so. She laughed suddenly, the change of mood abrupt, but she found her thoughts quite funny, even if they were bitter and sardonic.
"I want to go dancing. My feet hurt like hell but I want to go dancing." It was funny -or at least it was to her- that despite all of this she wanted to be normal, she wanted to exert herself like she used to. Hell maybe even get a few drinks while she was at it. Sae got a refreshing sparkle back into her eyes with the thought, to just... give in to impulses, like she was always doing as her alter ego -Gen-.
"what do you say?"
LykosEcho (6:55:19 PM): Rou gave a chuckle, deep in his throat, so low it was almost a purr. "I don't hold it against ya, don't worry," he said, giving her a wink before settling back, stretching out both knees this time. He didn't watch her -- he assumed she wouldn't like that, so he didn't do it. Instead he watched the trees sway. But from his peripherals he saw her run her hands through her hair. It made his lips twitch into a smile. Girls...
As she stood, he hopped to his feet, his own giving a throb of indignance, but he ignored it. He would walk until he was lame, if he had to. This was the life of a street cat on a mission, not some prissy prep housecat. For once in his life, he was proud of what he was doing. Wasn't it strange, that he was doing it for someone else.
An eyebrow quirked up. "Dancing? Sounds like a riot. What kind? Ballroom? Rave? Two-step?" He stuffed hands in his pockets. "Though, to warn you. I've never danced before." Not that she meant dancing -with- him. Of course not. "But why not?"
ALovedTwilight (7:44:16 PM): A smile formed on her lips, offering a hand to him, something she didn't do very often even to her siblings. "Whatever dance we want. Lets go." Sae lead the way, turning through various trees that were vaguely familiar -but not- and finding her way to the edge of the plaza. The femme's golden eyes glanced around the area, searching, observing, taking in the scene. "I see a karioke bar, a sushi bar with sake, and a club. Pick your poison." Without realizing it, Sae leaned in sideways towards the male, wanting to keep contact around the bright lights and busy streets. -what was with humans being so active at this time?-
Looking full on at the male she waited for his decision, watching his features form around his thoughts. It was... interesting to say the least. She had never seen a male that wasn't family in some way... just be normal. Her cousin, the devils advocate always hid his thoughts, like her father... and like her. This was nice... just being amid other people and cats, being one in the crowd. -but then she didn't realize how many males watched her out of the corner of their eyes either. Despite being a assassin, a damned good one at that, but she had serious self image issues-
LykosEcho (7:50:43 PM): Roulette was surprised as she offered a hand to him. He took it without a word, following her down the street like a loyal dog; she seemed to know where she was going, who was he to second guess her? And besides, it wasn't as if she got them lost. Soon they were in front of the storefronts, looking at the neon signs from their vantage point on the streets. "Hm. Not the karioke bar. Human singing'll give me a headache," he chuckled. "Let's go to the sushi bar. I've never been to one before." He met her gaze, watching her watching him and he smiled. He liked the fact that she looked at him. Maybe even admired him, deep down in that shielded assassin's heart of hers. He resisted the urge to tell her she was cute, and pulled her along, grinning all the while. "I just hope I don't step on your feet," he purred sheepishly.
ALovedTwilight (8:11:21 PM): Saeriel raised her eyebrow and shook her head "like your quick enough to step on my feet. You may be a damn good thief, but your still slow as a snail to me." She lightly punched his arm with a grin, to ease her words. Who really knew which was better honestly? Sae automatically loosened up the tightness she didn't know she was holding inside her, the moment the air conditioner and artificial light decorated her skin, and the pulse of some unknown music taking away any capability for speech in those few first moments. She seemed to float around people, taking him with her and ended up perched on a stool by the sushi bar, smiling to herself, and only then allowing herself to let go of Rou's hand.
"mmmm forgot how good this place smelled." It was true, Saeriel didn't know how her companion felt but she felt rejuvenated, all of her senses getting a kick start into overdrive. She swayed in her seat, plucking up a piece of raw salmon with a claw and munching on it, waiting for the sake to come.
LykosEcho (8:19:05 PM): He caught that grin and returned it with one of his own, shrugging with both hands palm-up and shaking his head. He knew she'd be a good dancer just by looking at her -- all those curves and the speed of a cheetah? Beautiful. He licked his lips when she turned away, following her. The music pounded in a steady beat, making him tap his foot along to it. When she hopped up on the bar, their hands dropped -- but Roulette was certain he could get her to hold it again...sometime. He hopped up next to her, elbows on the counter, and sniffed the air. He was so hungry, he could nearly faint. His stomach growled and he chuckled. "Delicious," he agreed, soft. But he knew better; only eat what he needed. He didn't need to get full and tired. He wanted to spend every waking hour dancing with her... The idea made him smile. "Been here before, then?" His head tipped to one side.
ALovedTwilight (8:39:17 PM): Sae wouldn't look at him, she felt herself somewhat closing off again, and try as she might to keep herself open, the walls came crashing together. "Once. On a adventure with me mum." Eyeing a glass of sake next to a older woman -obviously slipping off into her own mind- Sae stood, and moved through people, easily taking the glass like she had always had it in her hand. Oh the ode to oblivion in one glass. Sipping quietly the female observed the dancers, shaking her head as humans flitted about on teetering heels and fell out of their shirts. What was the point, really seduction it was a simple thing one did not need to get all fancy for. Once a good amount of Sake was in her body Sae flicked her moonstone necklace, looked at Rou, and shook her head again.
"im dancing." And slid off her stool.
LykosEcho (8:45:56 PM): He knew she'd closed off again when she didn't look at him. He felt a strange stabbing feeling in his heart -- pain, but what for? It wasn't like she liked him or anything. They just had a mission together, then they'd be on their separate ways. That's how it would always be. He pulled his lips into a fake smile, knowing she'd never look at it, and watched the humans dance. Tumbling, fumbling. His ears pulled back, listening to the music beat in his head, listening to the footsteps and footfalls. He saw her drinking, wondering if that would pull her back to him. The woman she'd snagged it from never blinked. Sometimes, it was like cats didn't exist to them.
At her announcement, he nodded, finding his own glass and sipping the sake. At first he drank too fast -- it hit him hard, his head spinning. He paced himself, only sipping now and again, watching her move with almost hungry eyes, but knowing there would forever be a sheet of ice between them. He'd only been lucky with "Gen" -- Sae would make sure he'd be kept at a distance. He didn't know why he knew this, or how, he just did.
ALovedTwilight (8:56:04 PM): She felt bad -again- and had no idea why. Saeriel had always been indifferent to the world, with a window keeping her apart from the rest. Being a part of the world without being -in- it. She sighed, stopping mid motion, hiding behind her hair like she had observed her mother do countless times. Had Valiant felt like this ever? That someone she thought a enemy had become a partner, and then this ache seemed to fill one from head to toe? They were so much the same they were polar opposites, and yet...
Saeriel looked up and over to him, just... watching him, afraid. She was getting close to him, sensitive to his feelings, and the hurts she inflicted upon him -and thus hurting her-
... s**t.
A bit shakily she debated running, but where would she go, where could she show her face without shame of not bringing her baby sister home? Instead she made her way back to him, watching his chin in order to avoid those amazing eyes. s**t.... was a understatement.
LykosEcho (9:03:41 PM): Roulette watched her dance until she stopped, his head tilting curiously, dark hair shielding his eyes from her. She was so cute... He couldn't get over that single fact. -Cute and unavailable, get a hold of yourself, he growled inwardly. He'd be better off picking up some girl at a dance club. Some girl who wanted to be held. Some girl who wanted to be more than friends. But he saw her, hiding behind her hair, and it just tugged at his own heart. Sae... She was an assassin, he a thief. They were opposites... Sure, she was attractive: ******** that, she was beautiful! But unavailable. He tilted his chin up, sipping the drink again. "Not in the mood for dancing anymore?" The question was asked softly, lightly. Sae. Sae. Sae. Damnit it drove him nuts. "Worried about Faye?"
ALovedTwilight (9:23:46 PM): Saeriel shook her head and bit her lip. She wasn't sure how this worked, if it even worked without one of her various masks to hide behind. Only with a little hesitation, and no shaking -she was proud to note- Saeriel lightly pushed his hand away with the drink, placing her own hand on top of it to prevent spillage of the amber liquid. Swallowing hard she climbed up to the stool closest to his and made eye contact.
"d... don't move." A bit shaky now Sae rested her head on his shoulder, tucking the rest of her body in neatly next to him and staying absolutely still, and very tense.
She felt like a coiled spring, how one wrong move, word or breath could make her bolt. Saeriel was a creature of habit -no matter how much she tried to avoid being so- so anything new, scared her, took her out of her comfort zone enough to make her never try again if anything went wrong the first time.
A very delicate situation to be placed in, she was sure... and sorry for it.
LykosEcho (9:33:32 PM):
Roulette looked at her strangely, curious to why she looked so...haunted. Girls acted so wierd sometimes... He was about to shrug it off when the warmth of her hand fell upon his. He set the glass down on the counter, watching her with his ears swiveled forwards. She met his eyes, her liquid gold touching his aqua ones, and spoke. The words surprised him, but he listened, growing still, but still curious. He was even more confused when she lay her head on his shoulder like a lover might, though she kept herself small and still. He didn't speak, didn't move, even when he wanted to rest his free hand on her shoulder. Surely she'd be more comfortable, but he didn't. His own heart could probably be heart pounding rapidly, running like wildfire in his chest. Yet he didn't do anything. Even when he wanted to speak her name, his own voice hoarse and nervous and so...not Roulette. No girl had ever made him feel this way before -- ever. Not even the most seductive of women could make his heart race.
ALovedTwilight (9:40:46 PM): It felt... strange, but not in a bad way. His heart giving her comfort even though it was beating so rapidly hers threatened to beat out of her chest to keep up. What... had gotten over her? The first guy that showed promise she was going to fling herself into his arms? Just like her mother had and got trampled on? No Sae seriously doubted that... but he... Rou, was something different, she couldn't read him. She couldn't see that lust lingering in his eyes -not that it wasn't there it was just ... normal.-
"why...?" was all she could manage, her sentence trailing off, her brain not able to catch up with her mouth, which in itself didnt seem to want to move to even form the word.
why... why was this happening? Why wasn't she able to do anything about it... and Why did it scare her so much? Sae closed her eyes, relaxing a bit more into his grip, still quite afraid, but not as freaked out as she had been. She felt awkward, what a big deal she had made of this... but she needed him to be still, so that she would have the courage to at least try.
LykosEcho (9:51:46 PM): Roulette pondered her question. Why indeed. Why them? An assassin and a thief, thrown together in a strange little jumble, a very misleading and nearly sexual encounter, and now partners looking for a lost kid. What a strange relationship, theirs was. Why was this happening? "I dunno... Maybe..." He took a breath, wondering what was the right sentence to choose, to not scare her off, god he didn't want to scare her off. "Do you believe in Destiny, Sae?" He tilted his head just the slightest. He never had, not before now. Though he assumed it was his destiny to leave those Twolegs behind, just as it was his destiny that Sae had taken his collar from him, that horrible velvet thing.
ALovedTwilight (10:02:40 PM): She stretched out her legs, staring at her soft leather boots then back at him through her eyelashes, still tucked into his side. "with my family... its kind of hard not to. My mother had a fairy tale come true with how she met father, and everyone at camp tells it the same, so I have to assume it really happened that way."That was perhaps the only thing she had really said about herself other then her sisters kidnaping. Before then they had been on a need to know basis, but suddenly she had a change of heart. Mentally she blamed it on the drink, but she knew that wasn't true... she felt she could trust this -liar... thief... con artist- friend?
Sae shifted, stretching out her legs and leaning backwards until her head rested lightly on his lap, her fingers twisting and playing with the tips of her hair, without really thinking she ended up closer to his stomach then his knee where she had been resting, a low purr vibrating her chest.
LykosEcho (10:12:18 PM): The people fanned out around them, paying the two cats no heed. The glass of sake lay untouched on the counter, and Roulette was glad he hadn't drank more than a few sips. This was...crazy, but it was almost bliss. This togetherness... He'd had girls before... But not Sae. His lips twitched in a grin as he listened to her speak, her words surprising him. Telling him a bit more about her. "How did they meet?" he asked, curious to what she considered a fairy tale. He didn't move as she stretched out against him, her head resting against his belly and he grinned again when she began to purr. Without being able to stop it, his own motor rumbled to life, soft but audible against the music.
ALovedTwilight (10:19:52 PM): Saeriel smiled, closing her eyes. "Mom was on a mission, much like how I met you... she was going through such hell at that time, dealing with after effects of some ... accident, handling the break up of a childhood crush... hard stuff. But she submerged herself in this mission, not really caring if she live or died, just go it done with. Well dad came to her camp searching for refreshment, not knowing she was bathing in a stream nearby. His sister wasn't with him for once, she was scouting ahead searching for someone she lost as well. But anyway mom and dad kinda fell in love at first sight, her the gold to his silver and all that... but thats not the fairy tale, the fairy tale is that she told him he couldn't come with her, that if they were meant to be he would show up. Of course at the time she didn't know that we were conceived that night, so when he found her he had quite a shock, and so did his sister. Apparently she was the mate of my mothers best friend -and once lover- They had my older sister Raina." Taking in a deep breath Sae blinked, blushing heavily.
"sorry, got carried away. Family stuff, boring to you I suppose."
LykosEcho (10:26:44 PM): Roulette grinned. What an odd fairy tale... And an odd family. Well at least she -had- a family. He had...what? A few cats in a barn who'd had him. There had been no love there, only lust. And, to be honest with himself, Roulette himself had never been -in love-. He wasn't even sure he believed in "love" until now. Sae... His ears flicked back for a moment. "Intriguing. You're lucky," he murmured softly. "To have a family that loves each other. I had a couple of humans who thought I was the world. Then they had a baby." He couldn't keep the sadness from his tone. If she would tell a story, so would he -- he would offer it to her. "Suddenly I was just in the way. Underfoot. They got busy. No longer was I a cutesy kitten. I decided to save myself the trouble. Keep myself from ending up in a shelter, so I left. Unfortunately, I was still wearing that horrid jingle bell collar." He rolled his eyes and gave her a grin. "Thanks again, by the way. You're my savior." With that, he winked.
ALovedTwilight (5:43:36 PM): Reaching a hand up slowly Saeriel brushed a strand of his hair away from his eyes. "Im sorry, I know what its like to live with humans sadly.. im not quite what I used to be after them." It still took everything Sae had not to freak out when her back was touched, where the cigarette burns still decorated her flesh. It was going to take a lot to make her comfortable, but she hoped Rou would be up for the challenge.
She really cared about him.
Love... maybe, but it was too soon for her. She was denying it. Quietly she closed her eyes breathing in the sent of him and thinking to herself of everything that had happened, everything that would and could.
... she needed someone right? Someone to help keep her sane through it all.
"Please don't leave."
LykosEcho (5:52:17 PM): Rou smiled as her hand touched his face, a true smile that reached from ear to ear. He found himself realizing he was -happy- with her, just like this. He pulled his ears back at her words, however. Had they hurt her? He felt his hackles bristle slightly at the though, though he knew someone as strong as Sae wouldn't tell him about her weaknesses anytime soon.
But that was okay.
He could wait... In fact, he thought that maybe he wanted to. Get to know her better. Maybe even love her, if she let him.
"Where would I go?" he whispered back. "I won't leave unless you want me to."
ALovedTwilight (6:16:27 PM): Saeriel looked him in the eye, searching.... searching for some hint of irony, some hint of lie. Something to hurt her with. Slowly she rose up and leaned forward, watching him as she did so. Briefly, softly, barely a breath of a touch Sae laid her lips on his, the first kiss they -should- have had. It was a innocent kiss.
Just one...
and yet it felt like her head was exploding, to the point just that was almost too much to bear.
A bright blush filled in her cheeks, lighting up her face and making her eyes glow. "Im sorry... I shouldn't have assumed..." She still wasn't sure how he felt about her, yes it was obvious he was attracted, their first meeting had proved that... but...
she wanted them to mean more then lust. More then just attraction, though that was clearly a major factor.
LykosEcho (6:40:00 PM): She met his eye and he smiled, solemn. There was no trace of any sort of joke or lie in his eyes. He didn't want to hurt her. She was so strong yet so fragile, there in his arms. And she was leaning in. His heart raced in his chest as her lips were gentle on his, so unlike "Gen's" kisses, hungry and demanding. Sae's were...beautiful.
"You're fine," he murmured, his voice breathy, as he had to catch his heart. "I...liked it..." It was his turn to blush and he looked away, hoping it would pass and she wouldn't see... He didn't want to be weak. "Alot, actually."
ALovedTwilight (6:45:55 PM): "Umm... well." Sae blushed harder, trying to find something to stare at other then his face, but managed to have a giggle escape her lips, which in turn ended up as full out giggles. Grabbing him by the hand Sae leaped off his lap and tugged him to the dance floor, the easy movements like mist through people coming back into her step as she lead him along. Invisible, they were invisible to all but each other.
Gracefully she darted around him, dancing in easy strides, happy -for once- just to move, and be held close -when he could catch her-
not always being the cat, but also the mouse once in awhile.
LykosEcho (6:52:51 PM): He was grinning from ear to her, chuckling as she broke into giggles. This soft side...it surprised him, but pleased him to no end. So she did like to have fun. Was perhaps the tough-girl-assassin one of her many faces? How many other sides of her would he see? He followed her eagerly off the stool and into the middle of the dance floor. At first he stood there, confused, his mouth an 'o' shape, watching her move. Then he grinned again, sprinting after her, tail flicking back and forth as he caught her hand in his and tugged her to him before setting her free once more. His own body stretched out into a fluid dance, something he was making up as he went along as if she couldn't tell, but at least he wasn't showing off his 'two left feet' routine.
ALovedTwilight (7:05:00 PM): Sae smiled, twisting and turning in and out of his grasp in what seemed like a half dance/half fight sequence and smiled. It was nice... feeling normal for once. She so rarely got to feel that way anymore. When she twirled into him for the final beats of the song, the soft base vibrating the floor under their feet, Saeriel whispered, standing on tiptoe to his ear.
"are you sure your not a damn good actor trying to do dissuade me and make me loose my concentration for your own purposes?"
...
because the funny thing was, if he was... it was working.
LykosEcho (7:10:58 PM): Roulette grinned and chased after her, enjoying the thrum of the power between them and the music beating in the back of his skull. Dark chocolate hair fell into aqua eyes, sweat beading at his hairline as he moved. His footfalls were silent, fluid. As she came back to him, his hands reached for her, tugging her close to him. She stood on tiptoes to breath words into his ear, making him shiver but a grin spread across his face. "I can't deny that I'm not a good actor, but I promise you, baby, this is no act," he replied back just as softly. This was just purely him.
ALovedTwilight (7:31:49 PM): Wrapping her arms around the back of his neck for the next song Saeriel smiled, brightening up her face. "im glad then."
She needed something good in her life, and he had just... managed to show up. Funny how that worked. With a smile Sae twirled out, then back into his arms easily, not focusing on the adventures and hell they would go through soon enough, but on the moment, their happiness.
