User Image He moved with swift, carefully placed paws.

His mind wandered and his pelt, which hid him well in the night, with the exception of the bright green marks, glimmered in the moonlight. He was alone, as he had been since that fateful day when the larger pack had absorbed his sister's.

Oh, how horrid it had been!

And here, the former beta wandered anxiously, searching for a place and a pack to call his own. He missed the company and he was hardly a creature to enjoy being on his own. He was far from a loner and thrived on living with and helping others.

Fortunately, he had managed well for himself over the rather rough winter. He ate well enough and he was still a very large, powerful creature. His toned muscles rippled beneath his dark pelt as he shifted himself along at an even pace.

He did not think he was crossing into another pack's territory. He did not want to impose, nor did he wish to fight or meet his end at the fangs of one of the more vicious packs that he had heard whispers of.

"Lackaday, lackaday." He sighed quietly, ears erect and tail streaming like a banner behind him.

[Sorry it took me so long to post. I wasn't aware you had opened this up yet. xD; Feel free to point out any flaws I may have. This is the first time I'm roleplaying in this setting any any information for improvement would be wonderful.]

Was it possible to feel loneliness when one has spent their entire life time alone?

For the past few nights it had been thoughts such as these that had kept the green furred female awake at night - filling her mind with questions that up until this point she had not bothered to seek answers for. It was strange that one who has spent so many years alone would suddenly start feeling the desire for companionship. It was not like she was completely without 'friends'. The plants that she observed gave her some solace - they were wonderful listeners after all, though completely useless in any other form of conversation.

She was strange like that however - talking to the plants as if they understood her. It was unclear what had caused her to grow such an intense interest in the woods fauna though it was clear for any who spent more then a few moments with Odhra that her 'studies' were her life. It's not like she had much else to occupy herself with when not hunting - though even that was done on rare occasions as the female had discovered fairly early on that berries served as an adequate source of sustenance, though considerably less satisfying then meat. Though when you traveled alone such things were luxuries, especially when you are a lone female.

She had been fortunate so far that her travels had not landed her in a rough or otherwise dangerous position. Though she knew at one point her luck would run out. It was only a matter of time before she was caught. Though she'd continue to live as she will until that point arrives.

Softly shuffling to her feet - or in this case paws, the she-wolf carefully stretched the muscles that had grown stiff during her attempt at sleep. There was no point lying here anymore. Not when sleep was being evasive. Perhaps somewhere in the forest she could find something which had a scent that would lure her too sleep. If she recalled there had been something like that in one of the previous forests she had 'visited'.

It was just as she settled back into a regular posture did she realize that something was approaching - the scent of the wolf flowing on the soft night breeze. She could not honestly recall this particular scent leading her to the conclusion that whoever this was just as foreign to this territory as she was.

It wasn't until he was within several tail lengths of the female that the wind favored him and he caught a whiff of her scent upon it. His ears pricked and his rolling gait slowed to a steady trot. His tail lifted in a more dominant fashion, as he had been accustom to holding rank over the wolves within his former pack. He planned on fighting the good fight and acting as he did until someone proved to be a match for himself.

Yet he was not rude. Never rude. Just assertive.

Her scent was not familiar to him and he took her for being one like himself, a wanderer.

After several moments of holding his position, he called out to her.

"Hello?"

(( I've actually not roleplayed here much, either. We can learn together! xD ))

[I can't help but think this post is seriously lacking. :/ ]

For a moment nothing was said - the female waiting for any sign of hostility. Just because the other wasn't part of the native pack didn't mean that he wasn't out to harm her. It was best to remain on the alert for now lest she find herself serving as this particular males dinner.

She wasn't much in terms of a fighter - preferring to avoid unnecessary conflict by making quick escapes the moment something things seemed to grow in an unfavorable direction. It wasn't that she was a coward. She just knew her limitations. Her skills lie in her mind and speed, not her physical strength.

Judging from the fact that whoever this was had remained in their position it slowly became clear to her that he was expecting her to make the initial approach. It was both risky and advantageous for the she-wolf and she wasn't exactly sure if she wanted to risk it - though after a few seconds of hesitation she decided to at least answer his call.

"Hello."

It was an awkward response. It had been a long time since she had last come in contact with another of her species and even longer still since she had taken the time to speak after all. Shifting her weight from paw to paw she waited for the other to initiate further conversation. She would leave it to the male to decide whether or not further conversation was worth pursuing - though she would not hold it against him if he chose to leave.

The awkward silence between them was enough to discourage him to move on his quest for a pack, yet...

Well, perhaps he did miss company much more than he thought. A companion was a companion was a companion and if she wasn't going to attack, for he assumed she would have by now if she were the aggressive sort, she was at least worth talking to for a few moments.

He could not detect the smell of other wolves, so he thought it safe to assume she was alone.

"I do not scent others near here, so I assume these aren't packlands. Am I correct in my assumption? That you are a wanderer, as am I? Renvyle is my name and I come, a weary traveler of the southern lands." He didn't intend to speak quite so much, but once he opened his maw, the words seemed to tumble out on their own accord.

(( It's fine! ^^ ))

So he had chosen to stay and chat? How interesting. A part of Odhra was thrilled that she would be able to engage in conversation for the first time in what felt like an eternity, yet at the same time there was still that small sense of apprehension and nervousness that she had felt from the beginning. This was still a stranger after all - and clearly one of the male persuasion. Unless he was the runt of his litter she doubted that the other would be unable to kill her if the need or desire arise. She would have to move and speak carefully, lest she offend the other wolf.

"Truthfully, I am not aware whether these are pack lands or open forest, so I cannot answer you with a definite answer. Your next assumption is correct however as I am indeed a wanderer."

Carefully stepping towards the male - careful not to disturb any plants that she had not yet taken the time to examine, she slowly but surely revealed herself to the one she was taking the time to converse with. Her two-toned green fur making it her initial spotting difficult as it served as wonderful camouflage when placed up against the green of the newly sprouted fauna. If it had not been for her eyes - which whilst green in themselves seemed to glow softly in the moonlight. Her tail was kept in a semi-submissive position, not quite tucked between her legs but not held as high as the wolf before her.

She took in the sight of the male, noting the vibrant green markings that matted the otherwise dark coat. He was strong, slightly older then she was, and clearly a wolf who had at some point held a position of authority if the posture was of any indication.

"I am called Odhra and if it is of any consolation to you, you are free to rest here for as long as time and any potential packs may allow you."

She did not have the authority or the information to openly welcome to the forest, but she had attempted the closest she could manage.

"Ah, a Wanderer, too. You look much like one, but the winter seems to have spared you. You look quite healthy." He complimented her as he scented the wind, searching for the smell of others, yet he detected none. Just as she had said, there seemed to be no one else near, so they must have both guessed correctly?

Best to be on his toes, just in case.

"Odhra, a lovely name, and I thank you for the invitation to rest for a while, depending on our surroundings. It's been quite a distance I have covered and I'd be flat out lying if I said I wasn't tired." He chuckled lightly as he settled back on his haunches and wrapped his tail about his paws. He looked, for all the world, a wolf of a good disposition. He was never needlessly aggressive and she struck him as a fairly calm one, as well.

Did she look healthy? It was true that the winter had been a bit harsher then normal and her normal food source had been scarce - though by default most plant based meals were limited during the colder months. She had been fortunate enough to come across a rabbit den that she stalked, making off with a good portion of the young. It was a cruel thing to do, but it had been required for her survival.

"Thank you. You as well appear to have taken the winter in stride."

A small wolfish smile graced the green furred females face as she mirrored the males movements. There was no need to be overly cautious at the moment. The other had made it clear that he was not the aggressive sort and would remain pleasant as long as nothing offensive was said or done. A small wag of her tail could be noticeable if he looked close enough, signaling that she was indeed content to have someone to speak with.

"Is it? I have never truthfully considered it to be anything out of the ordinary. Renvyle on the other hand is a name that is both unique and interesting."

It was true that she had never thought her own name to be of a harmonic or appealing nature. It was a bit difficult to say and not really that pleasant sounding. Though she took the others words as a well meaning complement regardless of whether she agreed to them or not. On the other hand she found the males name, whilst equally difficult to say, was considerably more pleasant sounding.

"I do not recall where my wanderings began... but I can understand that to travel all the way here from southern lands is an exhausting and draining journey. If I may, I'd like to ask what is the reason behind such a trip?"

As she mimicked his own relaxed position, he felt a wave of comfort. It was strange, sharing words with another after so long, but both were calm and complacent, which was enough to make him let his own guard down for the time being.

"A long time wanderer, then?" His tail wagged ever so slightly as he shifted to a more comfortable position, with his forelegs splayed out before him. Ears perked, one cocked towards her, while the other swiveled now and again.

"I've come searching for a pack to join, you see..."
PostPosted: Wed Feb 10, 2010 1:40 pm

A slow nod to the males question. She had been born a wanderer in truth, having followed her constantly moving mother until the time came that she needed to find her own path. She would not bore him with the pointless and irrelevant tale however, she did not want to chase him off due to boredom after all.

"Since I was old enough to travel, though it has only been during the past year that I have been on my own."

She was a bit surprised that he would travel so far in search of a pack to join. Surely there must have been some out there that appealed to the males nature and were willing to accept him into their ranks. Unlike Odhra - who had little interest in anything aside from her plants, he seemed like the capable sort. Odhra could see him standing as a Beta, or even an Alpha should he desire to start up his own pack.

"I wish you luck with your search. I know you will have a much easier time finding a pack that is willing to take you in. "

"Ah, I see. It is an interesting life, for sure." He offered a grin and a bob of his head in response to her statement. Since she was small. She seemed quite content with the life of a loner and he couldn't help but to quietly reflect on it for a few moments. He just wasn't sure he was cut out for that lifestyle.

"Oh, thank you." His green flecked tail wagged a few paces and he seemed to brighten after the lapse of those few, reflecting moments.Yes, he certainly wasn't cut out for it. But why would she have such a hard time finding a place to take her in?

"But why would you say such a thing about yourself? Surely, if you desired it, you could find a pack to take you?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 15, 2010 3:51 pm

Watching as the males multi-colored tail flicked back and forth Odhra had to wonder what one earth the other was thinking about moments before that had made the action so much more noticeable. Perhaps he had been thinking of the pack he had left behind? She assumed he had left his pack behind. He did not seem like the kind of being that would spend his life traveling.

She was a bit surprised by his question, and for a moment was hesitant to answer. To outright admit that she was a freak who spent her life examining the fauna of the forests she visited would be social suicide. Even so, she supposed it wouldn't hurt that much, after all, she probably wouldn't ever see this male again.

"Most of the wolves I have encountered believe me to be a bit of a space case. I spend my time with the plants of the forest more so then I do the wolves or other animals. I... am not what one would consider prime candidacy for a pack. It is also difficult to join a pack when you are constantly wandering in search of new things to study."

"A true loner, then." He nodded, as if understanding, but deep inside he could hardly fathom why a wolf wouldn't want the safety and comfort of a family pack around themselves. He had only been wandering for a few seasons and disliked it greatly, missing those who had made up the pack he had spent most of his life within.

"But surely, if you ever decided that you were finished with wanderlust, a lovely lady such as yourself wouldn't have trouble finding a pack to call home. I think you could do it." He nodded his head as he spoke, sure that what he said was true. She seemed pleasant enough, anyways. Perhaps there was more to her, a side that he had not yet seen, that would make her unfit for such things. But she did seem to be a decent wolf.
