I find the "made-ups all start human" rule to be unfair. And the whole "beginner" concept around it. Each official game introduces several youkai that, although have just been discovered (and created by ZUN), have been around for quite some time. It doesn't make sense for there be a sudden infux of humans unless Yukari got really bored.
Plus, even if that was the case, my character would probably turn youkai on the spot out of sheer force of will.

Well, really It's just a fact that all MMORPGs start off with everyone at lvl 1. And in that case, Yukari was really bored. There hasen't been an incident happening since U.F.O...
Heck, even reimu's admitting it. Altough she perfers something other than an incident...
And also, it's easier for a human to keep from changing into something, rather than try to change into something, Chi-Meiling.

So may we say, RP both a canon and an original character? Otherwise there probably wouldn't be very many canon characters involved in this...

Yes, you can. there really isn't a limit, just make sure you can keep up with your canons and made-ups.
And don't hog everything...

That's exactly the type of thing that makes many youkai anyway. Kogasa being abandoned, for example. And being an umbrella, not human...
