Vera shifted the bag of groceries from one arm to another. Why she hadn't taken the bus home, she had no idea - but here she was, walking down a semi-lit street on her way back to her apartment. It was an annoyance, to her thinking, that no one had bothered to change the light outside the complex. Which considering the prices anyone staying here was paying for rent made it that much more criminal. Fumbling to get her keys out of the pocket, the redhead attempted to balance her groceries between her hip and the doorframe, with only moderate success. Paper bags weren’t really meant for such acts, however, and with a muttered curse, Vera dropped her keys on the grass.
Setting the bag down on the stoop, the girl was soon on her hands and knees in the grass, unable to really see where they’d landed and having a hard time finding them by touch. Damn whoever was supposed to be doing maintenance around here!

This was his Big Chance! For one reason or another, Gabe had always sort of flaked out of the whole 'Starseed acquisition' duty. Not that he hadn't tried, and not that he hadn't been totally yelled at for it, but still. He fell asleep on patrol on rooftops, passed out drunk, or he had a raid. ******** serious business right there. He was waiting on a roof, and tried his best to stay out of light that cast shadows-- that is, after making his shadow dance for a good five minutes before he realized he was supposed to be doing something Important.
He was ~watching~ every person come in and out of the complex like it was serious business, which it was! It was so hard for the redhead to take anything seriously.. Half the time he forgot he was a halfway badass now, or that he could at least jump a hell of a height. Made sneaking out way easier. FOCUS, GABRIEL. FOCUS. There was a girl, now, who was leaning down and groping around for something. With a leap, he came down from the roof, landing hard, half on the grass and half on the ******** OW s**t." This was not, exactly, the sort of intro he'd been going for.

Vera’s hand has just grasped the missing keys when a loud exclamation behind her sent her jerking backwards instinctively, which unfortunately got crossed with the ‘stand up RIGHT NOW’ instinct. It was an awkward shuffle that came out instead of something smooth and graceful, and her momentum ended up nearly planting her face right into the ground she’d only just gotten off of. "Um?" she said after a moment, cycling through several other responses before settling on something noncommittal. "Can I help you?" she added without turning around or bothering to ask of the mystery person was alright.
He'd cursed and it sounded like a heavy landing (jumping from someplace high? Why? Vera filed the question away for later), so it was entirely likely whoever it was wasn't okay. And Vera despised pointless questions.

He popped his bottle out of hammer space, brandishing his oversized green weapon of glass-- jesus it was heavy. And half full! What a bunch of bull! Of precious, precious rum he'd forgotten to finish. "Uhm. HI. I am here to uh. Do...THINGS. WITH THE STUFF." Yeah this was a great impression he was making. Even decked out in his Negaverse uniform, he was still not that threatening. But damned if he didn't look cool while doing it, at least.
"You SEEEE. I'm here to take your uh. Your thingy. Don't take it TOOOO personal, yeah?" A grin, cocky and warm and sort of out of place for what he was ~trying~ to do. Trying...and failing. But still.

Vera finally turned around and stared in more than a little shock at the sight that greeted her. Granted, it was rather dark, but the overall appearance was one that spoke of threat and danger, his words and tone of voice to the contrary. Never having placed much faith in anything spoken, the girl's fingers flexed and tensed quickly before she remembered that she'd left her pencils at home before she went shopping. ********.
"My what?" she asked, blinking in some incomprehension while taking a cautious step backwards. He wasn't making any sense; oh god, was he drunk or on drugs? Did he want her wallet?
