Vera shifted the bag of groceries from one arm to another. Why she hadn't taken the bus home, she had no idea - but here she was, walking down a semi-lit street on her way back to her apartment. It was an annoyance, to her thinking, that no one had bothered to change the light outside the complex. Which considering the prices anyone staying here was paying for rent made it that much more criminal. Fumbling to get her keys out of the pocket, the redhead attempted to balance her groceries between her hip and the doorframe, with only moderate success. Paper bags weren’t really meant for such acts, however, and with a muttered curse, Vera dropped her keys on the grass.

Setting the bag down on the stoop, the girl was soon on her hands and knees in the grass, unable to really see where they’d landed and having a hard time finding them by touch. Damn whoever was supposed to be doing maintenance around here!

This was his Big Chance! For one reason or another, Gabe had always sort of flaked out of the whole 'Starseed acquisition' duty. Not that he hadn't tried, and not that he hadn't been totally yelled at for it, but still. He fell asleep on patrol on rooftops, passed out drunk, or he had a raid. ******** serious business right there. He was waiting on a roof, and tried his best to stay out of light that cast shadows-- that is, after making his shadow dance for a good five minutes before he realized he was supposed to be doing something Important.

He was ~watching~ every person come in and out of the complex like it was serious business, which it was! It was so hard for the redhead to take anything seriously.. Half the time he forgot he was a halfway badass now, or that he could at least jump a hell of a height. Made sneaking out way easier. FOCUS, GABRIEL. FOCUS. There was a girl, now, who was leaning down and groping around for something. With a leap, he came down from the roof, landing hard, half on the grass and half on the ******** OW s**t." This was not, exactly, the sort of intro he'd been going for.

Vera’s hand has just grasped the missing keys when a loud exclamation behind her sent her jerking backwards instinctively, which unfortunately got crossed with the ‘stand up RIGHT NOW’ instinct. It was an awkward shuffle that came out instead of something smooth and graceful, and her momentum ended up nearly planting her face right into the ground she’d only just gotten off of. "Um?" she said after a moment, cycling through several other responses before settling on something noncommittal. "Can I help you?" she added without turning around or bothering to ask of the mystery person was alright.

He'd cursed and it sounded like a heavy landing (jumping from someplace high? Why? Vera filed the question away for later), so it was entirely likely whoever it was wasn't okay. And Vera despised pointless questions.

He popped his bottle out of hammer space, brandishing his oversized green weapon of glass-- jesus it was heavy. And half full! What a bunch of bull! Of precious, precious rum he'd forgotten to finish. "Uhm. HI. I am here to uh. Do...THINGS. WITH THE STUFF." Yeah this was a great impression he was making. Even decked out in his Negaverse uniform, he was still not that threatening. But damned if he didn't look cool while doing it, at least.

"You SEEEE. I'm here to take your uh. Your thingy. Don't take it TOOOO personal, yeah?" A grin, cocky and warm and sort of out of place for what he was ~trying~ to do. Trying...and failing. But still.

Ithiltari
Vera finally turned around and stared in more than a little shock at the sight that greeted her. Granted, it was rather dark, but the overall appearance was one that spoke of threat and danger, his words and tone of voice to the contrary. Never having placed much faith in anything spoken, the girl's fingers flexed and tensed quickly before she remembered that she'd left her pencils at home before she went shopping. ********.

"My what?" she asked, blinking in some incomprehension while taking a cautious step backwards. He wasn't making any sense; oh god, was he drunk or on drugs? Did he want her wallet?

Gabe scritched the back of his head, hrmming a little here and there. "Your uh. Thingy. Glowy thingy." He was pretty damn new at this, and really, he actually wasn't sure what it entailed. Did he just...ask for it? Very nicely? Or rudely, as asking nicely for something wasn't usually within his vocabulary. It was kind of a matter of principle.

"Not your wallllleettt. Aw, man. I'm so not good at this. Want to buy some knowledge." He slumped a little before stretching like a cat. Maybe he won more flies with honey than with vinegar? Gabe blinked, dropping his bottle and leaning on it. "You need a hand?"

Vera continued to stare in blank incomprehension. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she snapped back at him, crossing her arms. "You're not a very good mugger," she continued, accusingly, almost disappointed. She'd heard, vaguely, about some kind of crime wave sweeping Destiny City and if this was the sort of person perpetuating it...Why hadn't they all been rounded up already?

"I, what?" the girl asked, blinking in astonishment at the change in conversational tack. "I dropped my keys?" What was going on around here? Vera hadn't been planning on telling Janice about this incident, provided nothing happened, but now -- her friend had lived here in this crazy town long enough to be able to explain things, and Vera was absolutely going to demand an explanation for this!

Gabe shrugged, digging in his pockets. "Ehhh. Forget it." This was going to take some work, obviously, as even powered up he didn't really...feel any different. Just silly. "I'm not here to rob you, lady. Dun need yer money or nothins."

Getting down on the ground, he rifled around on the ground in want for the keys. He had no idea what kind of incredible doom he might be in for upon Vera's friend finding out-- Gabe was just too oblivious. "Uhmmm!" He held up a keyring, waving them at Vera. "These it? Kinda grubby." He rubbed them on his uniform, dirtying his pinstriped vest in hopes of cleaning them off a little.

Standing and brushing off his knees, he just winced. "I uh. Just had a crazy moment! It happens sometimes. S'the water or something, I dunno." He struggled to come up with a response, settling on shrugging his shoulders and looking...well. Very sheepish.

Vera was still looking askance at Graphite. He dropped down from, one would assume, the roof or something, demanded she hand over her 'glowy thingy', and then gave it all up to ask if she needed help. This was entirely nonsensical. Apparently, he was the one who needed help, of the psychiatric variety.

While he dug around in the grass, the pink-haired girl checked to make sure all her groceries were still there. She'd turned her back on the strangest mugger anyone had ever encountered, which might not have been wise, but she was fairly sure she'd be able to hear if he started moving towards her. He really didn't seem to be the quiet type.

"Hm?" she asked while turning around. "Yes, those are mine," Vera continued, stretching her hand out for them once he'd cleaned them off. She peered at him sharply, her purple eyes suspicious. "The water? I," she took a deep breath and let it out. "Never mind. Thanks for finding my keys." He looked almost ashamed of what had happened before.

Gabe had...intended to do a lot of things. Perhaps try and take her starseed, or something, or attack her...

He just didn't have the cajones. The BALLS. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE OF STEEL...

but no, they most certainly were not.

The redheaded teen just dropped the keys in her hand, simple as that. He felt a little torn up about it-- if only because if he didn't get a starseed soon, he'd be toast.

"Yeahhh, s'the water, I'mma stick with that to save myself the embarassment and just...stick with that. Yeah."

He took off, hands in his pockets, looking sheepish as can be. "Seeya round. I er, promise to be less daft next time."
