Depends on what you want to do, but if you practice a ton there's no saying where you could end up. Just never give up an opportunity to show people what you can do and don't be afraid to try something new.

Good for you, the only other thing I'd have to say is don't expect too much of yourself. To be exact always try your hardest, but nothing will come right away you will need to work hard to get better. That can be the most frustrating thing sometimes, expecting yourself to always perfect, but never measuring up to your own standards. If you do that you will quickly find yourself losing passion, sorry about the rant but it's a fairly large issue with girls starting later.

I always say that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. for ballet you really have to commit, and sometimes it can get really hard to do that if you put enough time and effort into it to make it your profession. if you're just starting at 14 it may be very difficult but not impossible. flexibility and turnout are staples for a ballet dancer, so find the time to stretch a lot and develop as much flexibility as you can, because the older we get, the less flexible we become. make sure that you do the frog stretch and hold it for at least a minute every day. turnout is essential for a ballet dancer and depending on your body and age, your potential turnout could be limited if you don't really work at it. in the long run proper turnout will help you in every aspect of ballet, even if it isn't perfect. also stretch your hamstrings and quads and calves a lot.
i think that if you work hard and really focus you have just as much a shot at it as anyone else. good luck. heart

Important side note to your post Illustrious: I know it's true for me and I don't know how many other girls, but the frog stretch should never be used if you find it painful to your hips in way other than the feeling of stretching. If that is the case it is recommended that you do another stretch entirely. You sit down and move your legs so that the bottoms of your feet are touching and your legs form a diamond. Never let your feet sickle in when doing this stretch. From here you can slowly work your feet towards your body and very carefully put a small amount of pressure on your legs to improve the stretch. A little tip my physical therapist gave me is to sit with your back against a wall (that way you sit up 100% straight) and have you or someone else put pressure on your leg giving a little as you try to push their hand up. Once you do that for a couple seconds they should release the pressure and you should let your leg relax. I hope people understand what I just said because it gives really good results smile

if your dedicated, then yes.
where ever you go, go with ur heart.
but dont think you can just skip school like its nothing, after you grow old after your dance career, you will still need a job

oh, and dont give up if you dont get in a school!
its rarely possible that someone gets in on their first audition.
ask the judges how you could improve or what you did wrong. if you can. idk i never auditioned for anything other than a competition team which i got in the first audition.
always, try try again! just do ur best! if you love it, youll be appreciated

As others have said. Its takes a tonne of work and a lot of time and effort to get to the stage your looking at. You thing i would suggest is finding a decent, qualified ballet teacher. In australia most of the Ballet schools teach either RAD or Cecchetti method of Ballet. As someone who started at 13 take my advice and work hard on your turnout and do some stretching and strengthening every day if possible. Pilates is great for strengthing and stretching without overbuilding muscle. If i had listened to this advice that my dance teacher gave me years ago i may be a better ballet dancer than i am now. One of the blog of the australian ballet company that i like to follow is the behind ballet blog at www.behindballet.com. This blog has a section called "Ask Colin", written by Colin Peasley, ex-prinicipal artist who now runs the Education division of the Australian Ballet Company. Here he gives alot of advice to young dancers who want to audition for shows and companies. This may or may not be helpful but other companies throughout the world may have something similar that may help down your path to professional ballet!

going professional can be tough. If you're thinking about taking it seriously, it doesn't hurt to look back on basics to make sure you won't develop any bad habits.
I hope it goes well for you 3nodding
