Let this be a reminder: there are only 4 places on gaia that ask you for your password.

1) When you first log in.

2) When you send gifts.

3) When you make trades.

4) When selling or buying stuff on the marketplace.

If any other locations ask you for your password you are being scammed.

If you see anything that pops up and asks you for your password, you are being scammed, report the person who posted the scam or the thread that you are in.
(Sometimes it is difficult to determine who the scammer is)

Always check the web address that you are on before typing in your passwords.

Password Security: Make your password hard for anyone to remotely guess.

1) Make it so it's at least 8 characters, has both letters and numbers, and ideally has at least one special character in it (such as !, $, %, etc,).

2) Do not use a word from the dictionary, words or combinations of words are easy for hackers to guess.

3) Change your password once in a while. Do not keep using the same password forever.

4) Do not use the same password for everything, keep your gaia password unique from other websites you may be on.

If you suspect your password has been compromised change it immediately.

Common Scams

1. False Log-In Pages - These are often hosted on sites with urls very similar to gaiaonline.com but with small differences (such as gaiaonline.nr ) They may be linked in a fake booty grab game, or an image link or may just pop up while in a thread like this:

2. PMs - These usually take one of two forms. PMs telling you that you must reply with your username and password to avoid being banned. They will often say that you've been reported or inactive or that your account is suspected or botting, etc. Gaia does not NEED your password to clear up these sort of issues so if a PM asks for it, then it's a fake.
Others will offer you reward such as free gold and items such as through a botting service. These are usually just scammers too.

Gaia Cash Offers

Official Gaia Info About How to Report Bad Offers

Use caution when applying for free cash offers!
- Many offer free trials and make it exceedingly difficult to cancel before being charged.
- Others claim that they give you the cash for free for a survey, but you cannot complete their survey without signing up for other offers that charge.
- Still others will take your personal info and sell it to other advertisers or potentially even identity thieves.
- Some make you download software which may contain viruses and trojans.

Here is a guide with info about many of the offers that are bad:

You might also check the better business bureau if you're unsure about an offer.

This is a lot of great information, I hope Astral gets to read this soon. And about the GC offers, they are malfunctioning on my firends, my, and people I know. The offeral support says that the confirmation and what not when the offer has been completed.

As a note you should make your password something only you would think of, like from a past expierience, or may a word that isn't even real with a number combination, maybe if you were in school it could be your locker combo.

Note!

There's been a mysterious "mass hacking" reported and people suspect the marketplace. I don't know any more than what's given in This Thread with Developers Comments about their efforts to close the security holes

MIA = missing in action

for awhile, no one could access their inventory, cl's changed to 1.0, rings were missing, could not post in forums, etc.

so, yeah it was a bit scary.

oh, and gaia stopped granting any items for a bit too, so couldn't grabs eggs or kill anything.

hopefully everyone got everything back!
