Caffeine is bad for both anxiety/panic attacks and mania (if you're bipolar) because it will aggravate both. But when I say caffeine I mean like what's in soda or caffeinated coffee/other beverages. Honestly there is so little caffeine in chocolate that most people don't have to worry about that unless they eat a whole lotta chocolate (seriously, one Hersey's bar contains the equivalent of two cups of decaffeinated coffee).

surprising garlic works for fleas. I have a cat that has flea allergies too and I can't always afford frontline or advantage, it's a pain in the but to get them to take it. Here's some things I stole from eartheasy.com. The garlic stuff is in bold at the bottom. I've only ever used garlic powder a couple of times when the fleas were really bad in the summer. I would definately at least call a vets office and ask about this before trying it.

another thing I heard was using baby shampoo, something with it is supposed to kill fleas (on ferrets anyways).

You can always vaccum a hundred times a day and change your cat's bedding. PLEASE don't ever use flea collars. I bought one that made my cats hair fall out around his neck.

__________

"Buyer beware" -- Toxic products masquerading as "natural"

Even if all the ingredients in a flea repellent product are natural, this doesn't ensure that they won't be toxic to your pet. For instance, d'Limonene, which is derived from citrus peels and found in many natural anti-flea products, can be highly toxic to cats. Herbal flea collars, though they don't contain the poisons that conventional flea collars do, come with the same warning: do not let children play with the collar. If it's not good for your child, why would it be good for your pet?

It is advisable to read product labels carefully. For example, one line of supposedly natural flea sprays and dips contains "all natural synthetic Pyrethrin." Pyrethrins are insecticides derived from the African chrysanthemum (Pyrethrum). Pyrethroids are synthetic derivatives of pyrethrins. Both are commonly used in conventional preparations which make the product sound innocent because it's derived from a flower. But pyrethrins alone can be toxic to the animal and pyrethroids expose your animal to more chemicals.

Other natural ingredients known to cause allergic reactions or have toxic effects in some animals include Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) oil and Pennyroyal oil.

Cat owners take special note: Cats should not be given any essential oils, period.

The use of essential oils with cats is a potentially volatile combination. Cats do not efficiently metabolize essential oils and their use can lead to symptoms of toxicity. In addition to essential oils, cats have known metabolic sensitivities to certain herbal preparations and allopathic medications. Because the cat's body does not efficiently excrete essential oils, they can build up to toxic levels. Symptoms of toxicity include vomiting, dizziness, clumsiness, lack of appetite, lack of energy and shock. In addition, cats have very thin, delicate skin. Essential oils are absorbed rapidly into their skin and enter the bloodstream, overwhelming their systems. Cats dislike strong odors and generally keep away from strong scents -- even highly diluted essential oils.

Some people find that they can use essential oils on their cats with no obvious adverse effects. Although one or more applications of an essential oil product or blend may not cause immediate harm, the effects of essential oils can be cumulative and manifest themselves at a later date in the form of toxicity for which owners and vets often can find no attributable cause. Garlic and yeast

Fleas particularly dislike the flavor of garlic and yeast (nutritional or brewer's yeast). Mixing garlic and yeast with your pet's food can render their blood unpalatable to fleas.

Cat owners: Please be aware that raw garlic is known to be toxic to cats. The use of garlic, as well as onions, shallots and chives, has been shown to cause damage to feline red blood cells which can result in hemolytic anemia and eventual death. Raw garlic and onions can also cause ulcers and irritation of the mouth, esophagus and stomach. Not all cats are affected in the smae way, and some sources suggest a small clove of garlic daily is helpful to cats with flea problems, however we suggest this as a measure of last resort which should include observing the animal's ongoing health. If garlic is used, it should be withdrawn once the flea flea problem recedes.

Use about a teaspoon of brewer's (or nutritional) yeast daily for cats and small dogs, and a tablespoon for a 50-pound dog. Some animals are yeast intolerant and will react with a skin allergy. Discontinue use if this occurs. Combine the yeast with the garlic in your animal's food, and consider doubling the dosage during peak flea season.

Other natural repellents include vitamin B1 (thiamine) and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. (See your veterinarian for the correct amount of a vitamin B1 supplement for your pet.) The dosage of apple cider vinegar is about one teaspoon daily in the pet's drinking water. Apple cider vinegar helps strengthen the immune system.

Here is a warning about garlic from the aspca website under "people foods your should avoid giving your pet"
Onions, Garlic, Chives
These vegetables and herbs can cause gastrointestinal irritation and could lead to red blood cell damage. Although cats are more susceptible, dogs are also at risk if a large enough amount is consumed. Toxicity is normally diagnosed through history, clinical signs and microscopic confirmation of Heinz bodies. An occasional low dose, such as what might be found in pet foods or treats, likely will not cause a problem, but we recommend that you do NOT give your pets large quantities of these foods.

you can invest in a good flea comb or lice comb, the closer the tines are to each other the better. when you comb your cat, have a cup with dish soap and water in it. when you find fleas on the comb, drop them into the soapy water and they die on contact. if you comb them once a day it will help to take care of the problem, and vaccuming will help too. i got this from kasas aromatherapy thread:

"Keeping Pets Flea-Free

Citronella makes a great natural flea spray for your pets.

-Leave your pet's collar to soak in a weak dilution of citronella oil overnight (5 drops to 2 cups water). When collar has dried, put it back onto your pet."

it could be the aluminum in the deodorant. toms of maine offers an aluminum-free lavender that smells really good and works well, i use it heart , so keep an eye out for aluminum free deodorant. if you want to make one one your own ive got a recipe for home made deodorant:

apply 10 drops of aloe vera onto each underarm, then combine one of the following essential oil formulas and rub in well. finish by patting on cornstarch to dry any leftover residue. dont forget to remove any excess oil with a tissue to prevent staining your clothes.

formula one
roman chamomile~2 drops
vanilla~2 drops
spikenard~2 drops

formula two

vanilla~2 drops
spikenard~2 drops
lavender~2 drops.

and if you just shaved, wait 15-20 minutes before doing this, so it wont cause an angry burning sensation.

Though it never worked for me, my sister says nail polish would do it too. Same concept either way, suffocating it.
