Was anybody else here disappointed by BioShock 2?

I mean, it was good. It was great. It just was... almost exactly the same as the first game. And, most importantly, at no point did I actually feel like I was a Big Daddy.

I was also disappointed by the changes made to the Big Sister. Initially, there was only going to be one Big Sister who would continually hunt the player down throughout the course of the game and then retreat once she was defeated, a little like Resident Evil 3's Nemesis. This Big Sister was written as a Little Sister who, as she grew up on the surface, could not leave the memory of Rapture behind and eventually returned. The reason for the change, as explained by the Lead Designer for 2K Marin, was that "if you have a single character that the player knows they can't kill because they're so important to the story you're completely removing the triumph of overcoming that encounter with them." Personally, I think the feeling of finally overcoming a formerly unbeatable enemy at the end of the game is much more satisfying that the temporary satisfaction brought by beating one Big Sister after another.

I playd these games for the first time one after the other. I'm pretty sure I played both in 4 or 5 days. I thought it was amazing. Both seem extremely well done, but I was sad that in Bioshock 2 there wasn't a big twist at the end as there was in Bioshock 1. Then again I liked how your actions in Bioshock 2 basically shaped Eleanor.
Overall, AMAZING GAMES.

Exactly my thoughts, the first idea sounded awesome for the Big Sister. Woulda thought they'd have some really cool ideas for the story with an antagonist like that.

When I saw the first gameplay trailer for BioShock 2 and it ended with the Big Daddy getting his a** handed to him by the Big Sister, I was shitting my pants in both fear and anticipation. In my opinion, making the Big Sister into a common enemy was a terrible move.

I like the overall gameplay of Bioshock 2, but I like the plot of the first one better. And the idea I got from the trailers was that their was only one Big Sister, and that she just kept returning.... which would have been better, I think.

Although you do get more Adam.

Fans of the first two games might want to check out the trailer for BioShock Infinite. It's currently in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC and is scheduled for a release in 2012. As far as I'm concerned, this is what BioShock 2 should have been. Different, but still recognizably BioShock. I can hardly wait. biggrin

I don't get the trailer for Infinite. To me, it's just not BioShock, but then again, it's just a teaser trailer.

Infinite has little to do with the first two games. It takes place in 1912 in a floating city called Columbia. After sitting through a sequel that was much too similar to the original, I'm quite looking forward to the change in scenery. I'm interested to see what kind of story unfolds in Columbia.

it's supposed to be more like bioshock 1. and it's a spinoff too, not bioshock 3 which is good.

but yeah, you're guaranteed a good storyline if it's bioshock.

speaking of storyline, i think the novel's current release date is february 2011.... god knows if the movie'll ever come out.

I think I like the idea of a city underwater rather than a city in the sky, but that's just me. No matter what, it's Bioshock, so it's guaranteed to amazing.
