Ok so in band I have to play a song that has a low F# and it MUST be played quietly. Every time I play quietly, and an octave lower than it's used to, it automatically plays the octave higher. Any ideas on how to stop it? It's hard when we have Bruce Pearson coming to work with us...

When you play quietly, you have to use your diaphragm. When you inhale, don't fill just your lungs, your stomach should as well. To have good control of your diaphragm you have to have good stomach muscles. If you play quiet and run out of air quick then work on building up your ab muscles.
The embouchure does have a play in it, but just as he said just loosen up. When you play, if you push your jaw back, smile, and take in more mouth piece you should have a better tone. I didn't learn how to get mine right until this year and I've been playing sax for 5 years now so it's difficult to keep it, but I'm working on it. Just work on getting your embouchure and air speed right and you should be fine.
