Cold + rain = blek.

Not only was it the middle of winter, but this morning it had rained. Not snowed...rained. Vasu could romp around in the snow easily, or the rain even. But cold rain? He'd likely catch cold and be sick for weeks. The tendencies of a foal, yet old enough to know better. Instead, he had waited for the rain to pass, while lounging under a large great oak. It was moderately dry at least.

The rain had ceased about mid day, but Vasu'raj didn't feel like getting up. Lazy? Nooo. Just content to lay there and do nothing.

As he lay there, a small finch like bird landed on the ground in front of him.

Don't move. he told himself.

He froze. Watching the small bird hop on it's little peg legs, and peck around the ground for food. He watched as bit by bit, other little birds joined him. All doing an almost synchronized dance, of hoping around the ground, and searching for food. He made the observation, that these tiny birds preferred this cold wet ground over the snow, cause there was so many!

His breathing was shallow, careful, eyes wide. He did well not to move.

She'd been stalking the finch in the rain. She and the bird had taken to the same tree when the cold rain had started in the morning. Jaloo always got up earlier than normal. If she didn't, she had to listen to her brothers be brothers and argue and fight for no reason. Or her dad's singing and cooing to her mother. The pair of them were sickening at times. So, she left before the sun rose, got caught in the rain with the bird, and waited until the rain came to at least a drizzle and out they went.

"Come back here!" She'd call to it every now and then. Her voice sounded very much like a young colt's voice, but she didn't care. It suited her personality so well. And her singing voice made her sound like an older mare, which didn't bother her any.

She didn't see the stallion under the tree where the bird had landed, oh no. She was focused on the bird and only the bird. Walking slowly, trying not to make a sound, Jaloo made her way over, hooves making light noises, not enough to startle the bird. Her breathing came in soft pants, and there was a layer of sweat upon her coat. She'd been running, and, despite the cold, it made her hot and sweaty. What Jaloo really needed was a drink, not to play with the bird.

From the knees down she was covered in mud, her mane full of twigs and tree bark and probably stickers. Her tail half covered in mud, half thorns. But she just ignored the itch of drying mud and ran at the bird. "GOTCHA!"

THEN she noticed the male, when the bird flew away. She attempted to skid to a stop, so she didn't run over him. Instead, she tripped and went toppling to the ground in an ungraceful heap of legs and hair, getting even more muddy. "Oooow..."

MARE

Vasu'raj, if it were possible, froze even more than before. Approaching him was a creamy, muddy, sun kissed female. OH boy he thought. But...he wasn't breathing. He couldn't hold his breath forever, and wasn't even aware he was doing so. The whites of his eyes showed as he looked on in a wide eyed stare. See, hit poor fella was so easily star-struck by the sight of other mares. Caught unawares, he didn't have time to trip over himself upon seeing her.

"GOTCHA!"

It seemed she was going to do all the tripping for him! o.o His mouth matched his eyes now, as he took a good, now closer, look at the visitor. She may have been dirtier than he'd ever been! Though he wasn't so dirty right now.

He didn't even have time to react to the birds flying away. Gotcha...oh she had him alright. One brained guy with mares, and for an instant, he thought she meant him. Wow.

Exhaling suddenly, since he needed to finally breathe, he quickly took a breathe in and tried to talk right after. "You got me alright." Then his brain caught up on the images surrounding her arrival, perhaps now that it had oxygen again. The birds. She had been after one or all of the birds. He could face plant his head into a tree. "The birds I mean...you got the bird." But the birds had flown away.. "I mean, you'll get it next time" Red lights of warning were flashing in his mind. Way to go and mess up your greeting.. and other assaults on himself on how that could of gone better.

He took another deep breath, and squinted his eyes closed. "What I meant to say is...Hi." He opened one eye. "You alright?" Then opened the other. The expression on his face was priceless. He was trying to contain how awkward he felt, and looked like he might burst from doing so. His cheeks were flushed, his eyes raised, and his lips pressed tight to avoid grinning at the pretty, pretty, muddy mare.

A voice caught her attention and she scrambled up off the ground and she blinked hard. Wait. What? She got him? But... that's not what she had been trying to do. Then he mentioned the birds and Jaloo's eyes softened a bit and she laughed. Oh, he was nervous for some reason. Every other male she'd come across had been so confident, but he seemed to trip over his own thoughts and words. Finally, the other got out the greeting he'd been searching for and she couldn't help but laugh again, her head hanging down, braids following in suit as her frame shook with laughter. What the hell. He was so cute! Like a little colt just getting his legs.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. I do this all the time," she said through her laugh, the smile still firmly on place when she had finally calmed down a little bit. Ah, that was refreshing. Meeting a stallion that wasn't teasing her right off the bat for being completely filthy. That's just the way Jaloo was; always getting in some kind of trouble, always dirty, just like a filly would. She had the energy of a foal, and couldn't believe the number of adults that didn't. It was so boring, being an adult.

She looked at the black male and noticed the white markings and the feathers on his tale, and the green upon his legs. He was quite a looker! And his hair was so curly as opposed to her straight and braided. Still, he'd be fun to hang out with and converse with. "I'm completely alright. I'm Jaloo. You... are new to this area, I bet. Don't look like you come here much; you're not dirty like I am!" She grinned a bit and looked at the still dark sky. It would rain again, that was for sure.

Tail flicking and swatting at an itch on her stomach, she just splashed mud on herself and in his direction. "Oops... Uhm. Sorry 'bout that. Forgot how dirty I was..."

Vasu was in a trance as she lauhged. Goosebumps covered him, no, he wasn't cold, she was just so pretty. Her bubbly, refreshing laugh, was music to his ears. The fact that she was possibly laughing with him, and not at him made him all the more entranced. He listened to her every word. A devilish smirk spread across his face, his eye brows raising. Before he could contain it a moment longer, he was grinning ear to ear. Bright white teeth matched the white of his joyful eyes.

Jaloo. Wow, what a unique name.

Tell her your name! Dolt! was his thought as he stared on, grinning in silence.

"Vasu'raj!" he blurted. "I mean..haha, my names Vasu." he laughed at himself and went back to grinning. Everyone seemed to call him Vasu rather than Vasu'raj, though he didn't mind either.

Boy, she really was dirty. One branch was sticking out of one of her manes braids in an antler fashion. He normally hid his tendency to be dirty, for fear of scrutiny. Jaloo, was amazingly more dirty than he had ever been in front of another, and she seemed to pay it no mind. He squeaked as she flinged mud on him. "Hey!" his lips pushed together in a goofy expression, as he tried to look offended. He just looked silly. He was bad at faking, real bad..

He did the one thing he thought best. Craning his neck to the ground, he rubbed the sides of his face on it, as if he had some crazy itch. The sea green swirls on his face, and the black hide, were now covered in bits of wet ground. Raising back up, he grinned at her with his all teeth smile. He wasn't accustomed to getting dirty intentionally. Especially with mud. It worked though! It was a somewhat feeble attempt though, to make her feel better about being dirty, since only his face was dirty now. Except for the small bit of mud she had splashed on him of course. "Nope! Not new here Miss. I just hide my dirty well." he said with shifty eyes, half expecting a sibling to jump out a bush and say 'Caught you!'.

Ah! He was just making her laugh left and right with his nervousness. Really, she didn't mean too, but the way he blurted out his name was startling and she couldn't help but snicker in order to try to suppress her laughter, to no avail. Tears formed in her eyes from laughing so much and she took several deep breaths. His expressions were classic and then blinked when he covered his face in the mud. Oh, so it was true.

"So you do! God, Vasu... I haven't laughed like that in a while. What're you doing out here? Most stallions stay indoors after the rain, or something. That's what I've noticed. Only foals go to romp around in the mud. Foals and myself. Her ears flicked a bit, dripping mud to the ground where it hit with a 'plop'. Clear blue eyes looked into equally clear blue eyes. His hair... she liked it. It swirled like his markings and she was intrigued by the dream catcher about his neck.

She moved closer to examine the thing on his chest and then grinned. "It'd suck to get that thing dirty. Looks hard to clean. I just have to jump in a river and swim around to get clean.." She said, backing up and then grinned. She could get used to this foal like male. He had spunk and was actually pretty funny.

A cracked up laugh joined in with Jaloo as he grinned. It was refreshing that he could make her laugh. Not that he was trying to. He was such a nervous, tight wound ball!

Relax! he told himself as he inhaled and breathed out slowly, trying to take his own advice. Vasu was so hopeless around mares. It seemed he always met one once or twice, then never saw mane or tail of them again. Even his younger brothers had found happiness with others, and his younger sister. He had stopped looking long ago, so it made it slightly easier for his cool to return. He put it out of his mind and tried not to think about it.

He prepared to respond to her, but after saying her name, got lost before returning to the topic. "Jaloo. Gosh that's a pretty name." And your pretty. He thought as he stared on. At least he hadn't blurted it out.. The bright icey cool colors in her mane, framed the color of her eyes in perfect harmony he noticed, as he stared for an awkward moment. Not that the mud bothered him, pfft, as if. But he imagined she was quite a sun catcher when she was clean, or the mud had dried. He'd like to see either.

His mind reminded him that they were in a conversation...and he was staring. "I uhh..didn't feel like catching cold. Figured the tree was sufficient, since the rain wasn't falling hard earlier. When it stopped, I just didn't feel like moving." he said with a slight wince. He wasn't lazy! Really he wasn't.

An o face was made as she moved in closer. He was holding his breath. Upon realizing she was just checking out his necklace, he attempted to exhale slowly. Most likely breathing on her more than he intended.

"My mothers two legger gives me my dream-catcher. Funny." he huffed. "I haven't caught in dreams in them yet." he said with a hint of dejection. Vasu was not the kind to mope though. "I don't understand her, but she sure does get flustered when I get it dirty." he laughed with more control, the topic not making him uneasy. "The upright woman repairs it when needed. And gave me these." He scooted his front legs closer to Jaloo, to show off his green bands around his ankles.

"Do you have a furless-upright one?" he tried to keep the topic going. His nerves slowly unwinding as long as he didn't focus on Jaloo. Half a smirk spread on his lips as he watched her.

A who da wh-huh now? OH. It took her a moment to process what he was saying, since he was kind of rambling, but she figured it out AND felt smart about it. "I have one. He takes great care of me. He also doesn't care if I get dirty because he likes cleaning me. He's always smiling when he does it. Then he puts new feathers in my mane and tail when I lose them. Loves to braid me, too." Jaloo nodded sagely, as if she'd explained the secret of the universe or something to him. With a little giggle, she backed away and looked him over fully once more.

She couldn't get over just how awesomely dark he was. Her family was mainly light, that she met, anyway, all but her brother, London. Which made her question and think all the time, but she never pryed. "Jaloo's an unusual name, I've been told. Someone tried to call me Jal before, and I'm like: Nope. Doesn't fit me." Honestly, why would anyone shorten her already short name? If they had a long name like... well, her dad, she could see it. Starseeker was a long name and often way to hard to pronounce when you're yelling at him to shut up. She flicked her head a bit, getting her muddy mane on the other side of her neck with a wet smack and then grinned.

"I guess I should probably clean up in the river. It'd be easier to talk. When this stuff starts drying it itches sooo bad and like.. drives me bananas. Want to follow me and go for a nice ice cold swim?" She realized it was cold, but she didn't mind it. Jaloo had always liked cold weather, it made her feel alive to run around until she started sweating and panting. Running until her legs burned and then pushing herself beyond that. That's how she built up all her leg muscles.

"He doesn't care if you get dirty? Bonus!" His dad would more than likely flip if he showed up dirty. His dad was so regal, and pompous. Considered himself the spirits gift to mares. He expected his family to be no less. One reason Vasu always dodged that bullet, and kept away from his family. Never for too long though. His mother was always sweet and wonderful to go home to, no matter what, she accepted him.

"I'm glad mom's two legger doesn't try to braid my hair. They look great on you though." Not that you could really see the detail of her braids with all the twigs and mud. Didn't matter. He zoned off in his half smirk again.

"You know, most soquili shorten my name too. I never pay it much mind though. Vasu. Vasu'raj." his black shoulders shrugged. A good deal of his family had interesting sounding names. His parents both shortened their names: Chu'mana was Chu, Hok'ee was Hok <---which did sound funny to him. Good thing he could just call em' pops or dad.

If anyone else had asked him to go jump in the river in cold weather, he'd of turned up his lip with a pout. For Jaloo? He would probably do anything. For any mare no doubt. He could be so easily manipulated. Luckily, he hadn't ran into those types. With a flit of a smile, that reached his eyes, he said: "I'd follow you anywhere." He meant to the river. Was it obvious that it could mean so much more? He noted that the mud was already starting to dry in the more sparse areas on Jaloo's back. "Let us make haste before you start to itch!" he proclaimed with excitement as he sprung to his feet with energy.

Craning his neck down, he tried to assist Jaloo in rising to her feet too. More of the mud that was on her, got on Vasu as he did.

Oh yeah...GIRL mud..

*faceplants at Vasu and laughs* XD
PostPosted: Thu Feb 11, 2010 2:51 pm

Nodding a bit and thanking him for his help, she started off towards the river and smirked. He'd need a bath, too. The way he complimented her and made his comments made her start thinking about what Kisho said. Open your eyes and you find love? But this wasn't love. Jaloo wasn't sure what it was; friendship? Something more? What the hell. Her head was starting to throb just thinking about it. Her tail dragged in the mud behind her as she gave Vasu a side long glance.

Could she even fall in love? How would she know if she was? Argh! Why was she thinking like a girl? Get back on track, Jaloo! she chided herself as she rolled her eyes at herself. Whatever! "Uhm. Starseeker, my dad, is called Star. Oathkeeper, my grandpa, is called Oath?" She didn't know what else to contribute to the conversation on names. The rest of her family was pretty short on names.

Finally getting to the river, Jaloo headed in first, yelping as the cold hit her and she tensed. "It's uhm.... very cold." She tried not to shudder as she went further in. She had to swim to get it off. That's how it worked if she didn't want her mom's two-legger to not get sick from cleaning her. The sneezing was horrible. So, in she went to about her neck, where she dipped her head under and then emerged, mud leaving dirty streaks across her face before she started to swim around in circles. Her body was warming up to the water, but her muscles wouldn't stop twitching; it was cold! She wouldn't be able to stay in for long.

Vasu skipped along beside Jaloo. He had bounce in his step, and rhythm in his hooves. At first he wasn't sure which river they were going to. Paying attention to his surroundings, it seemed the closest rivers edge was northeast of their current location. The river was close to the mountains...and even colder perhaps this far north. He shuttered at the thought of how cold it was going to be. Side glancing at Jaloo as she spoke, he got all warm and fuzzy though. He could do this. No matter how cold the water was.

He didn't say much the trip there, and neither did she. It seemed his company was lost in thought. He didn't mind at all. Silence wasn't something that bothered him.

As they arrived, he hesitated. He wasn't going in the water first, no way! His shoulders slumped up, his neck pushed down between them. His eyebrow raised, and his face winced. His posture was if he was trying to brace himself on Jaloo's behalf. He might not be experiencing the cold yet, but he felt her pain.

Inch worming up to the waters edge, he lowered his muzzle to the top of the water. He imagined he could feel the cold emanating off the water. He snorted, then squeaked like a mare. The huff of air from his snort, had caused the water to n** at his muzzle with a light splash. HOLY HECK THAT WATER IS COLD.

"That's real cold."

Looking over at Jaloo, he shivered from head to hoof. She seemed to be getting used to the water. He puckered his lip out and pouted. He wanted to get in the water with Jaloo, but it was terribly cold! Shuffling his feet about with indecisiveness, he turned, trotted away from the water, built up speed and charged at the rivers edge. He charged at an angle, intending to jump away from where Jaloo was, only to push his legs out like stiff poles. He stopped himself short of sliding in.

"Gah!" he turned back around, and charged at the waters edge again. He would most likely stop again. Or would he...

"RAHH!!!!" with a masculine yell, to encourage himself to take the leap, his front legs launched off the ground in a spindly thrash at the air. His back legs sprung up like a frog, giving him the distance he needed to make the jump.

SPLOOSH. His legs hit the rivers bottom, and sent a shocking vibration up the rest of his body. He didn't hurt himself, but it was a big jump, and the river not quite deep enough. Thrashing around like a fish out of water, he poked his head up. "HUHHHHHH" It was the sound of a cold exhale, filled with a shuttering noise as his body convulsed.

He had did it! In the name of all things mare, he had did it! He grinned at Jaloo with the biggest, goofiest grin, before his teeth started to chatter like mad. It made him laugh. "Hahahaha. It's soooo c-c-cold Jaloo!" he walk-swam his way closer to her, using his hooves to push off the rivers bottom and propel him closer to her.

What a scene.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 13, 2010 6:07 am

As he yelled, Jaloo looked over and nearly screamed in response, to see what he'd do. Wait, why was he jumping? It wasn't deep enough! With a sigh, she shook her head and let him come closer, staying in one place for him. "Of-f c-course it's c-c-cold!" She said breathlessly; her breath coming out in white swirls with the added cold from the river. She swam around a bit and then headed back for shore. No way in hell that she'd stay in that water that long! Urgh. To cold, waaay to cold for her liking. Now what was she going to do to get warm again? Looking up at the sky once she got her footing on the grass, Jaloo shook her coat off of water and flicked her tail, pouting. That would take forever to dry, and she was cold now.

At least she was clean now. Her coat was dark, still, but one could see white, orange, yellow and her purple swirls. Shivering and shaking, she looked back to Vasu, motioning him to follow. He wasn't as dirty as she was; so why was he even in the river? Thinking about it, did she even ask him to go in? She'd asked him to come along, but... "H-h-huh..." Stuttering, shivering... Jaloo vowed she'd never get muddy in the winter ever again. It was way to cold for this.

"V-v-vasu! It's.... It's so cold.... g-get out-t!" She called for clarification, waiting patiently. Maybe they could cuddle together or something. Share body heat? Maybe.

His teeth chattered noisily. He laughed at the sound. He couldn't make it stop no matter how hard he clenched his teeth.

His eyes diverted, watching Jaloo as she skipped out the river and onto the shore. His mouth slowly parted, his jaw dropping in slow motion. WOW. She. Was. Beautiful!! The mud now gone from her, he could see how gorgeous she was! His eyes danced around, from her purple laced design, to the mirrored sun-kissed orange on her legs, that matched her back. He hadn't seen her legs under all the mud. Mmmmm, such nice legs. His mouth was still agape. And her hair! He could see the different cool colors of ice blue and light orchid in her mane and tail. His teeth weren't chattering anymore, he was just soaking in the vision before him.

His mouth shut as her voice got his attention, and he remembered how bloody cold it was in this river!! "Yes m-m-ma'am!" He said as he thrashed out the water and onto the shore. Looking at her with a dashing yet goofy smile, you might be able to tell he was thinking of doing something somewhat silly. Placing all four legs firmly on the ground, to brace himself, he began to shake off the water with quite a good bit of energy. His mane flipped from side to side in waves, flinging off all the water. He shook his back, and finished with a flick of his tail.

He grinned when he was done and trotted over to Jaloo. She was still dripping with water. Maybe he had splashed her...he hoped not! He focused on a stream of water that was dripping down her brow. It threatened to roll in her eye soon. Instinctively, he reached his face towards her, and used his warm sticky tongue to lap up the water in two quick strokes. Then he stopped and felt stupid. He was licking her! "Umm..sorry. You had water on you." DUH. She had water all over her. He tightened up, not knowing how she'd react to him just licking her. Oops..

He shifted his eyes around nervously. "Umm...you've also still got a branch in your mane." he bobbed his head a little as her looked around at anything but her. Then he finally looked at her again and moved in to move the branch out of one of her braids. Clinching his teeth on the branch, he gingerly pulled on it till it gave way. Dropping it on the ground, and staring at it for a sec, he looked back up at Jaloo and blushed.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:55 am

Just as she was about to say something, Jaloo felt a tongue on her and that made her stiffen and hold her breath. What was it he said? Oh. Right. Water. She stared at him, her baby blue eyes just wide and had a guarded feeling to them. But, she watched as he slipped from the river, too and gave a grin when he did. He looked better when he was soaked. Maybe, if they were still friends, they could go swimming together in the summer.

Her thoughts trailed off as he tugged the branch from her mane and she shifted a bit and flicked her head , adjusting her mane and getting it even more dry. No doubt she got him wet, which caused Jaloo to laugh and then face him fully. She leaned over and tried something she'd never done before. She let her own tongue run across his chin and to the swell of his jaw, getting the dripping water there. "Uhm.... Yeah. I rather like you. You're different than the others I'd met. It's amazing."

Vasu'raj jolted, the curls of his mane bouncing in the air. The sensation of her tongue was far from expected. The nerves in his body struck like lightning, and he startled back a few paces. His mother had licked him when he was a colt, but nobody had sense then. Actually, no mare had been that close to him period.

"Uhh--huh-huh--uh......" The dark hide of his cheeks was steaming hot as the blood rushed to his face. Black did well to hide his blush! Unless it was noticeable in the lighter markings of his face... His lips pinched together and pushed out, his eyebrows high, his eyes wide. Most stallions would play it off smooth, but Vasu wore his heart on his back like a saddle, for all to see should they choose to.

"Ummm...." He coughed, his throat was suddenly dry and felt very tight. Clearing his throat he tried to speak, his voice cracking a bit. "THANks. I LI.." his voice sounded like a yearling in puberty. He cleared his throat again, trying reeeal hard to sound appealing and suave. "I...like you too......Jaloo." There it was again, his cheeks flustered so bad it hurt. He looked off to the side, trying not to look at Jaloo, or he might start hyperventilating.

"Sooo...yeah." He was smirking so hard, he could feel it straining the muscles on his forehead.
