Aleu was wandering around the area close to her families den. As usual she refused to go too far without her mothers permission. Humming a little tune and she padded her way through the trees, her eyes roamed for anything of interest that she might be able to sing about. Sure she could sing the trees, or the clear skies or the squirrel that just ran across the path, but today she was looking for something extra special to sing about.
Though her eyes were focused on her surroundings her mind was off in the distance. Humming as she thought about the recent goings on in the pack. Merrill had found a pup lost in the pack lands of which didn't belong. She hadn't met this new pup yet but she could only hope that he wouldn't be as annoying as Derecho was. She highly doubted that would happen since males seemed to be plagued with an annoyance gene. Giving her head a shake, she changed the tune of her humming a bit and continued on her way.

 Verse hadn't really explored much since Merrill had taken him in - the little wolf had spent most of his time napping in the back of the beta's den. But he seemed to be napped out at the moment - he wasn't at all tired and a bit of exploring seemed like just the thing to do. Trotting to the den entrence he stuck his head out, eyes roving to and fro until he spotted a bit of movement not far off.
Another pup! Merrill had said thier were others but he had yet to meet them. Of course he couldn't just bound up to her and spout off his name - that was boring and Verse wanted to make a good impression the first time he did meet them. Furrowing his brow he tried to come up with a decent way to do so.When a decent enough thought struck him Verse wagged his tail and skipped in her direction, stopping in front of her with a little bow of his head.
"Greetings my friend!
Why you nearly blend,
With the ground that you tread
Well except for the cap...
Of white on your head.
I thought I'd drop by
So i could say Hi
And say my name's Verse
A strange name I know,
But it could be worse!"

Aleu's humming and feet stopped in unison as the strange pup came in front of her. She knew immediately that it was the pup that Merrill had found, after all what other pup could possibly wander this deep into the packs territory without anyone noticing. And he certainly wasn't any of her siblings. Her head tipped to the side as he began speaking in...rhyme? How very odd. When the pup...or Verse as he had called himself stopped his little ditty there Aleu sat quietly for a few moments.
"Why do you speak like that?" She asked him bluntly. Sure she sang with rhyme's but to speak in them just seemed a little too odd for her. Taking a deep breath she figured she might as well introduce herself. After all it was the polite thing to do. "I am Aleutian Ballad, daughter of the Alpha's." She told him standing up nice and straight in doing so.

Verse sighed slightly as the other pup sat their in silence for a few moments - it seemed as though his effort to make a good impression had fallen flat. He was pretty sure it wasn't any fault of his however - he couldn't help it if these other pups weren't artistically inclined now could he. "Well its a poem..." He explained "M parents were very artistic and cultured, all of my siblings had talents they enjoyed. I like poems" He continued with a slight shrug of his shoulders.
His head tipped slightly at her name, Aleutian Ballad - how very interesting and Ballads if he remembered right were a type of song. How pretty, of course just because one had an artistic name didn't mean they had any talents he reminded himself. It was probably better not to get his hope's up. "A very pretty name" He conceded after a few moments. "I met your mom hen Merrill brought me in...she seemed nice"

"If you enjoyed your families talents so much then why aren't you with them anymore?" It was harsh of her to say this but for some reason Aleu just had a hard time being nice with this pup. Normally she was the nice one among her siblings, but not today. Maybe it had something to do with the poem he had said. After all she had been the talented one in the pack until this little brat came in. He was going to try to steal her lime light and she wasn't about to let it happen.
"Look," she began as she circled around the other pup. "I'm the talented one in this pack, you understand. I will not have you stealing the show from me. So you better keep your poems to yourself." She came to a stop in front of Verse again. "My mother is nice."

Verse was more then a little taken aback by the pups comments - what a terrible mean thing to say he thought to himself as he blinked a bit, his tail which had previously been wagging quite merrily crept between his legs and his ears flattened. He was tempted to turn and run back to the den he shared with Merrill as she circled about him. But this thought lasted only a moment.
He was Verse! He wasn't about to let himself get pushed around by a...a...girl of all things! And so by the time she came around to his front again Verse had managed to steel a bit more courage and stared her straight in the eye. "I don't care if you are the alpha's daughter!" He told her "your nothing but a little heathen, nothing at all like your mother and I'll tell my poems to whomever I like!" He challenged her with a slight glint in his eye. Thought she could push him around did she? Well he'd show her he would!

Hey eyes narrowed at the other pup. "You better learn to respect me. I am a higher rank than you!" Okay so that wasn't completely true, they were both pups. But she was the alpha's daughter, and as such she outranked him ever so slightly. "A child does not need to be like it's mother or father." She said taking a step closer to him. "Fine tell your poems to others, but don't be surprised if they prefer to hear my sing than to listen to you." Now she was just asking for trouble if she kept this up. Deep down she cared, but right now this other pup had angered her for some reason and she was not about to back down.

"Oh yeah?" Verse asked her with a haughty look "And what are you going to do if I don't? Beat me up?" He challenged her on the issue of 'respect' . This he knew might get him into trouble with Merrill later - but he couldn't let himself be bullied about now could he? Of course not. "Poems are better then songs" He told her after a few moments - though this wasn't completely true, Verse liked them both. "Poems have more soul behind them, singing can just be a racket sometimes" He continued egging her on to see what would happen.
She couldn't beat him up, he was sure of it - she was just a girl. Girls couldn't beat up boys he was sure of it.

"Maybe I just will!" She said as she raised her body up a bit more. Aleu was not a violent pup at all, but if someone insulted her or her music, well then she wouldn't hold back her anger. And this pup was getting very close to seeing just how violent she could become. "Poems are not better than songs. If anything songs make poems better. It adds a rhythm to it that merely speaking the words cannot give."
She took another step closer to him. He really was pushing his luck with her. Singing can be a racket? Her eyes narrowed and a small growl escaped her. How dare he even suggest that. Songs were beautiful things. They meant everything to Aleu. "Racket? You think they are just racket?" The fur on the back of her neck raised up. Why did Merrill let this little pup stay? He was just causing trouble. "Songs are not racket. They are things of beauty. They take your thoughts and what you see and turn them into someone more than just words. You can put your heart into songs." It was taking every ounce of her will power to not knock the other pup down right here and now.

"I'd like to see you try!" Verse taunted the little pup as she raised herself up, and while something in the back of his mind told him this was not a good idea Verse was far to far gone in hi plan to not let the girl bully him to back down now "Of course songs can be a racket! Haven't you heard a bad singer before?" He paused suddenly as though a though had just floated across his mind and he gave her a lazy look "Are you a bad singer?"
Verse knew he was pushing the other pups buttons - clearly she was quite keen on her songs and Verse couldn't blame her, he liked songs too - though he certainly wasn't going to tell her that. Not at the moment anyways.

Aleu smiled sweetly at his first comment. He clearly thought that she wouldn't be able to do so because she was a girl. Oh she would prove him wrong sooner than later. She was about to answer his question as to whether she had heard a bad singer or not, but then what he said next made her growl. Did he just insinuate that she was a bad singer. That's it!
Lunging forward Aleu went on the attack. No more holding back, he had insulted her one too many times. Her teeth snapped at his face while her paws went for his chest. Oh he would regret the day she crossed him.

Verse was aware that he was testing Aleu, pushing her further and further towards the edge of her patience - but he wasn't fully prepared for her to hit it so soon and let out a loud yelp as she launched herself at him jerking backwards to avoid her teeth though they managed to snag a bit of his ear before he reared back and was bowled over by her paws.
Oh so thats how she wanted to play was it? Verse scrambled to right himself , she might have gotten in the first lick but he was determined to keep her from getting the last and growling with ears flattened he lunged for the scruff of her neck. nasty little pup! He'd come over to say hello and she'd been all snippy - well he'd teach her a lesson!

A small smile crossed her maw as she heard him yelp. Ha! He hadn't been expecting her to attack him. Aleu was regaining her footing when Verse took his turn at attacking. She didn't have much time to move so she lowered herself, feeling him come at the back of her neck she had only one option. Snapping her teeth at his legs he hoped to bite down hard enough to make him lose focus. At the same time she kicked her back legs out towards his. If her teeth happened to miss then she may just be able to knock him off balance. She had been in enough mock fights with her brother to know a couple of good moves. And she refused to hold back if it came down to that.

Verse shook his head harshly once he got hold of her scuff, ha! sill little girl hadn't been ready for his counter attack. She had probably been preening about her first move, growling and dancing about while she tried to bite him Verse soon found that trying to hold onto her scruff wasn't going to work as her teeth grazed his legs one to many times so he let go and jumped backwards just as she tried to kick him with her back leg. Thinking fast verse snapped at her flashing back leg but that was nothing more then a target of opportunity as he rushed in to ram her in the side while she was off balance and hopefully knock her over.

She bit her tongue to stop herself from yelping as Verse took hold of her scruff as gave her a good shake. It didn't hurt all that much, just more surprised he had actually bit her. Aleu spit some fur out of her mouth as Verse jumped away. Seeing him rush forward again Aleu did her best to side step out of his charge. Luckily she got out of the way, for the most part. His head connected with her back hip, which caused her to spin around.
Using the momentum she continued around so that she was again facing him. She had the upper hand right now. His back was momentarily turned to her from his rushing into battle. Muscled pushed her forward as she hurled herself at his back. Claws aiming for both sides of him and teeth snapping down towards his back. Corvus had been doing a patrol of the packs territory when he had heard a few snarls and yips. Immediately he took off in that direction. He may not like pups, but that didn't mean he would allow anything to happen to them. Especially since they were the Alpha's children. His legs carried him quickly through the forest.
Bursting through the trees she saw Aleu in a scrap with some pup he didn't recognize. Immediately he stepped in, catching Aleu by the scruff of the neck as she jumped at the other pup. Lifting her up so she could no longer paw at the other he looked down at the small male pup. "What is going on here?" His voice was a bit muffled from holding onto Aleu but he wasn't about ready to put her down.
