Life's Story: Little is mentioned about her early life. Just that Just that she was adopted by a family that treated her like a servant and cherished their daughter Elizabeth like a princess.
It is unknown HOW Toppan came to be at Shibusen, just that she met her very first friend and weapon, Lucius Vidal, and became smitten with him (who, unfortunately, was infatuated with her sister).
Despite having him in love with her sister, she had still continued to use him as her weapon. Until a certain incident occured with the kishin named 'Mephistopheles' at the Notre Dame Cathedral, which resulted in Vidal's death and Toppan's sudden departure from Shibusen. Earning her the name 'Angel of Death'; one who survived the threshold of life and death when in sleep.
She just simply couldn't deal with losing him. Nor replacing him. So she left and decided to go into the medical field as a nurse. Seeing as she had a very slim chance of getting married and having kids...
Despite having a gift for creating drugs and medicinal cures for certain diseases and common defects, Doctors still refused to acknowledge Jeanne as anything but 'brilliant'.
Her medicinal drugs may have cured her patients, but they revealed bizarre side-effects, such as change in behavior, hallucinations, impaired speech, loss of balance, deformation, etc.
So after getting kicked out of every medical school she entered, she found a job at Shibusen where the Nurse's office saw fit to be her ideal playground...
