Kerrigan can be said to be many things. Strict about her job, easily irked at having a brat for a child, and being a weirdo are some of those things. But one thing not as many people knew to say about her was that she had a huge sweet tooth.
Most of her family had a love for food, and sweets in particular. Both of her siblings could bake like nobody's business. But she, she had been stuck with cooking skills that barely ranged beyond TV dinners, and a taste for confections that only a master craftsman could make.
So, here she was, relaxing and waiting on a delivery of some such treats. Jezebel had been behaving lately, so Kerri didn't have to mind sharing a few with her. Though, the older woman was sort of in the dog house with her younger brother, which was probably why she was ordering comfort food to begin with. Well how was she to know his son was going to run off with some cat boy?

Nathan arrived around 11:30 with a box of handmade and hand-selected truffles. They had taken him one hell of a long time to make and even more work than was necessary, but he wasn't about to complain. These were his most expensive fare, and money was never, ever a bad thing. Think of all those poor schmucks who hated their jobs! He was lucky.
He left Thaddeus in the front seat of his delivery van and the dog watched sadly as he approached the door, taking the sweet-smelling foodstuffs with him. What a strange place to deliver to...
The man raised his hand and knocked, smiling softly. He had had a fairly reasonable amount of sleep last night, so today was by definition a good day.

A little brunette girl with long ringlet curls walked out from behind the building he was waiting at. She spotted the van and wandered over to investigate the dog she saw in the window. Odd as she was, Jezebel did have a soft spot for dogs.
The toddler waved at the animal, smiling and looking rather cute as she looked up at the large delivery truck window.
Upstairs Kerrigan idly realized she probably hadn't specified this was an apartment building when she ordered the stuff. Wandering over to the window, she was lucky enough to spot the truck and Nathan walking to the door to knock. Damn she'd have to get used to living in these odd buildings.
Rushing downstairs, the woman hurriedly opened the door. "Hi, sorry." she greeted him, just a bit out of breath.

Thaddeus tried in vain to sniff the girl through the window, succeeding only in snuffling all over the glass and making quite a mess for Daddy to have to Windex off. Nathan had watched her approach, but his attention turned to his customer almost immediately upon her arrival.
"Yes, hullo!" he smiled, holding out the box, "Twenty-k or 5 dollars, if you please."

"Yeah, just a sec." she agreed, pulling out her wallet to get out the gold. "Sorry about the wait. I'm not used to living in an apartment."
About that time, Jezebel had opened up the door and just reached up to pet the doggy. He seemed nice enough right? And who would bring a rabid dog with them to deliver confections. Or a rabid ice weasel for that matter.
Kerrigan was too absorbed in counting the money to notice her daughter breaking into other people's vehicles. Or really, just getting into them as there was no breaking involved.

Thaddeus was a friendly sort, and he happily lap at the girl's hand before simply allowing her to pet him. Yes, yes, he was the prince! You must adore him! His stub of a tail thumped against the seat upholstery and he gave the child a thank-you snuffle of the hair.

Jezebel smiled and pet the dog, snuggling him a bit. If he was the prince, she was the princess. This was about as cutesy and playful as she got, and petting a puppy - even if it was in someone else's car and letting the heat out of it - was a perfectly acceptable task for a princess to let go for.
About this time Kerrigan looked up. "JEZEBEL! What the hell are you doing?" she snapped, having just handed Nathan the money.
"Petting doggy." the tot responded as if that were totally fine.

"Eegh..." Nathan 'said', running to the car and standing in the open door, "Honey, could you get out please? We don't want anyone getting hurt, okay?"
Of course, Thaddeus wasn't the type to bite. One would be hard-pressing to find even a playful n** since puppyhood. He was, however, a strange dog and Nathan wanted to part in teaching a little girl that it was okay to pet them.

Kerrigan's eye twitched a bit as she set her box of treats down on a nearby table and headed out towards the car. Jezebel looked at Nathan like he was odd. "Doggy is nice. Won't hurt me." she said assuredly before her mother picked her up.
"Haven't I told you not to bother strangers?" she asked the girl, looking kind of annoyed at her. Jezebel looked at her mother coolly as well. Silly mommy, doggy was nice. A lot nicer than that dumb boy she'd tried to make her play with.

"It's okay. It's fine," Nathan nodded, "It's just, yenno. Don't talk to strangers, yadda yadda." Thaddeus still had his leash dangling from his collar, so Nathan simply tugged it and the stout dog rumbled his way out of the van and to the little girl's feet. He snuffled about her shoes, smelling everything she had stepped in in her history of wearing them.
"He's a good boy. Doesn't bite, doesn't bark. He's safe."

Kerrigan sighed, setting Jezebel down so the girl could get back to petting the dog now that she had permission. "I don't mind her petting him but getting into other people's cars for any reason isn't something I'm trying to encourage." she said with a sigh, shaking her head.
Jezebel smiled, feeling she had won the argument with her mother over the safety of the dog, and knelt to pet him.

"I understand entirely," Nathan nodded. Bulldogs weren't the most friendly-looking dogs as it was, and if a constant scowl wasn't going to turn a child off...
Thaddeus, meanwhile, has sat down to enjoy his petting.

"Anyway, nice to meet you and all. I've gotta get back in though." Kerrigan said with another sigh, heading inside to pick up her box of sweets before it got nabbed by someone else.
Jezebel smiled, patting the dog's head. "What's his name?"

What kind of woman left her child unattended with a stranger?! With candy?! Lucky for the little girl, Nathan had no intention of harming her.
"Thaddeus," he replied with a little smile. The dog looked up when his name had been called, but returned to his leisurely posture when he realized he wasn't being called.
"What's your name?"

"I"m Jezebel." the girl said proudly, petting Thaddeus and smiling. "Silly Mommy. She keeps leaving her stuff about. Last week she left some cupcakes she'd bought on the table and people thought they were free and took them."
About that time, Kerrigan had come back out, this time carrying the box securely. "Sorry about that." she said, patting Jezebel's head.
