Derecho was giving his brother a sullen look behind his back. While he wasn't upset really that Raiden had been brought back - he had gotten used to being the only male around to watch over Aleu...well until Meme had shown up with that other pup. Moons they were just out to upsurp him lately. He'd put that other pup..Verse or whatever his name was..into his place later. He spoke funny, Derecho was pretty sure he'd been dropped on his head a few times. There wasn't much he could do about Raiden however, Raiden was his brother and his mother had been ever so glad to see him return. His tail twitched and he considered batting his brother over the head while he wasn't looking...but Aleu would probably see it and tattle on him. He sighed...sibling, what could you do?

Raiden quietly watched Derecho. He noted that his brother seemed to have a sullen look on his face. Was he really that upset that he had finally made it back with their father? Unfortunately he had been gone for too long and didn't really know his brother that well. It seemed a shame really, perhaps the two of them could have been closer. Then again there was still plenty of time for that wasn't there? They would have to catch up soon enough. The pup finally shifted his attention and looked for Aleu. Perhaps his sister would have a much warmer welcome for him. Though he still wasn't sure just how happy she'd be to see him either. Being gone had definitely left him out of the loop some. Perhaps his sister wouldn't be all that pleased to see him either.

Aleu lay hidden in the thick brush watching her two brothers closely. Raiden had recently returned after a long time of being away. And from the look of it Derecho wasn't too happy. She was hoping they would scrap or exchange some nasty words so that she could go running back to their mother. But to her disappointment they seemed to just be sitting there. With a sigh she crawled out from under the brush, giving her fur a shake before padding over to Raiden.
She looked her other brother over carefully, not saying anything, just humming in her typical fashion. After she had finished her 'inspection' of him she went over and sat beside Derecho. For now she would just be the observer between the two and intervene if needed.

Derecho glanced at Aleu as she finally decided to show herself, she was humming - like always and he was vaguely surprised that she hadn't decided to welcome her brother home with another one of her crazy songs. when she didn't say anything and just came to sit beside him Derecho puffed himself up and gave Raiden a smug look, clearly Aleu preferred him. HA! Not even the stories Raden could no doubt tell about here he had been would work. He was sure of it and cast a lordly eye upon his sibling, before giving Aleu an uncharacteristic warm bump with his shoulder.
Since it seemed as though Raiden wouldn't be much of a threat to his established place in the pack Derecho supposed he could at least be civil to Raiden. He was his brother after all. "So..father didn't stay?" He asked after a few moments. "Did he teach you to hunt...Aleu and I have been learning from Merrill..and she's the best.." He continued on his civil attempt soon turning into bragging.

Raiden was happy to see his sister when she finally showed, but his excitement at her arrival was short lived. So, she was picking sides now was she? Fine then. He didn't need his siblings. Perhaps they were just jealous that he'd been the one to get to go with their father. Who knew? In any case they didn't seem to be pleased that he was home and there was really nothing that he could do about it.
"Of course Father taught me how to hunt." The cub snapped at Derecho. Raiden was already fairly upset with them and he wasn't in the mood for his brother to start bragging. Then again...
"Although that's not all that father taught me." He started. This time he was bragging. Raiden wasn't about to make him look like a fool. "Being gone so long we had plenty of time to discuss other things." He didn't say exactly what his father had taught him, not yet. Oh no, he was going to milk this.

Aleu's eyes shifted to Derecho as he gave her that small bump on the shoulder. See this was why she had stayed in the bushed up til now, she really didn't want to take sides. If she sat beside Raiden then Derecho would be mad. And sitting beside Derecho clearly was upsetting to Raiden. She should have just stayed in the bushes, or sat in a neutral spot. And yet at the same time she was glad to have sat beside Derecho, they had grown pretty close in the time Raiden had been missing, even though he did annoyed her from time to time.
Her attention moved back to Raiden as he spoke. She wondered if what he said was the truth or if he was merely making things up to make himself sound better. Raising herself to her paws again she padded over to her brother, circling him. Her humming stopped for a moment so that she could speak. "And what would these other things be brother?" She asked, her tail flicked about, hitting him gently with it as a silent was of saying she was glad to have him home.

Derecho stared at his brother as he snapped at him, insolent little beast! Thinking he could just come back here and try to take over! Well Derecho wasn't going to have any of that...and he'd teach Raiden that too - as soon as Aleu wasn't around so she couldn't run off to tattle on him. Besides now that Aleu had asked Derecho was also interested in what their father might have taught him, not that he was jealous or anything he told himself - he'd clearly been left behind because he was the most capable of looking after everyone.
..Yes that was it he soothed himself with a slight bob of his head and standing with a wag of his tail that might have been either friendly or a challenge he gave his brother a slow smile "Why don't you show us?"

Raiden sat quietly thinking to himself for a moment. Oh yes, he had definitely caught his sibling's interest. Of course he had known that he would. "Well," He started off slowly. "It wasn't just the hunting of course." Raiden said a little smugly. "He also taught me about what it is to be an alpha, all of the smart stuff that you have to know to lead." Okay, so he still had some issues with expanding his vocabulary, but all he really needed was confidence. That was one of the biggest points his father had made about being an Alpha. If anyone saw you falter, regret, or start to rethink your decisions then no one would follow you or trust you. It didn't mean you weren't allowed to admit your mistakes, you just had to be confident in doing so.
The pup was about to share this tidbit of information with his siblings when he stopped. Why should he tell Derecho? He knew that his brother would most likely be his biggest competition and he wasn't about to go letting him in on all of his secrets. No, he'd have to be careful with him. Perhaps he shouldn't have opened his mouth afterall. "It's all rather boring really," He continued on rather dryly. "I doubt you'd really want to hear it."

Aleu continued to slowly circle her long lost brother. She had truly missed him, and her sister and father. It did make her wonder though why Raiden returned without them. Was there a reason behind it? Or had he just returned on his own? Humming a merry tune as she stopped beside him she nipped at his ear quickly, playfully and took a step back. "Mother has taught us things about what it is to be an Alpha. And Merrill has spent much time teaching us as well." She told him before taking a few more steps away and lowering herself onto her haunches.
"I wonder..." She said after a few moments pause. "If what mother and Merrill taught us, is the same as what father has taught you." Then she looked over at Derecho. "Wouldn't you like to know that Derecho?" Oh now she was just trying to get them to bicker about something, anything. Aleu figured that this subject would be the one to make them fight, then she could run off and tell mother about it.

"Of course it wasn't!" Derecho snapped at Aleu as she made such a silly suggestion "WE got to see how it worked in a real pack afterall" He continued with a smug tone to his voice. "I'm sure dad is a good teacher and obviously he's a good Alpha - but hearing him talking about it just wouldn't compare to SEEING Mom and Aunt Meme put it into play" He concluded with a challenge in his voice.
It made perfect sense to him really, obviously Raiden and Tempest might have seen more of the world...but he and Aleu knew the pack lands and the pack far better, and the pack to Derecho's mind was by far the most important.

Raiden had to suppress a slight growl. He really was starting to like his brother less and less. The cub was also becoming increasingly annoyed by his sister. He knew she was just looking for them to start a fight so she could go tattle, well he wasn't about to, at least not yet. If Derecho wanted to fight then so be it. Raiden would end it, being on his own for so long he had learned things that his siblings hadn't.
It wasn't that he was being cowardly, just responsible. He needed to be more responsible. He just hoped that it wasn't too late. Perhaps he should just keep his teachings to himself. Pretend that his brother was truly better then him. Yes, then when Aleu left he could take care of this menace.
Raiden glared at his brother, his tail twitching slightly. "Fine, so you've learned everything within the safety of this pack." He snapped at his brother and even a little at his sister. "That doesn't mean you'd survive without it. Try it sometime." He was starting to get a little fed up with his brother's games and was tired of playing them.

Aleu's humming came to an abrupt stop as Raiden snapped. She had expected for him to perhaps fight with Derecho, brothers fought over everything, but the fact that he had shown even the tiniest amount of anger at her hurt more than anything. She knew she shouldn't have been trying to get Raiden and Derecho to fight, but she just needed something to tell their mother. Her maw dropped into a bit of a frown. Had Raiden changed that much since he was gone?
If their mother was here she would have looked to her for comfort, but she wasn't so Aleu raised herself to her feet and padded over to Derecho. Sitting down close to him she let out a very quiet whine. Aleu was normally a pretty happy puppy, but this little snap from her brother had broke that happiness in one fell swoop. At least Derecho would never do anything to deliberately hurt Aleu. Sure he was mean to her every now and then, but in a more protective big brother type of way, which she didn't mind most of the time.

Derecho's eyes narrowed, not at Raiden's words which he would have brushed off with another retort and look of disdain - sure he felt sorry for Raiden having gone through what he did but the other pup hadn't exactly been forthcoming since his return and yeah maybe Derecho had been a bit jealous over the time he'd gotten to spend with their father. Not that he'd necessarily trade it for the time he'd spent with Merrill, Aleu and Mom...but hey Jealousy wasn't always logical now as it.
In any case no it certainly wasn't Raidens words that got him, but the way he snapped at Aleu and her soft little hurt whine, thats what made his lips lift in a quiet snarl and his hackles raise until his fur stood on end, standing he insinuated himself between Aleu and Raiden with a fierce look in his eyes "Do NOT....treat her like that" He warned his brother in a low voice.

Raiden immediately felt guilty as his sister let out a little whine. He hadn't really meant to snap at her. He had just gone through quite a bit and what with Derecho's bragging he hadn't thought it through that well. Sure his sister could be a little annoying but he hadn't honestly meant to upset her.
At Derecho's words the little cub tucked his tail between his legs. Wait, no. He was not going to be a coward. Yes he had upset his sister but the words weren't meant for Aleu, they were meant for Derecho. Just as quickly as he had tucked his tail he moved it and stood up a little taller. He would apologize to his sister later, yes she was upset right now but she would get over it.
Instead, Raiden took a step closer to his brother. If Aleu wanted a fight she might just get it. "You know those words were meant for you brother." He growled back at the other cub.

Aleu watched as her brother stood up and placed himself between her and their brother to protect her. Her little heart felt such joy at his move. This was what a brother should be, protective over their siblings, not lashing out at them. Though now she did not wish to see them fight. In truth she never wanted them to fight, she had just wanted them to be a big happy family again. Though it didn't look like this would happen. When Raiden stood up to Derecho she knew she had to try to stop what had previous been her reason for egging them on.
Standing herself, she stepped forward, pushing her shoulder into Derecho. "No, don't do this." She whispered to him. "It isn't worth it." Her eyes fell upon Raiden and her frown remained. Even if the words had have been meant for Derecho and not her they had stung deep. Turning her eyes away, then her body Aleu butted her head against Derecho and began to walk away. "I think I need to be alone for a while." She told them before trotting into the trees. If they fought fine, but she didn't want to be there to see. Though she hoped that Derecho would do the right thing and leave well enough alone.
