I'm a Junior in High school and am planning to join the Marines right out of high school. I turn 17 on the 17th of Feb. I am 5'11 and only weight around 150 pounds but I am very active. I've4 started to run a mile a day, or at least try unless I for some reason get extremely tired lol. So I was wanting to know if the Marines are right for me.
I ask this because when I think of a Marine I picture big men serving. I know that's just what people think of the Marines, but I wanted advise from people currently serving.

Well, go to a poole meeting. Call your local recruiter and talk, then go to the functions. I think they're every Thursday (but don't count on my words). You can do poole meetings if you're not even a recruit yet. In fact, I went to the first one yesterday.
I HURT EVERYWHERE. I stood out in the cold and worked my a** off. Then I ran and failed miserably because I'm outta shape and got yelled at by about 3 guys at one time.
But, I'm proud I did it. No matter how tired, in pain, and exhausted I am right now, I made it. Just keep it up and go next week to try it out. Try it before you buy it they say. So just remember what you're getting yourself into.
This is probably the hardest branch you can get into. But one of the proudest, so don't let it scare you away. Just remember your biggest challenge will be the mental part. No one is ever ready. So make sure this is what you REALLY want to do.
And remember for those poole meetings, buy a ton of Icy Hot cream and take a hot bath afterwards. Its going to hurt like a b***h in the morning, quite honestly. But hey, gotta do it. Good luck!
