Avalee loved the winter.

Perhaps it was more of her mother's influence, since her father loved spring and summer, and her brother was more partial to autumn... but the sunlight reflecting off of the snow had a more pristine beauty to it than the most elegant flowers in bloom. At least, she thought so before. But in the most recent months, the shimmering of fresh powder seemed to dull in her eyes, the winter chill more biting than she had felt before, the most breathtaking first snow appearing only as a hindrance to her vision now more than a spectacle of beauty. She had begun to forget what had driven her so determinedly to leave her family, to forsake the only home she had ever known... perhaps it was selfish, but it seemed so unimportant a cause now- to find a cure, some sort of solace for her wayward brother, who had not wanted her help to begin with.

She was lonely.

She had always enjoyed her moments of solitude; rare though they were, her family was quite reserved, and had most of the time left her to her own devices- but they had always been there, their presence a warm comfort to her senses, even as they lurked in the corners of her peripheral vision, some distance away. Now, she had had her fill of daydreaming, of staring up into the sky and thinking of what had been, what might be, and what will be, of observing the serene beauty of the sky and clouds above, something that she had never before taken for granted, despite its constant presence. Now, it was simply an empty sky, and the feeling of solitude became dark and overbearing, rather than peaceful and serene. Her stares became melancholic, much like her mother's once were, a more subdued expression became the mask she wore, rather than her dream-like smile.

Until someone had stumbled upon her misery.

At first, she hadn't thought to approach him, only briefly glanced at his passing form and dismissed him just as easily- there were few that would care to encroach upon her silent, immobile frame, and she had no energy to initiate such an exchange when she had no faith in it ending in anything other than more loneliness. Instead, it was he who approached her, asking in quiet baritones why she looked so sad. She had only offered him a sad smile and told him that the winter's beauty had disappeared, had stolen the warm cheer from her heart in its bitter cold.

He had looked surprised at first, but asked her then if she did not see the picturesque beauty of the scene before her, that it's beauty had not gone anywhere, that it was only her eyes that had lost their sight for it. Why then, he asked, would she not try to reach for it again?

She had only been able to stare for a few moments, lost in her own tumultous emotions of having been brought to the brink of the darkness that her brother was so perpetually lost in and just as quickly yanked back, but had slowly, hesitantly, offered him a gentle smile- a genuine one- and asked for his name.

Spellbound, he had said, offering a soft smile of his own in return.

I am Avalee, she had offered back to him with a grateful dip of her ebony muzzle, just a tiny glimmer of light returning to the depths of her oceanic hues as she watched him, inwardly reveling at the winter beauty he had seemed to carry with him, allowing it to spread beyond the vestiges of her outermost vision once more, though the process was slow and arduous.

And I am in your debt.

Although her steps were not as light-hearted and reverent as they had been some months before, they were significantly lighter than the heavy, oppressive pace she had adopted in previous weeks. No longer did a pensive frown- so unsuiting of her petite features, he had commented once- adorn her face, but a small smile reminiscent of those she wore in lighter times. Company, it seemed, had done her more good than she had initially realized, though she perhaps would have been hard-pressed to admit that it hadn't just been any company that could have snapped her out of her slight depression.

Although they had not spent an abundance of time together, Avalee could easily admit to wishing him as a friend, rather than a one-time acquaintance. He was a joy to talk to, understood her poetic and sometimes vague and cryptic words- he even seemed able to keep up with her abrupt changes of subject when she would drift off into her daydream-like state. And even in periods of silence, he was simply a steady, warm presence, able to banish her loneliness simply by being near.

She certainly owed him a debt, though exactly how she could even think to pay it off she had no inkling.

Today found her wandering the snowy landscape under the shining sun, trodding the familiar steps that she had walked a few days prior in wishfulness to recapture the faint sense of serenity that this place had been able to give her only days ago. Coincidentally, it had been here that she had stumbled upon Spellbound- or rather, he had stumbled upon her- but surely there was more significance to be found here than simply his company.

Somehow, the sun's glow just didn't seem quite as bright.

Despite being a grown stallion, Spellbound still got chided by his mother when he was gone from the herdlands for too long. The mountainous terrain Spellbound called home was on high alert – their alpha mare had been attacked brutally by skinwalkers and descent between their protector stallion and his son had sent little shivers of doubt through the once steadfast herd. Of course Spellbound stayed out of it – and wasn’t willing or wanting to leave. But he was spending more time away from home then usual, and he had began to realize why.

Spellbound enjoyed meeting many new Soquili, but there was one in particular that lingered with his thoughts more than others. And everytime he went out, he found himself circling over the same meadow, scanning the countryside for that shimmering silver beauty…

Left to her own devices, Avalee could easily stare distantly into the clouds for hours on end, letting her mind wander through insignificant things, wondering on what had been and what could be- though she was wont to focusing especially on what had recently been, and what more immediately could be. It wasn't a big surprise that a violet stallion was present in a number of these thoughts, but she did also dwell quite a bit on her brother's whearabouts, and how the rest of her family might be faring.

She did worry about her sister, too... Iariana tended to wander off by herself far more than Avalee dared to venture away from their homelands, but since Iari took more after their mother's warrior blood, she wasn't distraught about her solitary ways. Still... she did wonder.

Though her thoughts were taking her further up through the clouds where her head was familiar with being, Avalee was not unobservant enough to miss the shadow that passed over her briefly, head tilting upwards as one delicate wing extended to shield her eyes against the sun's glare.

A smile grew upon those silver features as icy blue hues brightened with the sun's light, recognizing the indigo and violet tones that shone in the daylight, the shape of his own butterfly wings standing out starkly, silouhetted against the sun's harsh rays. It wasn't a surprise he had found her here- after all, she had let slip that she enjoyed allowing her thoughts to wander in places like this one- but it warmed her heart to think he might have deliberately sought her out. This was speculation, of course, but it was a pleasing thought.

Raising her nose to the sky, Avalee let loose a feminine nicker, hoping to catch his attention from the wind that was undoubtedly rushing past his ears.
