 There were kits in the camp again... but not like Redwing had expected. First of all, it was the middle of leafbare. Not the best time to raise a litter. Secondly, there were her own kits.
She didn't really intend for this to happen. She did have feelings for the orange tom, after all, but it seemed to be fading. She tried to convince herself that she still felt the same way at times, but then she'd feel guilty about it.
Trying not to think about it anymore, she focused her attention on the two small bundles of fur outside of the nursery. One was dark red like her-- Cricketkit, her only daughter. The other was orange, like his father, but with her white patches. Beetlekit even had his fathers longer thicker fur. He older son, Thistlethorn, looked the most like Firestone, but he still had her thinner fur. All three had her eyes, though.
She sighed. At least everything was still going as planned. Well, as planned as she could manage.

BeetleKit launched himself at his sister once more. "Ah! CricketKit! you need to be more... squishy...." The snow was positively delightful. He wasn't cold at all but he had heard the others talking about the cold n** in the air. He pluffed up his fur before he looked back at his mother. "Redwing!" He squeaked "Come play with us!" He pawed at a clump of snow and rolled onto his back. He had looked at a lot of the toms in the clan... at least the ones he could see from the nursery and a lot of them didn't fit the part. He knew Thistlethorn was along the right color to be his dad... but... he was his brother... so~ that meant they had the same father.
BeetleKit didn't know why it mattered to him so much but it did. He needed to know his father!

 "I can't help that," Cricketkit responded to her brother, "I'm a cat, not a worm." She kicked some snow back with her hind legs while leaping towards Beetlekit. She stopped before reaching him. He had rolled onto his back, and looked deep in thought. "What'cha doing?" she asked him, curiously.---------- The dark red queen rose to her feet, and walked over to her kits. She stretched her back, since she was used to just lying around all day now. She didn't have much of a break between litters, after all. "What are you two doing?" she asked with a little purr of amusement in her voice.

BeetleKit shook himself from his thoughts. "I was thinking..." he pawed at his sister until his mother walked over. "We are playing..." he reached out his paw and taped her paw. "Your it!" Giggling he ran past his sister through the snow. Poofing his fur out he plopped in a big pile of snow and nearly buried himself
