For sure! It's got benefits, but it's super expensive, and sometimes I really don't see why.

Organic food is supposedly healthier and better, especially for cancer patients or something. They contain more nutrients and less toxins from fertilisers and pesticides. Hospitals and sometimes schools grow their own vegetables (in the organic way) for their own people to consume.

It's expensive yes, and some times the yield is not that good (eg smaller apples, bananas) but it is better for both the environment and you. Why not try growing some vegetables or fruits yourself?
Too bad the weather here is unsuitable, or strawberries will be good as a homegrown plant (provided you keep it in the house or it'll probably be stolen when ripe...) ^_^

It's the way it's grown that matters, but I think it's still good to encourage people to stop using so much fertilizers and pesticides and so forth. It hamrs the Earth, and greed of farmers usually cause them to disregard the Earth more than usual. By increasing the price of the organic food (from average non-organic food prices to current organic food prices) we can encourage farmers in a way to stop polluting the Earth.

I love organic food. The chemicals that I know are in most things as well as the ones I don't know about make me paranoid about what I'm eating. Unfortunately organic food is expensive so I cant really afford to be picky. If I had the money to eat organic I totally would though! XD

Though organic is the most suitable for human than others, there's some difficulties for it.

1. Organic plants are weaker than inorganic. They cannot fight the diseases and insects like inorganic.
2. Land areas, to produce the same amount as inorganic, they have to grow plants in much larger fields.
3. Environmental issues, though inorganic destroy the environment with fertilizers, organic also destroy it by using larger fields (they lead deforestation) and they consume much oil (but it won't if you don't use machine)

Nonetheless, no need to say that organic foods are the best for us. Why don't municipals grow fruit plants (like orange, apple) in the city and rich people or people who have yard or garden grow these plants to eat. It can reduce oil used in transportation, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and overweight. People living in apartment also should grow plants in pots.

1 while what you say is true greenhouses are great for solveing this problem.
2if you stop useing the land used for inorganic plants and build greenhouses on them you should be able to produce the same amount because you can have shelves and they will allow you to grow on the shelf and some below on the floor.
3the use of greenhouses would make it impossable to use machines therefore would make it so people had to pick the plants by hand thus also makeing more jobs. the carbon dioxide issues could be solved by useing hybrids or trucks made to run on electicitcy alone.

I do agree it that orgianic foods are better for us and it would also be better if people tryed to or did grow organic plants by themsleves but, Most people don't have the time or if they do do not have the place.

On this same topic, here is a really awesome site that talks about how to grow your own gardens if you are limited on space. http://www.yougrowgirl.com/ There are a plethora of options for gardeners who don't have a lot of space. Growing your own organic food is always possible and almost always practical, especially when considering the price of organic produce in the supermarket. It's really best to buy directly from farmers if that's an option for you.

I love organic food, it always taste better. That is, if you simply boil the vegetables, organic products has a sweeter taste to it. My family had a small garden where we plant organic vegetables, but unfortunately we had to sell that house when we had to move.

In my country, they have a store where the store managers work with certain farmers, by promising to buy all products they produce. Of course the products in this store costs higher than other stores, but there's a guarantee that all products you buy are organic. ^^

The store you're talking about sounds almost like a co-operative, except co-ops are usually much cheaper than other stores and almost always have exclusively organic, depending on the community that own them. smile
