Down the corridor, around the corner, over the heads, dive, swoop between the legs; this was fun! He didn't know this place, so he needed to get to know it, and he had to look for... Someone. He communicated his confusion to the other small ones, the big one, and the wingless one; what was he supposed to be doing again?

L'thor sighed and paused in the act of oiling a rough spot on Raith's hide. Veyes. Blue eyes, very long brown hair, this tall, fit but not bulky; look for him! Shaking his head, the lean rider shared a smile with his mouth as she and the other flitts also repeated the message to River. Sometimes he really wasn't very bright... or perhaps more to the point sometime he got too caught up in having fun to recall what it was he'd been told to do. When he focused, he was as clever as any blue flitt, but getting him to focus was tough work.

Right! Now he knew what he was doing again! River cheeped happily and took another turn at random; exploring and looking! Some time and some turns and discoveries later, he spotted the long hair amd the right height and build; here he was! Giving a loud chirrup of greeting, River swooped towards his target, feet extended to alight on his shoulder...

Veyes actually was a happier person at this Weyr than he had been at Ista. It was colder but he didn't mind so much. People didn't have an preconceived notion about his past at Ista so things seemed to go much smoother than life had been back there. So his daily chores seemed to go easier. Not that he ever hated chores in the first place but it was much easier to do them when people seemed pleasant.

So he he was, carrying back the last load of laundry wondering whose sheets he had folded from the mountain of those that had been dried. Leaving them in the spot he had been requested, he finally was free of his chores and actually could pursue his own adventure. Today...well today he'd go over things he had learned from L'thor. It was starting to be second nature to make straps; although he wished he could have hung around Con's bronze just a bit more. Yes, he missed his friend dearly. However, he kept focusing on the golden ring. One day, he would have his own dragon friend...one day.

However, back to the lessons....He started repeating anatomy parts envisioning where they were on the dragon's body and aliments to look for. Even if he couldn't heal things like that, it was smart to know when your dragon looked sick and who to call. Every day, like clockwork after chores, he pursued these things...although at times, he wondered how his future was going to shape up.

But these thoughts weren't long lived as he turned a corned and suddenly felt a weight on his shoulder. Looking to the side, he realized who it was! "River!? Oh wow! You made it!" He reached up carefully and stroked the blue just long the neck. "I bet L'thor's pleased as can be!" He smiled brightly at the thought then realized that River probably was sent to get him. "Oh so we should go to L'thor?" He turned and walked outside only then realizing that he'd never be able to get up to L'thor's weyr in this Weyr. A stupid design flaw to be certain and his mind thought of many ways to solve the problem wondering if a big rope and pulley might be possible. "So River, can you..mmm...Tell L'thor I am down here?"

He found him! He was the smartest! he was the best! River cheeped happily, ignoring the waves of disagreement that came from the other flitts; the might think he was a dummy, but he'd found the long-haired boy!

L'thor grinned and shook his head as the other three reappeared one by one in his weyr; they were all wonderful, he told them, extra treats for everyone later. This seemed to settle matters between them, and still smiling broadly L'thor moved out onto the ledge where Raith was awaiting him. Not planning to do anything acrobatic he mounted up without bothering to fetch riding straps, and once he was settled he nudged his lifemate to take off.

Raith rumbled soflty in response before stepping carefully off the ledge. She could already make Veyes out, she shared the image with her rider, and so she called a greeting to him as they spiralled slowly downwards. Rust and Dusk remained with them, perched on L'thor's shoulders, but Dancer rushed on ahead. When he was around eye level with Veyes, he started doing loop-the-loops and similar tricks in mid air, cheeping happily as he did so. He had no idea who this person was, but he liked everyone, and the big green and his person liked this person, so he was extra nice and worth a very good dance!

Before long, Raith touched down lightly in the weyrbowl, and L'thor sprung lightly from her back to the ground. "Hi there Veyes!" he called. "Look who's back!"

Veyes grinned as River cheeped and continued to give him all sorts of affectionate scritches while standing in the bowl. He had to wonder if the others had come. L'thor had sure been....lonely with out them. Well not the same way that he would have been without Raith but more like a parent without his kids.

But as he fussed over the flit, he could see a glimmer of green from above. That green he knew so very well - Raith. Maybe River was smarter than he sometimes let on. He waved with the free hand at Raith as she greeted him from above. His smile broadened fully as he spotted Dancer closing in on him doing aerial acrobatics. It was great to see L'thor's family finally come together. The flits seemed so happy now and that made the world a much better place indeed.

"I see L'thor! You're boys have come home. About time too!" he laughed and fished around in his pocket for a small piece of jerky to give to River for being such a smart boy today. "I think they missed you, Flitman." he teased and winked at Raith.

He was certainly quite happy for L'thor because the man was almost ansty when flits showed themselves around him. Veyes knew L'thor hoped very often that they'd come to him from Ista. Sometimes Veyes wished he were a flit too so he could imagine opening out of an egg and becoming a part of L'thor's family. It was a nice dream that sometimes helped him escape the other awkward feelings that had happened between them.

But overall, their relationship as mentor and student was a good one and that is what he was the most thankful for right now. "Sooo...do they like your new weyr and have they figured out where the kitchen is yet?" He kept grinning because he knew that these boys would get L'thor into trouble!

Yes! River was smart! He was lovely too! To prove his point, he hopped off Veyes' shoulder and fluttered over to land on Raith, inviting the other firelizards to share his piece of meat.

L'thor winced slightly as Dusk launched off his shoulder at high speed, snorting and shaking his head as the large blue rushed to be in on the mini-feast. "I've missed them too, even if they do perforate me when they're in a rush! Never see Dusk move so fast as when he thinks he might miss out on a bite to eat otherwise."

Dusk cheeped indistinctly as he gulped down his share of the jerky; of course! Missing food was bad, very bad! He might starve if he missed food!

"Well, you certainly haven't been starving in my absence," L'thor said to the dark blue with a grin. "Look at you, still fat as butter. I do spoil you." He supposed they must have been scavenging from the kitchens, and begging from anyone who looked sympathetic or something. Still, whatever they'd been doing it had been working.

"Flitts seem more common around here though," L'thor went on, turning back to Veyes with a grin. "I'm not sure I can keep my title of crazy flitt man when that girl who Impressed the gold at the last clutch has five firelizards. One of each colour, naturally!" He wouldn't mind having one more, two at most. A pair of greens would be quite nice... but no, when he next got hold of an egg it would go to Veyes, about time the lad had one of his own.

"No they've not been starving. In fact, looks like they must have found someone to feed them regularly. Spoiled fat flits." He said with a laugh, "I'm surprised they came all this way. There benefactor must have stopped giving them food." He had to tease L'thor quite a bit now that they had returned. Because the man was down right moppy at times without them.

"Yeah, they do seem more common but so far no luck for me. Ah well, just the same as every other day so I ain't complaining. I'm used to it by now." he paused for a moment and thought about it. "You're right, I've seen that gold rider with a lot of flitts but I've not really talked to her. You know, people like that don't have time for people like me." At least, that had been his experience in Ista and the thought followed him here as well. But he learned to live with it for the most part considering that one day things could change and he'd be a rider too.

Those dreams caused him to stare at the flitts for awhile just visualizing what the possibilities were for him. No bronzes...more than likely...so maybe a green, blue, or brown. Mm, he'd take any color really...as his mind soared to the skies on the back of an every changing colored dragon of his dreams.

"So you want to go flying today? Or do something fun with the boys?" He glanced to the happy flitts feasting on his jerky. "I've got some time if you do. They've been giving me so many different jobs that sometimes I get more free time than I ever did at Ista. Probably because I didn't tell them here I can butcher. " He grinned just a little having gotten smarter about not letting himself be assigned the same repetitive task. Even if he were good at the job he didn't want to forever be doing it same thing over and over again.

"Sounds likely," L'thor grinned, "nothing but hunger could drive the beggars all the way up here!" Perhaps they had gone to find V'kain, and he had directed them here; his friend hadn't seen any sign of them last he'd visited but that had been some time ago now... He should visit again. It was good that he was settling here, but he didn't want to forget his old friends.

"I could go for a fly," L'thor grinned and nodded. "Raith and I could use the exercise; most of our wing drill today was talking time, necessary for organization and admin, but not much good for stretching the wings! We'll need to pop back up the the weyr to get harnesses and gear though, I think that old jacket of mine should still fit you and I've got spare goggles too."

If Veyes was coming for a proper fly, then he was going to be properly kitted out. Here even more than at Ista, it got pretty sharding cold up in the skies, especially when you were going as fast as he planned to!

Now that was what he liked to hear! Flying!!! It was thrilling to hear and he was really ready to go but L'thor was right, he needed gear of some sort especially here. It was much colder than Ista! He grinned eagerly and looked up at Raith, "Want to go flying, Beautiful??" He winked at the dragon because well he knew how much she liked to be pampered.

He probably was as bouncy as the flits about now and well he moved closer to Raith in his excitement. "It's been awhile since I've had a good flight! Oh man, what if that jacket doesn't fit." His mind started coming up with immediate solutions from blankets tie around his body to many layers of shirts plus his candidate robes.. either way he wanted to F...L...Y!

"It ought to fit," L'thor looked him up and down with a grin, "you're not taller than me yet, though I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out that way. Come on then love, let us up!"

Raith gave a draconic grin and lowered her stance to allow the two men to climb aboard. Of course she wanted to go flying, and of course she loved being called beautiful! As Veyes climbed into place, she crooned happily at him; he was a nice boy, she hoped he found his lifemate soon.

"Right," L'thor patted the sleek green neck beneath him, echoing her sentiments wholeheartedly, "hold on then!" He was confident enough in Veyes and Raith both not to worry about the lack of straps just for a trip up to the weyr. He wouldn't want to go any further than that with a passenger unsecured, but this much should be just fine. If not, well that's what Raith's reflexes were for.

Raith snorted as she hopped lightly into the air; as if she would let either of them fall off! Chuckling internally, she climbed slowly up to her ledge and landed with her usual grace before dipping her shoulder to let her passengers climb down again.

"Alright then!" L'thor sprang to the ground and hurried into his weyr. Moving quickly to the back wall, he located the alcove which contained his spare riding gear and grabbed the jacket and goggles before moving back along the side wall to grab his regular gear. "Here you are," he passed the spares over to Veyes, "let's get kitted up and then go!"

Veyes glanced down at himself. No, he wasn't taller than L'thor yet but every year that passed seemed to hint that it might possibly happen. He almost cheered when he climbed up on to Raith to ride up to the weyr. Of course, this wasn't enough flying for him yet but more was to come. Either way, it was a start!

He grinned as she crooned and he knew he hit the right notes with her. It was easier to do that with Raith than L'thor at times. He wondered how he'd feel if he ever got lucky enough to find his lifemate. So he held on tight as the flew higher lost in his dreams yet again.

Once they arrived, Veyes popped of her back so used to her patterns that it was easy to judge when and what to do. Thankfully, with all the lessons L'thor had been giving him over time, he pretty much knew what to do...with Raith anyway. He followed L'thor in and took the gear as it was given to him and started pulling it on. "Yeah! It still fits!" For that he was thankful considering he had worn this old set often enough at Ista.

Last thing he put into place was the goggles, "Well how do I look?" he grinned at L'thor. "Almost flight worthy?" He was ready as ever in his opinion but he had to ask. One day, he should save up to by his own gear...however, marks as a candidate were always sparse to say the least.

L'thor looked his protegee up and down carefully before giving an approving nod. "Yes, you look ready for some action to me; let's go!" So saying, he vaulted onto Raith's back almost before she'd had a chance to duck for him. This stunt caused L'thor to chuckle mischievously, and Raith to give a long suffering though affectionate sigh. As she turned her head to Veyes, a brighter shade of blue whirled around her calm eyes; perhaps she was doing the dragon equivalent of rolling them.

"Oh hush," L'thor grinned although his dragon hadn't spoken, "you know you wouldn't love me as much if I were less passionate and impulsive!" Still grinning, the rider strapped himself into place and waited for Veyes to follow suit. This was going to be good fun.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 11, 2010 2:25 pm

Veyes followed L'thor to Raith and smirked as L'thor pulled a stunt that he could tell by Raith's reaction left her wondering what she should do with the man. What a problem child he was at times! "He's sure a handful isn't he Raith?" Veyes grinned up at the blue eyes and dutifully waited for the right time to crawl up to her back.

He strapped himself in and checked everything twice, "You know she'd probably swat your a** if she were a human. You're trouble, L'thor!" He relaxed and took another breath, "Ok. I'm all secure. So ready when you are." He had gotten good at strapping in. It was almost like second nature now when getting on a dragon. He felt good about these accomplishments even though his future hopes for a lifemate seemed far and distance at times.
He wondered if the soul of that dragon was just waiting for something particular before it took on egg form.

His mind drifted to an imaginary land filled with tiny dragon souls just waiting to be sucked into the eggs in the world beyond but in the mean time, they frolicked playfully in the skies without humans. It was a nature state of being in that land of souls.

Sometimes those ideas whisked him away completely. How he could see himself standing just at the edge of those fields hoping one of these souls would take notice of him. He really didn't care what color chose him. He'd even take a bronze or gold if one of them were confused enough to pick him.

That brought another vision of tiny dragon souls all lining up from green to gold. What Luck to view them all...Yes, he was far from this world and only when Raith's wings took to the skies did he return.

"Sharding good job she'd a dragon then, eh?" L'thor grinned. "Off we go!"

"Don't forget, Mine," Raith unfurled her wings, "that I am capable of shoving you in the lake if I feel like it, with all your clothes on and everything. Still, off we go!" Grinning to herself at L'thor's laughter, the sleek green sprung from the ledge and hurled herself into the sky like an arrow loosed from a bow. Poetry in motion. Yes. It was good to be a green. Giving a bugle of joy, the deeply coloured dragon shot onward.
