"Introduction"For some, Hallowe'en 2009 passed like any other. For most, the holiday took on a very different meaning. It became a fight for survival, or for dominance - depending on whose side you were on. In a few short days, Gaia was split into two - two very different, opposing factions. Chaos and order, good and evil. The balance of the world was ripped to shreds. What was meant to be a festive occassion saw bloodshed. Heartache. Misery. Suffering. It was all as he had planned it.For the majority, life soon reverted back to normal. But for the tiny minority - no more than a handful of souls - life would never be the same again. This is their story.

As you may already know, it was my intention after the end of the War to put together a comic based on the collaborative efforts of our best artists here at the Order. You can read all about my initial effort here, where I lay out what I wanted to achieve from it. Lorika This project is to create a retelling of the end of the Halloween event based on our own activities. The outcome is basically the same, but there are a few differences: 1. Heavy insertion of people from the Intelligent Resistance thread. And I mean HEAVY, you guys are popping up everywhere! 2. Increased character development for Overseer and Sentinel. 3. Less stupidity. 4. Stage setting for the Benevolent Order roleplay. The fact is that after Demonbusters, a majority of us who had banded together during the war were dissatisfied with what we saw as a cop-out that didn't appreciate all the hard work we'd done. I wanted to right that wrong. Unfortunately, while the response to the collab was phenomenal, the months dragged on with no sign of development... it was getting late. I could see the first event approaching on the horizon and still no Introduction! So just before Christmas I called it off and made a poll to decide its fate. ...Hey, last time I checked the novelisation was way in the lead! wdf... well, ish too late now! *SCREWS POPULAR DEMAND???* =DIt was through the support of the guildies in this poll that I decided to turn the comic into prose.
I'd become fond of the idea of writing it all down in the days leading up to the comic's demise. At the same time... I was reluctant, as it is such a hefty job. However, I believe it may be worth it. In this format there's much more room for development and scene setting, and whereas I'd been afraid of asking too much of the collaborators I know my own limits and where I can push them. I think this form will allow me to explore characters and themes to their fullest, whereas the comic was planned overall to please and amuse the old members of the IRT. If you take a look at the script, linked further down, you'll see as many inside jokes and active members of the thread were crammed in as possible. However, I did forget certain people, and this is also why I wanted to change things up - if I was going to include people it seemed like a half-assed job not to include everyone! Which is why I feel a bit better about imposing the restrictions you'll see in the Characters section further down - limits, fine, no limits and leaving things out - not good.
As you can probably see from this thread in and of itself, the novelisation is going to have a darker, more realistic feel to it that only came through in certain instances during the comic. It's going to provide the background for After The End - everything that happens in here is 100% ATE canon. In a way I'm glad I've waited so long, because I feel like I have a much better idea of how things should be after so many weeks developing the roleplay. I'd like to include all rp characters present in ATE if possible, which I didn't manage to do in the comic.
I've planned the novelisation to span seven chapters, inclusive of a prologue and an epilogue. However, depending on the response I get or how things go when I'm writing it, it may be extended... which is why I have so many reserved posts. For now, however, this is how it will be. In a similar manner to the comic, it will begin in the "present" - which here is immediately following the completion of the Temple's reconstruction - and then flash back to the war, before concluding in the present. Whereas in Earth time the war only lasted around a week, much more time passed on Gaia. I believe that around four months passed as the two cults built up their forces before clashing in a final battle and being rent asunder again. The story will chronicle from pre-beginning to end the activities of the Order's most prominent members. They're prominent because, as you will see, only they stuck around after life went back to normal for the rest of the world. It will set the stage for ATE, and likewise all Events in the future will be titled in a similar manner and perhaps novelised themselves if necessary, like the opening and closing of chapters. Hopefully we can establish a format that will last the whole rp...! I hope these sections have been sufficient in explaining what I'm trying and going to do - if you have any questions or feel like I've missed things out with my tired brain syndrome (TBS), do come and participate in the discussion and let me know! ~~~~~~~~~ Status:Doing:

Comic
The comic was meant to be all the things I've laid out above - a more satisfying ending for Demonbusters with plenty of participation by us, the denizens of the IRT. It was meant to be more satisfying, but also lighthearted. Reading it back now with the new vision I have in mind I feel rather embarrassed at its silliness...! Still, perhaps you'll all enjoy it. The original script can now be found here.~~~~~~~~ The initial response to the call for artists was truly phenomenal and I was so pleased and heartened by the enthusiasm! However, by the end I'd only received four pages. I was then submitted a late one, making five, and have now pieced my own sketches together for my own page to make six. So, without further ado, here are the finished pages in chronological order! [x] [x] [x] [x] [x] [x]Artists:Pages 2 and 4: Raining_StardustPage 5: Me >3>; It's just an unfinished sketch I scanned in and pieced together yesterday... Page 11: Bapp Pogum, who I believe produced a second page... but it got lost somewhere in translation... crying Page 13: art-d'aimerPage 18: Odins_Apprentice_KuraDon't you just adore seeing all the different styles working together...? heart My heartfelt thanks goes out to all the artists who contributed, and I'm SO sorry if your work seems to have been for nothing! I hope this little showcase makes up for it somehow!~~~~~~~~~ For even more information and FAQs on the comic collab, please visit the collab thread, which can be found here in the Archives. And if you want some truly professional Demonbusters comicky goodness (ohyes, great minds think alike indeed), keep your eye on Nii's Demonbusters: Aftermath!

Tale It was a call felt around the world. None were exempt from the duty imposed upon them. Two letters arrived simultaneously at the doors of every man, woman and child - one black, one white. Human, elf, orc, mermaid - no colour or creed could offer protection from the papers' indiscriminate arrival. The conflict between chaos and law, having lain in balance for centuries, was suddenly tipped into motion once more by the hands of a mischief-maker. Like the flicking of a single domino, the effect grew and grew. Millions of Gaians descended on the barren fields west of Durem, digging in trenches and fortifying their encampments, sabotaging their enemies and powering their own weapons, building towards a final assault that would determine the fate of Gaia - up until now a place of relative peace and neutrality... A fortnight after the climax, a lone figure stands on a gleaming, white deck. The wind whips across the deserted beach, as we recount the tale of those for whom the conflict never ended. Those who the world left behind. More will be revealed... While thinking of the story I was inspired by Snow Patrol's Signal Fire and Utada Hikaru's Simple and Clean.Yes, go on, laugh at me ;3;I'm in agreement with Nii, however, that the soundtrack to the war should be Gurren Lagann.Hopefully these can help to set the appropriate mood! Oh, and as I've never stated this officially anywhere before - only in discussion - I'll put it here.
The ending of this retelling is virtually the same, with Jack stepping in and the gods losing their powers. However, the big difference is that nobody WON. There was no winner, and no loser. The struggle was all very much futile, and people returned to their lives with no feeling of triumph, but perhaps plenty of disillusionment. Important life lessons, eh?
The story will also explain the attitude of the mainland to BOO post-war, explaining our imposed exile and such.Lulz for remembering important things after already completing the whole thread ;3;

Mummy! Mummy!
Oh, sweetheart, hush. Your daddy finally fell asleep.
Oh...! Sorry! But I was just wonderin' - you were a priestess in the Benevolent Order, weren't you?
...I was, yes.
I knew it! It's just our teacher said she was looking for someone to come in and talk about the war...
No! ...No.
Awww! But why?
I won't talk about the war. I'll talk about the Order. I'll talk about the Overseer. I'll talk about our beliefs... but I won't talk about the war.
Why not...?
I hope you never have to experience the things I have, child. Now go do your homework, there's a good girl. Dinner will be ready in an hour or so. Looks like it'll be just us again!

Hey, Coline.
Yes, love?
Isn't it strange, how we met?
Hm?
The Order. If the Sentinel hadn't tried to take over the world... we never would have-
Ahh...! You're right! ...Hehe. Isn't that funny? You'd still be an old bachelor if not for her meddling.
Haha, that I would.
...
I love you.
I love you, too.
