I love the Kimono as much as the next person in this guild, but sadly, I cannot tie a regular Obi to save my life. I also have a hard time trying to find traditional Tabi to fit my feet. And don't get me started on buying a Nagajuban after getting all the undergarments and accessories.

As much as I love the Kimono, due to budget issues, I simply cannot invest much time into making sure everything is traditional and pretty. Not only that, I'm the person who has to have something that can be washed in a washing machine. I simply cannot afford a cleaner's bill.

So I ask you, Kimono manics, what is your favorite cheat in wearing a Kimono and why? It can be anything more than the three options, but I'd like to see what other people think.

Also, the last option is just a way of re-enforcing the way you put on a Kimono or Yukata. Left over right. xd xd gonk

My feet are a size ten, so I'd have to say my top two are stretch tabi and loosening the hanao on my zori and geta.

After that, probably using a kohrin belt around my knees to prevent my kimono from flapping open too far. It's great for people with narrow kimono and wide hips XD

If you can't find a proper kohrin belt, a single suspender works well too.

I'd have to say my biyosugata ("magic obi aid" mentioned by Yamanaka Norio in his Book of Kimono). It allows me to do all sorts of obi bows one can't usually do on themselves, so I have far more freedom in tying. I also always get a lot of compliments and questions when I use it, so it helps me feel a bit more special and boosts the ego, too. lol

I also like to use eri-sugata. Rather, I kind of have to; my juban collars are not full-width (they are modern juban) and so I need something with a full collar.

Stretch tabi can be handy, but for some reason I don't like them. I'm lucky that my feet are small enough to buy tabi for relatively easily (24.5cm is the size I wear).

Joseph paul, have you looked into polyester kimono? I have one and I wear it all the time. I have a few friends who love them too; they're often cheaper and so handy as you can put them in a washing machine.

My problem is getting a Kimono to fit my size, polyester, silk, or cotton. I'm big, and the problem is finding a Kimono that will fit a 2X-sized person. I know stores like JapaneseGifts.com are a good place, but other than that, I've got to take various types of measurements for my body to get a custom Kimono made.

That is the single most brilliant tip I've ever heard. But now I need to buy another korin belt. lol
