During the hours that most infants were asleep Deirdre was her brightest and today her father, accompanied by Aunt Lisa, decided to take her to the zoo. Since it was opening a new reptile exhibit, it stayed open later and allowed her to roam around like a normal child.

She rode up on Adrian's shoulders for a better look. "Oooh, ooh, was that! And that! And that!"

Aunt Lisa laughed. "Adrian, if you could see your face yo-"

The male huffed and rolled his eyes at his daughter's eagerness. With a strained smile he walked his father over to the zebra's, slipping the girl off his shoulders.

Loki was thrilled; he'd learned about a new reptile exhibit opening at the zoo, which was quite possibly his favorite place to go. It didn't matter to him whether or not it was past his bedtime. He loved animals; most animals, anyway. The chimera thing his mother had gotten him was the exception. Ugh. Those things were creepy! ...Were chimeras reptiles? He hoped not. He didn't want to meet one at the zoo and embarass himself.

It was unfortunate that his father wasn't the one bringing him. Instead, his hand was being firmly held by his mother. "I want you to behave," she instructed him. For some reason, Loki always seemed to cause trouble when she was around. She would have to ask Matthias about it--maybe he had experienced the same thing.

"Kay," the toddler agreed. Yes, he would be good. He wanted to see the animals!

"I can't tell which one is which." Lisa grasped her hands on the railing and leaned over, a frown on her face. "They all kind of blend in with each other."

Deirdre agreed. She scrunched up her nose and walked away to look for something better. The infant wobbled up to the alligator exhibit and fell against the rails. The movement startled the gators, though one opened it's jaws in a wide yawn.

She giggled and extended her claws, making a big mouth with her hands. "Rawr! Big lizzy go grrr."

Loki was quite impressed with the little girl near the alligator exibit. More impressed by she than he was by the alligators themselves. He looked up at his mother. "Found friend," he said by explanation, pointing to Deidre. "Let go!" he would have said more, but he found his mother's grip on his hand to have loosened.

"Don't cause trouble," she muttered. "Be good, and I'll buy you something from the zoo store later." Maybe Loki would like some plastic animals to play with, he did seem to do well with them. Maybe he would be a vet when he was older, though he seemed to have his father's temperment.

Loki ignored her. Didn't she understand that he was always good when he was able to see animals? He made his way towards Deidre, glancing at the alligators. Usually his ability lured animals to him. He hoped it wouldn't with the alligators. They were likely to eat him.

Deirdre was too busy giggling to see the mother, all she saw was the son. When she turned, she looked up him, her swirled eyes already judgemental. He looked weird, like some kind of weird freckled elf.

But, his ears were cool so she smiled. "See dem? Der gators. They do dis!" She made chomping sounds and did the motions with her hands again, claws extending out like ten jagged teeth.

Risa took a step back to watch her son interact with the little girl he'd found. She hoped they would become friends; Loki didn't seem to have many humanoid friends, prefering to be around animals. Unless you counted his half-sister, Aesica, but Risa never did.

Loki gave Deirdre a smile. "They do this?" he repeated, forming teeth with his own hands. He was rather impressed with her already; she could really make her hands look like teeth. "How you do that?" he asked suspiciously, looking at her hands. "I can't." The only time his claws had done anything like that was during his tantrum at the super market. With the attention span of a typical toddler, he asked, "Want to look 'round with me?"

"Uh huh! You got it." Deidre giggled and growled, an impressive impersonation of an actual wolf. At his question, the tot simply shrugged, because she really didn't know. It was just another trait her odd DNA gave her.

"Ya, sure, lets go!" She grabbed his hand and hopped off her perch, tugging on him. "C'mon, c'mon. We gots ta go. What'cha wanna see, huh?"

Loki was slightly envious, though the toddler was much more interested to see what was next on his mental list of reptiles he wanted to see. "Snakes!" he said excitedly. He loved snakes; mostly because he knew his mother disliked them. "I wanna see snakes. You get choose after snakes though," he added, just to be fair.

Risa decided she would be better off following Loki and his new found friend. She didn't want to lose them, and then have to explain to Matthias that she'd lost their son at the zoo and that he had probably been adopted by some family of gorillas. She didn't think he'd be pleased.

Deirdre nodded eagerly. She loved snakes! They had little ones in the castle that wrapped around your finger when you petted them. "Tay. Af'er da snakes, I wanna see dragons." The infant stopped at a fork in the road and looked down one way, before following suit for the other. "Which way?"

Adrian looked over his shoulder and tapped Lisa's shoulder before moving out to trail his daughter. He slipped his hands into his pockets before slipping next to Risa's side, his sister at the flank. "Looks like our children made fast friends."

"Oooh! I luv dragons!" Loki said excitedly. Dragons breathed fire and had wings and they were just--well, awesome! He looked to either path before shrugging. He knew the sign above must have said something about snakes, but he didn't know how to read. "Dunno," he said. "Maybe let Mommy pick? Mommy can read." He looked over his shoulder to glance at his mother. "Mommy! Which way the snakes?" He caught sight of Adrian as well, and gave the man his brightest, fakest smile; one that revealed the recently grown in fangs.

Risa looked to Adrian in surprise, though she recovered quickly and gave him a smile. "It seems that way," she agreed. Something about him reminded her of Matthias, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "We might follow suit," she added with a smile. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Risa."

"Me too, me too!" Deirdre squeeled excitedly and stomped her feet excitedly. "I gots a pet one, did'ja know? She's black. Just like this." The babe pointed to her black tipped ears and smiled, looking back with him at the woman trailing them. She tilted her head to the side. Weird, just like her son, but more like servant weird than weird-weird.

Adrian smiled softly and tilted his head down so he wouldn't be looking down on her. "I'd like that, Miss Risa. My name's Adrian and the woman behind me is my sister, Lisa." When he looked back, he'd noticed that she had moved onto better things. A.K.A. a dark-skinned zookeeper. Adrian shook his head and was momentarily derailed when the boy spoke. That smile...It was adorable and hilarious all at once and he found himself hiding a chuckle. "See the signs? They have pictures of animals on them. The one on the left says if you go that way, you'll see the snakes."

"You got pet dragon?" Loki echoed in absolute disbelief--and a little enviously, too. "Maybe I come see her!" Okay, so the toddler was inviting himself to a stranger's home. "I let you come see my kitties," he added. "And spiders. I got lots of those!" Loki tended to claim every animal within ten feet of him.

He paused only when Adrian spoke; flashing the man another smile before looking back to Deirdre. "Your daddy say we go left to see snakes!" he said excitedly. But which way was left? He looked to the signs. "We go this way," he pointed down the path on the left side.

"Nice to meet you, Lisa--" Risa started. "Oh, she's busy. What do you do, Adrian? I run a candystore, myself."

Deirdre puffed out her chest and nodded, suddenly very smug about her pets. "Sure! Den I can shows you my - Ohmygoshyougotsspiderstoo!" T'were she not so adverse to physical contact, she could have hugged him. She briefly flashed her father a smile that travelled to Risa before toddling off. "Kay. Whats a kitty?"

Adrian rolled his eyes, "Of course she is. One day she'll be a perverted old man on my stoop." He listened and paused, not exactly sure how to answer. "I run a company...with ties to sister corporations over seas." He couldn't exactly come out with that he was top cheese in the vampire world, now, could he? "Although, I would much prefer your profession. Tell me, whats it like?"

"You got spiders?" Loki asked, tilting his head slightly. Maybe spiders weren't as misunderstood as he'd thought, if other people kept them as pets too. He followed her, slightly confused. "You dun know what kitties are?" he asked with a gasp. Unbelievable! "Kitties are... Furry. Like hair! And they got pointy ears, and tails and four legs! And they got big yellow eyes! And they say meow and purr and hiss--" He was much more animated now; it was clear where his interest lay.

"It's really rather dull," Risa admitted. "Candy sales are up, though. Probably would be even better, if I allowed my fiancee to buy any." She gave a grin. "But you know-- I imagine cavities in ones fangs would be extremely painful." That and Matthias happened to be quite frightening when he had too much sugar; even if his low tolerance was rather amusing. "I'm sure your company is more interesting than a small candy shop, however. Tell me more."

"A big one!" Deirdre cupped her hands together and held them out. "Her names Katie. Oh, oh wait! Kitties are furry? My bro'der, he gots a furry, wif ears and a tail and four legs! But it don't go meow, it goes bark!" She was just as animated about the subject, to the point where she was enjoying the company of another child instead of wanting to gouge his eyes out.

Adrian laughed. "A sweet tooth, has he? I remember chocolate and licorice, but it's been such a long time ago." He couldn't remember the last time he had a sweet. Any food he happened to munch turned to soot in his mouth, so he avoided them just because it wasn't worth the disappointment. "More? Mi'Lady, what more do you want?" He grinned. "I can say this; there is never a dull moment. Overseeing so many people comes with ever so much drama."
