A positive way to look at stretch marks.

If you have gained a significant amount of weight, you may notice that you have gotten stretch marks from it. They appear as red lines perhaps on your lower stomach, hips, thighs, arms, etc. This is caused from the skin stretching in order to compensate for that extra fat that is being placed in those areas of the body. It's basically scaring of the skin.

However, when you do finally lose that "extra weight" you may notice your stretch marks are still their, but there not red. They are a lighter color of your skin tone, but hardly noticeable like before. As ugly as they may be in appearance, a positive way to see these marks are as a reminder, to never let your self get overweight again.

That's a good way to look at it! Another thing that keeps me from losing self esteem over stretch marks... if you exercise regularly, lose weight, and end up with an otherwise great body, is anyone really going to care if you have stretch marks?

Well from what I picked up on. I guess some people are bothered more by the red stretch marks, and tend to make remarks. Rather then when you lose weight you have the scaring but it's a lighter color of your skin tone. So I guess the lighter color is not so bad.

I've noticed that as I've lost weight, not only have my stretch marks faded to a pale color, but some of them I can't see at all anymore. They're like any other scar-over time they will fade until they're not noticeable. So they aren't forever anyway, and with an awesome body what's a couple scars?

I look at them as something natural. Even if you're not overweight or had been, lots of people have them either from muscle mass or growing in general. Mine are already pretty faint, so that might contribute to my indifference to them as well.
But really, look at anyone at your local lake or pool, almost everyone has some sort of stretch mark, blemish, mole, or flaw. It's what makes us unique and human.

If you don't want them to be that purpley color you can try cocoa butter, or bio oil to fade them. I am using cocoa butter right now and it's fading to a more even tone. I have tons of stretch marks from my pregnancy and they'll never be gone, but I have learned to accept them.

I only hit the overweight range when I quit my job and and stopped exercising at 20, but I've had stretchmarks since I was about 12. My breasts and hips came in too fast, I guess. My skin is not very forgiving. But even looking at them, old and faded as they may have been, was never an incentive for me to maintain my weight back in the good years. I learned what they were just through natural growth spurts. Whether I'm thin or not they like to appear. Thus, my first association with stretchmarks was made with my bones and not my body fat. Though having gained a significant amount of weight has certainly shown me how plentiful and severe they can get.

"What is normal for one is not normal for another."

Honestly, and this is just my opinion, screw a reminder, if I lose weight, I never wanna see stretch marks again. I will have them removed, be it surgically, by some special cream or whatever.

"Therefore, there is no such thing as "normal", is there?"
