In the future, the most popular game in the world is Angelic Layer. Contestants must raise and train their own 'Angels' (or fighting dolls) to compete in tournaments. Enter Misaki Suzuhara, sixth grade Angelic Layer prodigy. With her speed-type angel, Hikaru, many people think Misaki stands a chance at winning the championship. She'll have a lot of help along the way, but the road to victory will be not be an easy route, especially for someone as young as Misaki.

I'm on the last DVD. Oh man. The romance is killing me now. I hope Kotaro gets Misaki's heart. They're so cute.
Oh and I don't think Angelic Layer and Chobits are related.

Wrong timing Mago. I totally meant that. They aren't connected whatsoever. If they were then apparently her daughter just died off in Chobits and the husband's, Icchan from Angelic Layer, little step brother just died off as well. This was one of the best series I've seen in a while. So much so that my eyes teared up a lot on the last volume. So here is my review.
Angelic Layer
Imagine living in Tokyo and upon arriving get attached to a game in which you fight with a doll using your mind. This is what happened to first year middle school student Misaki Suzuhara with the game being Angelic Layer, the latest trend in Japan. Though it doesn't take long for Misaki to learn about the game since a mysterious man in a white lab coat only known as Icchan helps her dive into the world of Angelic Layer, in which she becomes the deuce or controller of her very own Angel named Hikaru. What does the future hold for Misaki and Hikaru? What challenges will they face on the Layer? And most of all, will Misaki ever meet her mother after seven long years of silence? Find out in Angelic Layer.
Angelic Fight!
The main power force behind the story of Angelic Layer is the interconnected relationships between the characters which we see unfolding with time. People fall in love, trusts are questioned, feelings are revealed, and even the past put behind. When watching Angelic Layer you get the raw feeling of the character very smoothly (though with CLAMP creating it, you just know that you'll deel everything).
Artwise, it is decent. Whenever the Angels fight in the Layer, the frame rate doesn't lag much. Every blow if fully flowed through making it a very exciting thing to watch on some episodes. Also the characters aren't over done and most of them really reflect the personality and soul of the characters.
Now that is pop music
One thing I noticed about the music in Angelic Layer is that a majority of it is pop. Though this can be a bad thing at times (lack of variety) it really pulls the scenes together well. Also it reflects the nature of a shojo series. It isn't over done, yet it isn't the greatest thing in the world either.
I do have to commend the voice acting however. It is very well done, some of which you may recognize from other series. Nobody is too high ptched or under pitched. It flows nicely into the scenes. Very good.
"Angel wings! Please guide me and Hikaru!"
Angelic Layer is a great series if your looking for an anime that isn't so violent. If the drama doesn't get you watching, then the story of rising to the top will. I recommend seeing this series but it isn't one which is necessary.
