Neo: "I first learned about Akira when I graduated from high school back in 2001. It was during the summer vacation and I had just bought my first issue of Anime Invasion magazine (now known as Anime Insider). In this issue there was a big Akira article stating the differences between the manga and the anime. It was a good article that just stuck in my mind. A few weeks later we were all back home and I went to Blockbuster where I spotted a copy of the VHS Streamline dub of Akira. I rented it and watched it that night. It left me sitting in my chair with my jaw hanging open and the rest as they say is history. Now I would like to know how and/or when you guys first discovered the Akira magic!" biggrin

I first learned about it when I was 10 (I think), which was seven years ago. My friend's brother had rented it and we all watched it together. I really want to get the manga. I don't have the movie myself, but my friend does, and since we share almost everything we own, I can watch it at any time.

For me, I found it on the Action Channel about three or four years ago.. I was ten or eleven. Weird, yes, but I have watched it about 6 times since and I just really heart that god damned bike. I want that ulmighty bike. xO
When I first saw AKIRA I was a little turned off by how old it looked. But then, as I continued to watch it -- I fell in love. The way that the people were drawn, the bikes (OMG THE BIKES!! 3nodding ), and the buildings. I loved it. After seeing it, I went to the mall to see if they had it and they did -- but I didn't buy it.
Bwee.. I want that bike. ><;; Sorry if I'm sounding obsessed. I just really want a bike like that!

I bought the Akira Streamline DVD a LONG time ago. Then it got damaged, and I had to find another online. Once the Pioneer release came out, my girlfriend sent me the Japanese Special Edition, and I bought the North American Collectors Edition (I got both at exactly the same time by accident).

Discovered... the manga first. Volume 4 was at the library, and I was like: hey, isn't this a really famous anima movie? I should read this.
...I was really confused. Serves me right for starting out in the middle of the series. Anyways, I continued reading them (in the wrong order, heh). Found the new dub dvd sitting on the shelf of a local Blockbuster, so I decided to borrow that.
(Manga rocks your socks so much more than the movie.)
Yeah, that started it all.

♠Me and a buch of friends all lend eachother anime. I didn't barrow Akira from them, the first time I watched Akira was on television. I seach 'animated' on my dish tv and anime and cartoons pop up. I barrowed it from a friend after that because I wanted to see it again.♠
