Harmony lay resting, nestled in a valley close to the thicket that she called home. She had recently returned from a long journey, a simple romp that led to the exploration of a dark, spooky forest. What she had learned there was invaluable to her, she could put no price on the stories she had heard. Harmony had realized that perhaps she didn't have it quite as bad as she thought. After all, her blood was a graceful cross of gentle-tempered creatures...quite unlike those sporting Kalona blood. True, she didn't have the wings she needed to explore the sky. But she did have her sanity. Her hooves could take her almost anywhere she wanted to go...but even though she was comforted by that thought, she knew that the place she truly wished to go-the sky-was forever out of her grasp.

Astrophel could tell her about the sky, she knew. But could she continue to ask, knowing that the words brought an equal amount of comfort and pain? Regardless, Harmony hadn't seen Astrophel for a number of weeks. Perhaps he had found someone up there in the sky, someone he could share all aspects of his life with. If so...she would try to be happy for him. But she hoped with ever fiber of her being that he would return to her. Her shining, glorious Astrophel...whenever he was around, the impossible seemed almost achievable.

She opened her eyes, glancing up at the sky like she did so very often. Perhaps today would be the day he would return. She waited a few moments with bated breath. Or perhaps not. She sighed, then grinned a silly, lopsided grin. It was foolish of her to think that he would appear simply because she wished him to.

Astrophel had just gotten the news of Madhi's pregnancy. She was a sweet mare, and they had things in common. But at the same time, they didn't click like that. It was a one time thing. Go figure his first time with a mare would get her pregnant. So now he had a lot on his mind. Since they were never going to be in a relationship what happens now?

Astrophel wasn't really pay attention to what he was doing, as he flew through the skies. He was just trying to get a grip on the new situation. Before he had realized it, he had landed nearby a familiar valley and thicket. And it didn't take long for him to see Harmony's head.

That was right. While he was chasing the figure from his nightmares, Harmony had left. He never knew why she did. But she did. And it was like something inside him told her she was back. But now that he was there, he wasn't to sure about it. He felt weird about telling her of Madhi...

"Harmony?"

But apparently, sometimes wishes did come true.

Harmony stood up, turning to face the sound of Astrophel's voice. Lo and behold, there he stood, his blue face a welcome sight to her eyes. "Astrophel!" she exclaimed, striding towards him. She laughed, a rarity for the usually sullen mare, and smiled at him. "I've missed you. You hadn't come to see me in a while, and then I kind of accidentally had an adventure, so..." she trailed off, not knowing how to end her statement. She really had missed him. While she was gone, she kept wondering if he had come to her thicket, looking for her, only to discover that she wasn't there.

"I really only meant to be gone a day," she said, reflecting on her journey. "But I wound up getting lost, and...well, it took me a while to find my way home." So much had happened on her trip that she discovered she didn't know where to begin in it's telling. So she decided not to tell him, not at once anyway. Besides, she was anxious to hear about what he'd been up to. It was sure to be something amazing.

"So tell me, what sort of adventures did you find while I was out traveling? You never seem to have a dull moment."

Astrophel looked at her. "I stumbled by a couple times to see if you had come back." He smiled at her. She was really one of the few friends outside the herd he grew up with he had. He tilted his head at her some. It sounded like she had a great adventure. Maybe she was sad she had come home?

"Ah, well you know..." He laughed nervously. "Well it's kind of a long story." He kind of hoped he wouldn't want to hear it, but she would find out about it in the end. But he had barely enough time to really swallow it.

"Yeah things are, interesting... You look good though." He smiled at her. She was easy on the eyes.

"You did?" Harmony smiled. "I'm sorry I wasn't here, then. It's been too long, I think, since I've seen you." While traveling was fun, she hadn't met anyone as dear to her as Astrophel. He was a great friend, and he didn't think she was any lesser of a being simply because she lacked the wings of her ancestors. She was closer to him than her own parents, though it pained her to think that.

Harmony sobered at his words. "Sounds like a lot happened. Of course, I'm curious, but...you know you don't have to tell me if you don't want to." She wondered if he had seen something, or done something, that had upset him. Not for the first time, she wished she could take to the skies. But this time it wasn't for her own gain. She wished she could have gone with him, to have been able to prevent that uncertain expression on his face, to keep worry out of his beautiful eyes.

She laughed at his last statement. "I don't look any different than when you last saw me. Thanks for the compliment, though." She grinned up at him. He was always strikingly handsome, no matter what. "You're looking good too, as always," she said softly.

"In due time I'll tell you. When its right." Astrophel needed. This was not the time to tell her of Madhi, and that fateful night. He didn't want to upset Harmony, on their first meeting in a very long time. "Haha." He laughed. It was just nice to see her again.

"So would a walk to the nearby field, and some grass be enough for you, to settle in and tell me about your trip? I'd like to know where you went." His wings stretched and then folded in against his sides, so they wouldn't get caught in the trees. He didn't really wait for an answer; he knew wether or not they ate, that she would go with him.

Ducking under some of the branches, he walked his way back out to the direction he had come from, and waited for her to join him on the path.

"Sure would. It's kind of a long story, so I hope you've got some time on your hands!" she laughed, walking beside him with a little grin on her face. She loved being around him. He was so wonderful, and he didn't even mind that she couldn't fly.

As she walked, she started to tell him of her misadventures. "Well, it all started right here. I was going to go out for a walk, and I wound up finding a trail I'd never seen before," she looked out towards where the path had been. "I followed it down to a grassy plain, encompassed by a huge forest. It was dark in there, but...I was curious, so I went inside." Harmony shivered. "I was lost as soon as the forest closed around me." She shivered harder, the mere memory of her fear an oppressive presence in her mind. "I would have died there...if it wasn't for Cobalt." She looked up at Astrophel, a faraway look in her eyes. "He saved me, you know. He told me that...that it was okay that I didn't get my grandmother's wings. He said that I should be grateful that my blood crosses so gracefully...and that it was much harder for those with Kalona blood in their veins."

Harmony looked down at the ground, at the grass poking up around her hooves. "I think he was right. Even though I'm always going to feel a bit sad that I can't fly, I'm glad that I don't have Kalona blood. Cobalt does, you know. He has this big leather wings...he looks terrifying, but he's really very nice. And though he can fly as much as he wants, he curses his wings because they're from his Kalona heritage. He says he would gladly ground himself forever if he could rid himself of his curse by doing so."

Harmony paused. Cobalt had experienced the joy of flight, yet he would still give it up gladly to be rid of the Kalona curse. "It must be truly terrible to have Kalona blood, if he feels that strongly about it," she said sadly.

As they walked together Astrophel listened to her talk. She seemed like she had learned a lot on her trip and he was glad of that. But he was also glad to know she was here and safe. "Some embrace it. Being a kalona, isn't bad. I mean as an angeni they and skinwalkers are like our sworn enemies. But it would be like saying being a unicorn was wrong. Without good, there is no evil, and without evil there is no good. Some desire to be different then what they are. And that is something everyone should understand." He looked down at her, as he lead her into the field.

"There are even angeni that have questionable morals. Just because you're born an angeni doesn't mean you will be heavenly." Folding his wings against his side, he rounded to face her, when they had found a food spot.

"I've spent my whole life telling myself that I was wrong for being the way I am. But...you're right, Astrophel. It's not anyone's fault for being the way they are," she decided, a smile gracing her features. "It's perfectly right for everyone to be exactly as nature made them."

It stunned her that there were Angeni who were on the evil side of the spectrum. Angeni were supposed to be holy, the epitome of all that was good...but she supposed that even the most noble intentions could be perverted and warped into something of a questionable design. "Astrophel...you're amazing, you know that? I spend weeks learning the same lesson you already knew." She beamed up at him, admiration in her dark eyes. "Your mother must be very proud," she commented, remembering on of their earlier conversations. "I'd like to meet her one day. She must be an amazing mare, to have raised such a wonderful son as you."

Astrophel tilted his head some. She had to go and learn it. But was it because he was taught that when he reached the heavens? Maybe it was something that wasn't common knowledge. He decided not to think to hard on the matter, and preened her mane lightly before she asked his question.

"My mother huh?" He had to think about it, and the first horse to come into were the usdia Forte and Lunar. They most certainly weren't his biological mother. "Well, I don't know if I have one to be honest." It was almost like this was normal to him. All he could remember was one day waking up to see the Usdia mares...

But with the question too, a growing headache stirred in his mind. Asty wanted out. He wanted to share the story of the bloody death, and his long lost sister.
