The ebony pelt glistened with sweat, and it trickled down his body, accenting his features. His orange markings glowing a bit brighter, and the owl like markings over his entire body seemed to move with him like he was a shadow. He had needed a good run, his body aching with the thoughts of getting out and just letting go for a few hours. He loved to explore, though running was definitely his favorite thing to do.
He ran like his life depended on it, though it didnt and he was merely enjoying himself. His breath came out in heaves as he tried to make sure he kept his body oxyginated enough for the run. His tongue hung out the side of his mouth, and he had a smile ten miles long on his maw, and he leapt over logs and dodged trees.
He thought about the female he had met awhile ago while he ran, and a pang came to his muscles. He missed talking to her, it had been a little while. Hopefully she was safe, he had been reluctant to want her to leave when he realized she could be harmed out there. He had stood a bit taller that day, and told her he would always be her friend, no matter how quiet she was.
He wondered if he would ever see her again, but the thought slowly eased from his mind as he slowed himself down, his paws digging into the earth. The river was nearby, and he was panting quite dramatically.

When a pup, Flame always had heard her auntie tell that "dreams were the window to the soul". Awake or otherwise, your subconscious desires and wishes were made real in them. They could tell your future, even. Flame knew that once, though it had taken her time to muster up the courage, she had asked this great wolf what about nightmares? The scary dreams?
Now, pacing with a troubled mind along the muddy river-bank, the female would have died to know what her answer had been.
For such night terrors had plagued her constantly whenever she slept for the past few nights. Visions of lost family and home, pangs of anxiety and hopelessness from these harsh memories, and invented ones as well. A river, crystal clear as she approached, was pure until she touched it to drink. Then patches of fur floated to the surface from it's depths, each in familiar swirls and patterns. Bones followed suit, only harmless bubbles a precursor to their arrival.
Flame couldn't understand. But unlike the bad dreams of long ago, when she awoke there was no comforting fur to curl up into. No warm breath upon her face as they murmured soothing words to her. She was alone. Even in this meadow, in the most harmless light of day, she felt alone and panicked.

He hadnt been meaning to go through the meadow, as he hated how open it was. Even though humans were no where near the area, it was still a vulnerable position. He had landed there though, and he lowered his nose to the earth, and took a deep breath as he tried to smell what had wandered this direction moments before, if anyone. But he caught the familiar scent rather quickly, and he lifted his head instantly, searching the area that he could see with his naked eye. He wagged his tail, but a whine of anticipation left his throat. After all.. What if he had missed her..
Flame was a beautiful female, whether she realized it or not. He had not wanted to embarass her by telling her such things yet, but he couldnt help but feel his heart beat a little faster when he thought of possibly seeing her again.
His paws touched the earth gently as they carried him forward, and on towards the scent. He hoped she was there, that this trip to the meadow was not for nothing.. He smiled, and looked around once more.
Finally, he spotted the black female within the darkness, but he noticed she was sitting there, like she was.. focusing on something. But of what? What a shame she was always so alone..
"Flame?" He called.

Bones like fish flitting about in this very stream.
Yet despite the gory image the female couldn't find it within herself to tear away, desperately watching the surface of the water for some sign of decay or macabre to rear it's ugly head. But from where she sat, entranced by the shimmery shapes beneath the current, it was too shallow, the light too bright. If she had wanted to Flame could have easily stepped into the water without getting even her belly wet.
It didn't mean she wasn't watching, though. In the back of her mind the female realized how ridiculous she was being, waiting for a horror that would, could never happen. It was silly in itself, waiting for a horror. But she held on to the idea like a child would to Santa Claus, desperately clinging. If there was just the slightest hope...
Orange and ebony ears flickered back at the oncoming noise of footsteps through the grass, so lush and green already in the year. Accompanying it was a familiar scent and voice, enough to allow her to relax marginally. Shifting her position she looked towards Tada! with a mixture of relief and slight surprise. How had he found her here?
And that was when something clicked in her head. That was what she had been looking for in the water. Closure.

He hoped he wasnt interrupting, but he stepped closer. Once she saw his reflection in the water, he felt himself stop moving as he waited for what she might do. He wasnt going to approach her too quickly, she was a skittish female, and he had to tread carefully as to not scare her off. If she ran, he would have deserved it, and he wanted to make her comfortable.
"Flame?" He called out tenatively. He sat down, tail curling around his paws as he watched her. Oh how lovely she was, her blackened pelt with the flames of fire.. Almost opposite of that of his Grandmother. Twist, and her water based pelt were a great deal different than this female in front of him.
"I'm sorry. Im not bothering you am I?" He asked.

It had indeed surprised her to see him in the water, frightened for a moment as well. There she was, eyes darting about like the fish she saw, looking for signs of the dead, and what reflected back was nothing but the kind face of a.... The female was hardly a social butterfly in her youth, even less so now. She wasn't sure what to categorize him as. A stranger? A friend? Just an acquaintance? Well, certainly an acquaintance no longer. But it filled her with dread for a moment, and a frightened expression flashed for a moment over her face before she turned to actually look at him.
Flame? Looking almost dumb with relief as it flooded in, the female gave an anxious affirmation of a nod. "Oh. No, not at all." She replied softly, bi-coloured eyes glancing over every part of Tada! If it could even be counted as a bother, well, it couldn't! She was glad to see him, and it wasn't like she was doing anything anyhow.
"I-I'm sorry, but..." Flame started, unsure of how to phrase it. "How are you here?" It was a dumb question to ask, and immediately she flickered both ears back for asking. But the forest was a large place. He couldn't have been following her....could he?

He paused, and gave a nervous chuckle. Oh he hadnt been -following- her persay.. He had caught her scent and sought her out. He had meant nothing devious about it, and he would have blushed if he could have. He wagged his tail though, as she didnt look too distraught to see him.. Something he could have expected really. How else would she take his just randomly showing up behind her?
"Er, no.. Im sorry.. I was taking a walk and when I smelled that you were out here, I decided to see if you wanted to take a walk with me. Of course, it seems you're already busy." He nervously spoke, trying not to stutter too much around her. He was losing his suave attitude, as he was showing his inner insecurities around females he liked.
"Should I go? I did just kind of show up.. I was rather rude."

"Please don't go." It came out quicker than she herself had expected, and she noticed when thinking, much more desperate than she thought she was. Eyebrows furrowed lightly at that thought, and Flame found herself fumbling over words to find her pace again.
"I mean..." She thanked the gods for her mix of deep black and already fire-red cheeks, should they have been turned the same colour in her embarrassment. The female sat up a little straighter, though her head was still dipped towards Tada! "You just got here a-and....yes. I would love to walk with you." Right now even the cool sound of the stream was disturbing her, the quiet lost on her frantic fumble and the images still burned fresh in her mind. Giving only a side-glance to the water, Flame shook her pelt.
"Maybe....away from here?" It surprised her to be this bold, but at the moment her sanity was her primary priority, and keeping so close to the water [though was her habit] was too stressing.

When she stopped him, he released the breath he seemed to have been holding without realizing it. So she didnt want him to leave.. well maybe that meant she liked having him around. The thought made him swell with excitement, but best not count your chickens before they hatch..Who knew what could happen.
"I wont go if you dont want me to." He reassured her. He wanted to make sure she knew he was tehre for her no matter what..Even if it meant she only wanted him as a friend, he would deal..though he knew his heart belonged to her.
"Ill go whereever you want." He said, but the way he said it.. made him blush and he too was happy for his dark pelt. He realized that he was twitterpated, and he smiled nervously.
"Im sorry.. Im so nervous around you sometimes." He smiled gently.

Good. She was glad, and tossed him a embarrassed smile. His being there gave her a little bit of order, a relative amount of security. It was childish, she knew, but it was more than what she had had before.
Bi-coloured eyes widened and for a second she was a little bit shocked. He was nervous around her? Oh, he had to be kidding. Flame almost ducked her head for not getting that joke quick enough.
"You're funny." She tried, looking up at him. It wasn't a sarcastic remark, her tail gave a quick swish to ensure he knew that. He was just making her feel better for her anxiety. "You can't be nervous. You're big and strong. Why...why would you need to be nervous?"

He grinned. She had no idea how beautiful she was. It was very refreshing that she wasnt vain, and snotty. He loved that about her. She was so genuinely beautiful, and her personality matched.
"Why wouldnt I be? You are beautiful. You stole my heart from the beginning." He said with a nod, though he would have blushed all over again. He usually wasnt the greatest silver tongued boy, but he really felt what he had just said. She had stolen his heart! He could think of nothing else since he met her.

(oh god all I thought of typing this was just using an assortment of emoticons XD )
That certainly turned her little head upside down. There was a tightness in her throat, not unlike fear, and a sort of need to dig into the ground and hide from him. But it wasn't fear. At least, she didn't think it was because that would mean her running in the completely wrong direction.
But it was a little worry, and though her eyes widened at his confession and her chest started thumpin' and her mouth curled from an embarrassed smile to the tiniest little ashamed-at-how-satisfied-she-was bubbling-over neat little grin, Flame couldn't find herself leaping into her arms.
He liked her. Not only liked her, loved her he said. LOVED. Loved like her parents felt and everyone she knew felt at some point but goodness! And her head raced and the words choked in her throat and somewhere the courageous little Flame she always wanted-to-be was pushing for the words that would solidify him to her forever and ever and be safe and happy.
Too much was going through her mind, it took so long to process but so little time in the real world! "You..." She squeaked out, her voice high, so close with either crying or cheering. But she dipped her head lower, turning it away from him. He didn't love her! He barely knew her. These things took time, right? She wasn't one for jumping so quick, not without checking how far the fall was despite even her willingness to leap.
"N-No, no! You don't, I'm sure. That's very nice of you, but you have to have somebody else confused with me. I...we barely even. I mean, it can't just. I-I...how?" The femme turned back for a moment, bi-coloured eyes watching for him to tell her he was mistaken. That he was lying.

Oh no, had he scared her? Damnit! He knew better than that. She was a submissive wolf, and she grew skittish easily. He cursed himself for being so forward.
"Damnit.. Im sorry Flame. If I said that too soon, if I gave it away too soon..Im sorry, I should have thought more about your feelings and less of mine. Im so selfish." He sat and curled his tail around her legs, though he looked at her earnestly. His eyes told her that it was her he spoke of, but he was now upset he had upset her.
"But.. I dont have you confused." He said, and he certainly wasnt lying. But he said nothing from there, and just let her let the idea sink in. He didnt want to upset her any further..He'd prefer to have her comfortable and happy.

She dipped her head nervously as he swore, not in anyway fond of such language. Especially when she suspected it may be directed towards her...
This seemed too much for her to handle, though instead of bolting she was stuck to her spot.
Eventually his warm, apologetic tone brought her back out of her head. Ears flickered back and forth from upset to curious, folded over in anxiety to...hopeful?
When the female opened her mouth to speak, she paused for a moment, drawing her head back. Flame gave a shaky attempt at a laugh. "Love shouldn't make you nervous, should it?" He was nervous, she was nervous. She supposed love was easy-going, freely given and received. Of course she'd known nothing but that of a family.
