After she had gotten her cast off, Eve was pretty much celebrating her freedom, like a bird who had been set free from it's cage. And like a bird that was now free to spread its wings, the blond girl was wandering around the streets, not caring about how cold the weather was. Hey, she had to get used to it, right? And of course, one of the things on her 'What to Do When This Blasted Cast Gets Off My Leg' list was to go shopping.

Ohhhh, she hadn't been shopping in ages, she hadn't been in the mall in what seemed like forever. She no longer cared that her shopping trips in the past had usually been interrupted by youma, Eve Summers was going to shop today, and Sailor Flora would make no appearance. Nada, Zip, Zilch.

"I missed shopping so much." She muttered under her breath, blue eyes bright as she emerged from an accessory shop with hairclips; cute unicorn ones for Rea and flowery ones for her. Eve was determined to buy gifts to make up for the trips Rea had to make to Destiny Memorial just to visit her.

If Eve was a free bird, than Carter was a kiwi bird placed into the albatross exhibit at the zoo. He looked rather out of place, his fingerless gloved hands slowly leafing through a clothes rack moved outside to brave the cold weather and tempt shoppers inside. To Eve's experienced eye, the clothes on the rack were last year's craze. This year, well, shoppers were encouraged to quietly hide them in the back of the closet in order to pull them out again a year later, when they would be back in style.

For now, though, Carter's back was turned to Eve. While he wore an amused expression directed at the garment he beheld, to Eve it seemed as if he was holding a ticking bomb. What use could anyone have for a hideous pink shirt designed for males in mind, with frolicking mushroom-hatted badger on the front?!

Uh oh.

Out of the corner of her eye, Eve caught sight of a terribly ridiculous shirt held up by a blue-haired boy. Sure, she liked pink like most other girls would, but that was pretty ridiculous. And it wasn't as if it was a blouse, it was a shirt meant for boys. The male species. Which, in her opinion, did not usually look good in pink, and especially with that boy's tanned skin? Oh, no way. She was not about to let him commit a fashion faux pas.

Bag in hand, the blond girl strode up to where Carter was and once again, eyed the creature emblazoned on the shirt. Ugh. There was a difference between cute and just plain weird. "Y'know, I thought boys usually don't like to wear pink." She commented brightly.

Tickticktickti- BOOM.

Carter didn't pay much heed when Eve approached, but he visibly jumped, nearly dropping the offending shirt onto the ground, where it belonged. "Wha! Oh! No way!" He protested, brandishing the shirt. "I thought this was on the wrong rack, but, er..."

His face darkening with an embarrassed flush, he returned the shirt to the rack, wiping his hands on his jeans as if to cleanse them. "Um, hey you wouldn't happen to know of any good clothing stores around here, would you?" He asked, shifting from one foot to the other.

"I'm glad to know that wasn't your choice then." Eve chirped, eyes twinkling brightly at the boy. "Honestly, it doesn't fit someone like you; it doesn't even really fit most boys I know, come to think of it." Marlo, no, and though Elzo probably didn't care much about fashion, he would probably shudder at wearing anything pink. Toby and Pavel? Too cute to wear something like this. Simon too, actually, but it was because he was shy that it made him cute. He'd probably wear something like this only if someone bought it for him and he wanted to show his gratitude by wearing it at least once.

At his next question, blue eyes lit up and Eve patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, you've asked the right person for the job!" With a wink, she grabbed his arm and hauled him through the mall. "Not that shop, at least." She said, when they were out of earshot of any shop assistants. "So last season. Looking for anything in particular?"

Carter grinned, chuckling softly. "Something for someone clueless to pick up? Ah! I mean," he interrupted himself, raising his hands and waving them, "Not to say that I can't dress myself and that I don't know any better. Er."

He ended it with a grin and a shrug, blinking at her in surprise as she patted him then grabbed him. Surprised, he nearly stumbled before regaining his feet and following her. "Oh really? I didn't know there were seasons for shops..." He trailed off, looking around before adding, "In particular? Not really -- comfortable clothes mostly. I usually go for baggy things, since too tight pants constrict your movement, and shorts usually leave you open to getting gashes when you take a nasty tumble, y'know?"

"For skateboarding, that is," he added quickly. "And general goofing off."

"There really should be a warning sign," Eve said with a laugh, "unless you count that monstrosity of a shirt one." Which, it honestly could, for she couldn't fathom why someone would even want to buy something like that. It was probably why the shopkeepers were so desperate as to move the clothes rack outside, in hopes to get it off their inventory.

"It's horribly out of fashion." She explained, pausing only to hear his answer to her question. "Have you tried Hollystar? It's a pretty cool place." Then, there was a quirk of an eyebrow and a grin when she assessed his choice of clothing. "Shopping for warmer weather already?" Honestly, it was still pretty cold out there, and many would definitely be wondering why one would be wearing shorts and skateboarding when you needed a few layers of clothing to survive.

Out of... fashion? Carter blinked and tried to comprehend this. Fashion was what you put on, right? So if it's out of fashion, it's stuff you... take off? He tried to view it from Eve's point of view, decided that somewhere out there someone would rip that shirt off of somebody, if only to burn it. That is, if it was really that bad -- right now, he was more than content to go along with her, at least until he could figure out what was currently "in" and "out." Whatever those meant.

"Hollystar?" He echoed, shaking his head, "I just hopped off the bus after picking up my uniform for school, really -- 's when I noticed my closet was missing some of my clothes, and... well," he shrugged. "I'm not used to snow that much, but otherwise I layer up the colder it gets -- right now 'neath this jacket," he paused to unzip his coat, and brandish his chest like the world's most fashion-oblivious superhero to prove his point, "I've got two shirts, one's a long-sleeved shirt and the other is this shirt that I think I've had for a long time. It's hard to tell."

The shirt in question looked as if it once upon a time displayed a logo of a band, but time and trips through the washing machine rendered the iron-on logo faded and missing in places. If anything, it was more a piece of monotone abstract art.

"Ohhhhh," Eve breathed, realization sinking in. "You're new here!" Quite obvious, seeing that he didn't know Hollystar, and every teenager in town obviously knew of it's existence, for they all clamored to be employed there. It was the first choice for most teens, really. "Well, welcome to Destiny City; I'm Eve Summers." She said warmly, flashing him a bright smile. No wonder he seemed so lost, the poor thing.

"Oh." She said again when he revealed to her what he was wearing under his coat, but it was in a much flatter tone, though she did her best to hide her horror. "We really need to get you to Hollystar." She knew boys didn't mind wearing old shirts, but that really was rather extreme.

As they entered the shop, Carter would probably notice that the heating was blasted out, and was probably the warmest place he had been to so far. Eve looked rather glad at the warmth too, her eyes bright. "Look around and see if there's anything you like?"
PostPosted: Thu Feb 04, 2010 4:12 am

"Yep!" He beamed, "Just arrived yesterday, in fact! It's not that bad of a place, despite the odd blocked-off street here and there. I'm Carter, by the way -- Carter Martin. It's a pleasure to meet you, Eve!" Eve, Eve, Eve, he repeated to himself, trying to commit her name and face to memory.

He didn't pick up on her flat tone, nor did he shown any sign of picking up on it. Instead the boy did the entire city a favor and zipped his coat back up, hiding the horrendous shirt from view. Hopefully when this trip was over the shirt would return to the depths it came from -- that is, the very bottom of Carter's closet.

As they entered the store, Carter reached up and pulled on the collar of his jacket before - oh no what was he doing he couldn't possibly be thinking of - oh. Oooh, okay. The boy unzipped his jacket enough to expose his neck, sighing in relief. "Wheeew! This place is nice," he commented, turning to her. "Er, before I go willy-nilly... Do you have any suggestions? Or rather what's currently 'in' or 'out,' since I'd probably grab the nearest thing and throw it in." Probably? He already has!

"Glad you like it Carter!" She chirped. "Just keep out of shady places; you'll never know what you might run into." Like youma, she said mentally to herself. Like Negaverse agents trying to rip your starseed from your chest. Why would anyone even want to move here? Were all these reports kept within the city itself to prevent a fall in tourist rates? Ugh. Though honestly, Carter seemed like a pretty decent kid, besides the whole washed out shirt thing, and she hoped he wouldn't get into any trouble.

"Oh, I trust Hollystar." Eve said, with a flip of her blond curls. "They don't put their out of fashion out on display," not like that store back there, "just don't pick clashing colors, I guess?"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:39 am

Carter had to wonder at that. No shady places? What if it was the middle of summer? What was so bad abo-oooh. Dangerous shady places as in the places gangsters, mobsters, and villains hung out. He nodded, unaware of the more dangerous things that lurked about Destiny City.

Besides, all those weird monsters and superheroes were just publicity stunts to raise tourism, right? Right! Psh, as if demons and soul-stealers were real.

"Um... Clashing colors?" He echoed, staring at her curiously. "Like... that pink shirt back there?" Oooh boy.

"Pink does not go well with your hair." She explained, wrinkling her nose oh so slightly at the choice. Really, pink and blue? Noooo way. And he had such nice hair too! "Go with blue, black or white as base colors. Or maybe even green, to match your eyes." Then designs were another story; there were some white shirts with rainbow decorations on the front, but that was okay.

It was Hollystar after all. Not just some store that pushed its unsellable horrendous insult to fashion out and made it a sale in an attempt to sell it off. Such shops were a disgrace, really!

At the mention of his hair, Carter grinned and nodded in understanding. "I see! Things that... make it pop, right? So it's not a distraction and gets attention!" He nodded to himself, making note of those colors. While part of him was disappointed that his favorite color wasn't mentioned, it just meant that he could orange up something else. Like his shoes, or even some of those loud, clanky bracelets some people wore.

"Great! Thank you, Eve," he replied, then hesitantly added, "Is there anything I can do for you in return for your help...?"

"Exactly!" She said, looking pleased. He learned pretty quickly, which was a very good thing. Eve didn't like having to smack fashion advice into people, but if she had to, she would. And actually, if only if he had mentioned orange, she would have thought it alright. She had merely listed off a few examples, after all.

"Pssh, it's alright." Eve shook her head with a dismissive wave of a hand. "I had to save you from a fashion disaster after all! Plus, you're new in town, and it's good to be friendly to newcomers right? Going to Meadowview?"
