Sailor Vanadis was lurking around a dark alleyway after-hours. This was not a regular thing for her, and this was readily apparent in the way she jumped at every noise, shadow and muted snore.
This was, in fact, a bad idea. A very, very bad idea, as she was starting to realise - seriously, why couldn't she have decided to check out, like, the park instead? Or at least come here sometime when you could actually see your own bloody hand?
There'd been talk of youma activity in the area on several websites, and Vanadis, being the obedient kind of idiot she is, had decided going to check it out would be a good, senshi-like thing to do.
Which was why she was here. Alone. In the dark. Scared witless and ready to deny it at a moment's notice.

Now, she had promised the Princess she wasn't going to patrol by herself. But she wasn't really patrolling; she was leaping across rooftops on her way to meet another Zodiac for patrol. So really, she was keeping her promise. She stopped when she saw a splash of glow, slowed and peered over the edge. There was a senshi!
She dropped down into the alleyway, brushed her hair back, and said: "Hello!"
Virgo had a bright glow, a green glow; she didn't find it hard to see, but it wasn't blinding. "What are you doing? You shouldn't be out by yourself, the youma are getting really, really strong."

"They are, aren't they?" the 'clip clip clip' of heels on asphalt slowly drawled down the alleyway. "I give that credit entirely to our beautiful leader."
Variscite, of course, meant Beryl. She wasn't going to outright say it, though. Where was the mystery in that? No, it was better to let the mystery hang over their pretty heads for a little longer.
"Senshi are like a beacon, aren't they? You get one stupid and beautiful one roaming the alleyways, and soon an equally stupid and beautiful one joins them," Variscite held a clawed hand to her lips and laughed. "It makes me, who's been reduced to a mere cockroach roaming the alleys at night, have a grander purpose than scavenging for Star Seeds."
Variscite stopped walking and stood in front of the two girls, hands on her hips.
"Now then, shall we get down to business? I am Variscite, a humble lieutenant of the Negaverse." The androgynous woman's low, sweeping bow betrayed just how 'humble' she was. "There are many ways we can continue from here. I could pluck out your eyes with my lovely little fingertips..."
She stretched them out towards the girls like some sort of twisted Wicked Witch.
"... Before snatching your Star Seeds from your writhing bodies. I could just lunge in for the kill, but how boring is that? Hmm..."
Variscite's golden lips stretched into a lecherous grin.
"If you wanted to make things really interesting, I have a car parked at one of the alley's mouths. We could always get to know each other better in there, hmm?"

She'd jumped back, startled and had nearly peed her pants when the new senshi dropped in - quite literally, too. At the least, she was pretty sure the newcomer was a senshi; who else could jump down from a rooftop in heels without breaking their legs?
She'd even gotten as far as a squeaky "Um," for a greeting when the new newcomer arrived to the party. Or whatever this was turning out to be. Gathering of Things that go Bump in the Night?
And this one probably wasn't a senshi. Vanadis watched with wide, slightly terriffied eyes as the black-haired girl introduced herself. And proceeded to be scarier than anything else in her life had ever been.
"W-what?" She flailed a bit, missing the innuendo completely and looking bewildered, "But.. b-but the Negaverse is ugly! This isn't a very good joke." She pointed accusingly at the so-called lieutenant - she might be scary, but gosh darn it, Vanadis knew what a youma looked like. Youma were the Bad Guys. If this girl was claiming to be a Bad Guy-youma-monster-thing whatever, well, she'd have to pull the other one. It had pants on.
"I've seen t-those Negaverse things and they don't look like you. Tell her!" She turned to the other senshi, slightly hysteric and still very, very baffled.

Virgo had seen enough Negaverse agents to recognize one now, and she interposed herself between the redheaded senshi and the Negaverser. Her fight with Obsidian taught her that the Negaverse did their best to be brutal, to leave no survivors; she had no intention of letting this androgynously handsome officer kill a new senshi like the one behind her had to be.
She could take this officer. Well, she could try; it would give the girl behind her room to save herself. "My name is Sailor Virgo, Zodiac Senshi of Innocence," she said, lifting her chin slightly in challenge. To the other senshi, she said, "She's not lying. If she's an officer, she doesn't have to be ugly, you know."
The red-haired guy was.
"We'd prefer less kill-lunging," said Virgo, "We don't want to hurt you."

"I'm flattered," said Variscite. "Really, you have no idea how flattered I am to be told that I don't look like a youma."
Was that sarcasm?
"Really, my dear, didn't you just hear me? The Negaverse is beautiful, though our colors aren't as bright." Variscite went through her mental roster of the lovlier members of the Negaverse. Of course there was Nealite, her beautiful queen. With a turn in her stomach, she remembered how she doted on their General-King-- who really wasn't as beautiful.
She shook that image out of her head before thinking of more pleasant things. There was Moonstone, tall and lovely, with dark hair that she imagined smelled like the earth. Lovely. There was Linarite, who she wanted to talk dirty to. She'd even be willing to learn World of Warcraft lingo for her! Tanzanite, with her beautiful heels. Oh, her legs went on forever. Then there was Celestine-- oh, wait. Male.
Variscite was brought back into the current situation when Virgo spoke.
"Hurt me? Oh, my dear, I don't think you could hurt me if you even wanted to. Let's see... the Senshi of Innocence?"
Variscite smiled so that her teeth showed.
"Oh, I just want to eat you up."

Vanadis cowered behind Virgo totally on instinct (and where had she heard that name before?), but otherwise failed on the saving-herself part. "Uh, well, y-you're welcome?" Sarcasm wasn't her strong point.
Neither, apparently, was knowing her enemy. So.. the Negaverse didn't have to be ugly? They had ranks? That was good information, the sort that got stored in a little mental box for when things were less, you know, threatening.
"Y-you can't do that!" Outrage made cowardice take a backseat and Vanadis peer at Variscite again. "We r-really don't want to hurt you, but we will if you make us!"
Outrage also had the side-effect of leading to false bravado. Darn it. "We're two p-people and you're just one."

Virgo was puzzled. Why was this agent just talking to her? She was not going to play psychiatrist for another Negaverse officer, she'd gotten chewed out enough for talking Serandite that one time, and now she was going to get in trouble again. Admittedly, it was for stopping to talk to a strange senshi, leaving her patrol buddy to patrol alone. This was not as bad as meeting a negaverser alone and then consoling her.
"You have lovely uniforms," she said, trying to be cheerful. "Please let's not eat anyone. We'll come with you, right, Sailor..."
It occurred to her that she didn't know the new senshi's name. "Okay, Lieutenant," she finished instead.

"You have to be the most agreeable senshi I've ever met," said Variscite. "As skittish as your sweet friend is, you don't seem to mind dining with the Big Bad Wolf."
She reached out, claws outstretched and dangerous. With a sweep, she had Virgo in her arms and pressed to her chest.
"I can feel your heart fluttering against mine, beautiful maiden," whispered the lieutenant. "You're like a tiny sparrow that I want to keep in a jeweled cage."
Variscite turned around and started to walk with Virgo, until she turned around and reached out another claw-tipped hand to Vanadis.
"Come with me," she said. "I promise I'll give you proper warning before I attack. You are my guests, now, and hospitality is something I hold above all else."

They did have lovely uniforms. Vanadis felt a bit out of the loop, like someone had hoisted the carpet out from under her feet and then left her to float in nothingness.
It might be shock, she thought. Oh, Virgo was talking again, wasn't she? "Vanadis. I'm, um, Sailor Vanadis, Senshi of Wards." It was a bit of a belated reaction - the other senshi had already finished and she had, in the rules of social cues, already missed her shot.
It didn't much matter. The other two was hugging, now, and whispering (had she stumbled into some sort of Romeo and Juliet thing here?) and the floating feeling didn't get any better, so when Variscite turned to her, Vanadis followed entirely on instinct.
This was all sorts of screwed up, wasn't it? "Thanks.. I think. Um." She looked to Virgo, leaning on the other girl's superior knowledge to help her out. Because she was feeling really lost right about now.

Virgo didn't mind dining with the Big Bad Wolf because she knew that she could fully punch in the wolf's face if the wolf tried to do anything. She would have made this exceedingly complex allegory known to Variscite and Vanadis, except the Negaverse lieutenant was attacking--
Or maybe not. 'Flutteirng' was a delicate word to use for the way the senshi of Innocence's heart was pounding; her hands were caught between her body and Variscite's, fingertips against the delicate bronze necklace she wore. With wide eyes, and a blush that had spread to her collarbone, she stared mutely. A tiny... sparrow? Beautiful maiden?
Not even Andeon talked like that.
She wasn't sure she liked being so close to someone, especially a Negaverse agent. Virgo looked to Vanadis, green eyes a little strange with something like fear. "Don't worry about it," she said to the pink-haired senshi. Fighting wasn't necessary. She knew that she could escape if she had to... she could, right?

"I brought my limo with me," Variscite laughed as she led the two girls ahead. "So you'll have plenty of room to yourselves."
She turned on her heels and walked backwards as the car started to come into view.
"It's obvious that the both of you aren't comfortable around me, so... the more space, the better."
Variscite's words weren't comforting. Virgo was only following because she knew what she was: she was a Zodiac. Variscite didn't know WHO she was messing with. And Vanadis, poor Vanadis, was just petrified into submissive obedience.
Variscite opened the back door with an extra flourish, and-- wait, were those SPARKLES coming from her hair? Apparantly Edward Cullen paid Variscite out-of-court for using her sparkles.
Virgo bravely knelt down to climb into the limousine. Thinking that she had her catch, Variscite decided to bend the rules.
She promised not to attack. Love and war were similar, but there was a definite line in-between them. So, Variscite put a gentle index finger at the back of Virgo's neck and slowly ran it down her back. Lord only knows how low that finger would go.

She'd whimpered softly as the car came into view, scared out of her mind, out of her element and Virgo's "Don't worry about it." still swimming in her head.
Don't worry about it, don't worry about it, don't-- what was Variscite doing?! "Virgo..!" She sounded a lot more scared than what a common grope warranted, but this was Virgo. Who she was pretty sure was the only thing keeping her from being Negaverse-fodder tonight, if only because the other senshi seemed more talented, experienced and confident than she herself felt, who'd told her not to worry and had been nice to her even though she'd felt like a complete idiot since this whole encounter started.

The sparkles did a lot to reassure Virgo, oddly. Sparkles were an integral part of the senshi henshin, and thus a significant part of the senshi lifestyle. Nothing could be wrong that couldn't be corrected with sparkles, and so she trusted Variscite enough to enter the limo first.
She did not trust Variscite enough to ignore the touch of cold steel on the back of her neck. In fact, the fingertip had barely reached the tiny dip between her shoulder blades when the bluenette reacted, with a ferocious backhand such a tiny girl should not have been able to wield; she backed up, quickly, pulled Vanadis behind her. "Vanadis, stay behind me," she ordered, a snap in her tone that any fellow Zodiac would have found very confusing. Was this Virgo?

Variscite wasn't quite sure what had happened. One second, she was feeling the yield of soft fabric against her fingertips, and then... Had the senshi slammed the door out against her? No, this was hot, this was- she had been slapped.
The lieutenant went reeling, and eventually fell back and onto her behind with an inelegant "Oomph!"
There were stars in her vision before she finally focused on the two senshi that she -thought- she was going to score with.
"You little b***h!" Variscite roared. "At least I promised a warning! And here you all are, talking about your justice..."
Variscite slowly wobbled to her feet, a hand on her burning cheek.
"This is not justice!"
