[post one] Marco walked out from the thick treeline and observed his surroundings. There was an enormous chasm, carved by a thick river pouring over a cliff. Marco was already aware of the giant waterfall that was hundreds of feet high; he had heard it when he was deep in the forest. When he actually saw the beauty of the water rolling over the rock and breaking into a vibrant rainbow at the bottom, he was completely astonished.
Wow. I think I found a new thinking place... if only I could hear myself think over the sound of this gigantic waterfall. This place is wonderful! The waterfall cutting itself through the rock, surrounded by lush green forest and blue skies... its just beautiful. I definitely should have gone here for vacation instead of...
Marco cut the thought short and spoke out loud to himself, "Well on to happy things!" Marco abruptly stopped walking, sat down, crossed his legs, and waited for his opponent with his eyes closed.

[[Post one]] ((Awww, I wrote a massive post before but i couldn't finish because my class ended, and now you beat me to it. Oh well.))
As Hotaru lept down from the branches of the last tree he took in the local topography. Naturally, the first thing that caught his attention was the waterfall. He watched a leaf fall from a tree near the top, straining to keep up with it as it fell into the foam at the bottom of the cascading waters. When it finally faded from view in the churning foot of the waterfall he gave up and traced the river with his eyes, trying to get as much information from his eyes as they cold take in. There were several boulders, and thick patches of reeds growing from the riverbanks. There was a man, and a path leading off into the forest...
He blinked his eyes. Once, twice. Then it sank in.
"Oh, yeah," he blurted out loud, "that's what I came here for! That guy's probably Marco, over there. HEY MARCO!"
He waved his arms and hollered like an ADD child lost in Wal-Mart in an attempt to get the other man's attention.
"Here I am! I'm on the other side of the river!"
After a few pointless seconds of making an a** out of himself, he figured that Marco probably couldn't hear him over the sound of the roaring waterfall. He backed up, took a running leap, and did a hop-skip-and-a-jump across the rocks sticking out of the river. He landed behind his opponent and tapped him on the shoulder.

[post two] ((sorry about that... i just wanted to get it started because of our limited time...))
When Marco felt a light rapping on his shoulder, he opened one eye slowly, then the next. After the brief five second process of waking up from his catnap, he turned his head to see who had woken him. He looked the man up and down and observed his lean stature and ruffled hair.
Well this looks like my kinda guy! Hes about as unofficial as you can get with that pink sash. Maybe I can not mess this up like I did with Charles.
Talking louder than normal so he could be heard over the oppressing rumble of the waterfall, Marco addressed his opponent. "Well 'ello love. I'm going to make the safe assumption that you are here to duel with me. Nobody really does come this far out just to say hi, now do they?"
Marco unfolded his legs and stretched them out into a 'v' shape then went through a short stretch routine; touching one toe, then the other. He stood up straight and continued his habitual stretch. He cracked his neck, then his back, and all ten knuckles. After a couple minutes, Marco turned to face whoever had woken him and made eye contact.
"Sorry about that, I didn't mean to keep you waiting. Just a bad habit I can't seem to get rid of. I'm Marco, and you are?" He held out his hand in a friendly gesture with a smile on his face, hoping things would go well.

[[Post Two]] When Hotaru saw the outstretched hand he unconciously reached for his money bag that was hidden away in his pink obi. He stopped himself when he realized he was about to pay back a guy he'd only just met. He smiled sheepishly and reversed his hand back to the other man's. He shook his hand with a grip that was firm enough to say he wasn't a wuss, but soft enough to say he wasn't overly aggressive either.
"Heh heh, force of habit," he explained.
As they shook he felt the strength in his opponent's arm. If he were a worrying man, Hotaru might have been, well, worried. But he wasn't. He was a drinking man. So he did what drinking men are wont to do and took a swig from his sake gourd with his left hand even as he shook with his right. He saw a gleam in Marco's eyes as the other man watched him wet his whistle. As far as Hotaru could figure he was checking him out just as much as Hotaru was doing to him.
Hmm, he though to himself, I could swear his eyes just changed color...
"I don't mean to be rude," he said, motioning with his gourd, "I just need a little something every once in a while."
Satisfied with what he had gathered from the handshake, he let go and reached for his sword, drawing it out rather lazily considering he was intending to use it. He spun it around a little and looked sideways at his opponent.
"Well, we should probably get this show in the road. Go for it whenever you're ready," he told his opponent as he made a come on motion with a sideways tilt of his head.

[post three] Well that was interesting, I wonder what he is stashed away in there... Marco's eyes became fixated on the vibrant pink color for a moment, then his focus wandered back to eye contact.
Marco was, and always has been, a great judge of character and already knew this guy inside and out. His opponent wasn't an overly strong man, but Marco imagined him to be quite nimble and swift in his movements. While the two men shook hands his suspicions were confirmed, and Marco's internal argument as to whether or not his opponent was a threat was silenced. He knew that he would have to put forth some effort toward the fight, but he also knew that he had been through much, much worse.
"It's only rude when you don't offer some of your liquid courage," Marco commented with clear sarcasm and a smirk, "I hope that your drinking is more of a lifestyle than a nervous habit. It never pays to be nervous right before a fight. It makes you very tense... And ya know, I never caught your name..."
Marco closed his eyes and sighed, Well if you ask me to make the first move without even knowing your name, I must oblige...
When Marco's voice and thoughts faded off as they often do; he took a step forward and simultaneously swung at his opponent. A very fast thrust, but he sacrificed power for speed to get the fight started.

[[Post Three]] He dropped his body swiftly to avoid the thrust, angling it so that the blade passed over his shoulders. He extended his left palm outwards towards his opponent's gut in an attempt to hit his diaphragm hard enough to knock the wind out of him. He figured this was a good strategy, as in most fights he observed a fighter would exhale as they struck. If he hit hard enough he could end it right here.
The first hit is the most important, he thought to himself, as it often negates the need for a second.
He winced as Marco's sword sliced about a quarter inch into his right shoulder. He hadn't expected his opponent to be that fast, but he had expected to be able to expect nothing. It was still wrong of him to underestimate him. Typical anime character mistake.
As his hand drove towards Marco's abdomen, he squinted and shouted, "Hotaru Noboru! You should have read the ANNOUNCEMENT!!!"

[post four] [My zanpakuto is similar to a naginata in its sealed form, and I didn't draw any blade in the first place. I was just throwing a punch.]
Marco's fist missed his target, but his knuckles barely made contact with Hotaru's right shoulder. His forward step with his left foot had given him more momentum, and also gave him more control over the distribution of his body weight and center of gravity. Upon Hotaru's yelling, Marco knew that he was about to make a move. With his current stance, his abdomen was the most vulnerable, so Marco prepared himself. He took a breath in, flexed his abs, and leaned forward; within a little less than a second, he was braced for the impact.
Hotaru's open palm made contact with Marco's lowest ribs, and when it did, the breath Marco had drawn in moments before was released as the pressure on his lower chest increased. It was a trick he had learned from Angela, and it greatly reduced the force of impact from Hotaru's palm. The remainder of the blow was little enough for Marco to completely ignore. As Hotaru's attack was nullified, Marco used his free hand to grab hold of the wrist that had just stuck his diaphragm and throw it off to the side, knocking Hotaru off balance. The other arm was used as a counterweight for his retaliation. Marco pivoted on his left foot as he brought his right foot up for a kick back at Hotaru's lower ribs.

[[Post Four]] ((My humblest apologies! *bows low* I have read your profile, it's just I have goldfish memory. Also, sorry about the misunderstanding about punch/sword thrust. That was just my bad. I won't change it though, because I'm pretty sure it's bad form to do that in an rp. Sorry.))
It wasn't such a big surprise for Hotaru when his attack did nothing, but it was a disappointment.
In order to get an advantageous position, Hotaru decided to go ahead and let the kick hit him. He immediately regretted doing so, as the force was sufficient to crack what sounded like at least two ribs. He cringed but spun with the kick so that the force was channeled down the length of his ribs rather than into his gut. He could afford a little pain, but losing his breath was too big of a disadvantage to allow. He tossed his zanpakutou to his left hand, and finished his rotation with the first two fingers of his right hand pressed against Marco's right shoulder, just between the deltoid and bicep, making sure to avoid any vital spots (They were on the same team after all).
"Hadou number four. Byakurai." he said with a little difficulty due to his cracked ribs. White lightning surged out of his hand and down his fingers towards it's target.

[post five] ((Haha it's fine. I probably wouldn't change it either... I think that would count against you in the judging.))
Marco heard Hotaru speak again, he had the advantage of knowing he was about to strike. All Marco needed to hear to react accordingly to the attack was "hado." He combined that knowledge with Hotaru's advancement toward his shoulder with two fingers to come come to the following conclusion. I need to move, now. Just as Marco felt the pressure on his shoulder, he pivoted on his left foot in the clockwise direction, causing the hado to erupt past his shoulder. As he pivoted, he slipped kazeyoke from his back with his left hand and swung the blunt end at Hotaru's lower right ribs.

[[Post Five]] As the blast of electricity roared out of his hand it hit cleanly. Hit a whole lot of air that is ((Did you read that first line and thought I had autohit? Haha...)). He had expected to at least wound Marco, and so was left wide open. He now had only an instant to deal the business end of the non-business end of Marco's Naginata. Using the still moving energy in his body he pointed at the ground and let loose one more Kido.
((Their is no known incantation so just insert one here or go with what I'm about to write. If the guild gets one later ignore mine.))
"A clash of arms, a force edging out the enemy, Hadou number one, Sho!" He shouted.
Normally this spell would push it's target away from the caster, but the ground, being quite big, didn't move. Instead it was Hotaru who was pushed, rocketing up into the air just as the pole swept a neat little crescent through the spot his body had been occupying moments before.
He caught a tree that was jutting out of the cliffside fifty or so feet up. The waterfall sprayed his face with little droplets as he planned his next move in the precious moments this delay tactic had bought him.

[post six] Marco's miss made him lose his balance for a few moments, but he regained his equilibrium and turned toward the direction Hotaru flew away to. Marco held his naginata in his right hand now, and he brought up his left arm to shake his finger at Hotaru.
"You know, if you were close enough to hear me, I would come up with a clever quip about kido. But seeing as how you are all the way over there..." Marco's permanent smirk grew to a giant toothy smile when he got an idea. "I know this would annoy me, so I just have to do it... Hado number four, Byakurai."
As Marco uttered the last few words of his sentence his left index finger went from shaking in disappointment, to aiming at the little tree Hotaru was now perched on. Marco pointed at the base, and shortly after the bolt discharged, he saw the lightning strike in the middle of the trunk. Marco shook his head, disappointed with his aim. "I wish that I had a kido sniper rifle or something. That'd be sweet... Well, not much I can do from all the way over here then." Marco leaned on his zanpakuto and waited for Hotaru to come back and launch another assault.

[[Post Six]] At first, the tree withstood the strain of having a lightning bolt hit it while it was supporting a man-sized weight. But it was a little tree, and wasn't used to dealing with this sort of thing. It groaned and creaked for a moment, and started to droop.
I just know this tree is taunting me, Hotaru thought to himself while crossing his fingers over the handle of his zanpakutou.
The tree, after much complaining, finally snapped under the pressure. Hotaru hurtled straight downwards at a breakneck speed, hoping to heaven that breakneck speed didn't mean what he thought it meant, given the situation.
In a desperate effort remain ignorant of the answer to his ponderings, he stabbed his blade into the cliffside like he had seen in an old movie as a kid. At first it only kicked dirt and rocks into his face, but slowly, not-so-surely, his descent was slowed. Unexpectedly, his sword caught on a snag in the side of the precipice, and was jarred out of his hands. He fell the rest of the way without a means of stopping (besides the ground of course). He said a little prayer about being sorry for alcohol and gambling (but not booty grabbing, THAT was worth it).
To his great surprise, he landed mostly in one piece, injuring only his dignity as his rear collided with the earth. He looked up and realized his sword had jammed a mere six feet up. He jumped up to grab it and kicked off the wall, wrenching the blade free before hitting the ground rolling. He popped up into what he thought was a decent battle stance, which is to say his sword was between him and Marco.
"Did you see that? I'm blackmailing Lady Luck with revealing photos! It looks like today is just a good day for me!" he shouted at Marco to be silly and at himself to give himself a confidence boost.

[post seven] Marco saw the tree snap off in the distance and thought to himself, Oh damn, I wasn't expecting that. Marco watched as Hotaru plummeted down a decent distance. He wanted to help Hotaru but thought better of it, thinking that he needed to be able to handle himself in a situation against an opponent who really wanted to kill him. Marco wasn't trying to but it seemed as if he was close... So, Marco observed from a distance to see how Hotaru handled it, and was mildly impressed by the unseated squad member. Hotaru popped back up over the cliff side, and after his comment about lady luck, Marco yelled back,
"Don't give her all your wild cards, this is just the beginning! You haven't even been through half of the crap that Maxi and Vicky have put me through! That, and you haven't even seen my shikai..."A slight breeze was forming when Marco closed his eyes as his Naginata dissipated. It completely vanished into air for a moment, but then it began to materialize on Marco's fingertips. Hard by shard
"Yeah, yeah I know it doesn't look like much but just wait till you see what they can do..." Marco began a silent conversation with the newly formed gauntlets, asking for their power, and as usual there was no reply... at first. Ugh... I'll just have to give you some physical action first. How do you want it kazeyoke? Some blunt punches or sharp jabs? Just talk to me so you can work with me instead of impeding your own ability to fight. It makes no sense really. Hey now... you're the one who sucks. That's the first thing you choose to say to me? Thanks buddy. So you think I impede my own ability to fight? Ever thought it was your fault? Show me that it is. Gimme all you got kazeyoke... I dare you.
You're gonna regret that.
Marco's reiatsu exploded from his body, quite violently. It was an unusual color for him, a very sharp light blue. Most of his clothes erupted away and burned off in air, leaving Marco with a bare chest and a barely recognizable shinigami uniform. The shockwave pushed a circular dimple into the ground, three inches or so into the earth beneath his feet and the burst of energy also pushed away a decent amount of air, creating a large rush of wind from every direction as it rushed back to its original place. When the world around him began to calm down he could focus on other things, like the same ice blue reiatsu emanating from his body.
Well then, that kinda hurt. You asked for it, moron. Oh come on. Do I really deserve that? Show me what else you got. Moron.
Marco's fingertips started to burn... he was focusing his reiatsu into his gauntlets, and suddenly all his seeping reiatsu disappeared. In the same moment, all of his power blew out of his hands, toward the posterior side of his body. Once the short surge stopped, reiatsu was swirling around the length of Marco's forearms along the path of the tattoo. Once it reached his elbow, it flew off and dissipated. Say kaze kara and you'll know what to do. You've shown me this move before... Knowing this incantation will make it stronger. Do as I say.
Marco leaned down and got into a track star stance. With a surge of anger and other emotions, he said aloud, "Kaze Kara." The gauntlets manipulated the air pressure in front of Marco, causing the pressure behind him to be much, much greater. He pushed off with both feet at the same moment of the incantation, making the small dimple in the ground turned into a wide area of flying rocks and cracked earth. Without the incantation, he would have fallen on his face as he did many times in training. This time, he rocketed toward Hotaru with his right arm and sharpened gauntlet pointed directly at Hotaru's gut.
((the conversations between Marco and Kazeyoke are in Marco's head and are always instantaneous from other peoples perspective, and all of this would have happened in a shorter time than i make it seem.))
