It was a fairly common day, or so he'd claim if directly asked. He woke up early, went through his math exercises once to make sure he got them memorized, made some breakfast for Alexis after attempting to wake her up for the billionth time and getting the same reply -that she would get up in just five minutes-, and headed to school. And school rolled through quite fine as well, but it being Friday he eventually found himself with nothing much to do.
He was pondering over whether he should or shouldn't head home and start on his homework early but he wasn't feeling quite like it on the moment. He felt he'd rather stay outside despite the chill lingering in the air. Pulling his coat tight around him, he proceeded to walk his way to the nearest shopping district. He wasn't in need of something in particular... and if worse came to worse he could simply just get some more tea leaves to add to his variety of existing flavours. Maybe he'd even get to visit the library to lend some kind of book. The possibilities were endless and hopefully he could maybe run into his classmates and go for some coffee or something similar together.
Getting somewhat excited over nothing, he proceeded to walk off fast in order to be able to warm up in the meantime. If he was the one to catch a cold at a time like this he wouldn't get to hear the end of it from his mother... not to mention Alexis was going to poke fun at him for at least the rest of the month...

She was running. Pushing herself harder than she had in a while. Wind brushed back her hair and the chilled air hung around her sweaty body. After school had ended she decided it was for the best to take a run downtown rather than brood at home as she had gotten accustomed to. Today she swore it would be different. With a smile on her face she headed into the shopping district.
Distracted, she kept her feet going glancing into the shops as she passed. Music store, clothing, candy... she would love to stop off and shop. Or at least take a trip window shopping. Smiling again, she turned. Suddenly her eyes went wide as she attempted to skid to a stop. Slowing, she gritted her teeth to try and completely pull back against momentum. ...No such luck.
Down to the ground she went, landing back on her tush with a thud. Rubbing her lower back she glanced back at who she had toppled over. She managed a mumbled, "Sorry." but it was muffled by the pain of the fall.

Ciel wasn't really one to be proud about his ability to pay attention to things.... and certainly enough, his reflexes weren't that great outside of the kitchen -where he could rush in to rescue the cake from the oven at just the right time to prevent a catastrophe, for example. So there really was no way to actually avoid the girl that came running at him. Before he knew it, he had been snapped out of his thoughts and the next thing he felt was his rear colliding with the asphalt underneath him.
He flinched for a moment and winced in pain, but hearing the girl apologize about it right away -despite that she sounded like she was in pain too- he did his best to pull himself together and get back upon his feet so that he could, in turn, help her up. "I-it's okay..." he mumbled, still trying to get to the first part of the action he had previously planned in his mind only to find out that his feet didn't quite obey him that willingly. His futile tries ended up with him awkwardly pulling himself up, like a child that fell and scraped their knee, using his hands for maximum support. That was slightly embarrassing but it couldn't be helped. Since things turned out the way they did there was no room for feeling shame for your own athletic abilities, was there?
Finally getting to the second part of what he wanted to do he held out a hand for the stranger that just bumped into him in order to help her up. He even managed to flash her an awkward idea of a smile while doing so. "Are you okay?" he asked, a slight tinge of worry in his voice.

Hearing the softness in the stranger's voice soothed Karmi's nerves, but couldn't chase away her feelings of embarrassment or frustration of tripping into someone again. "I'm alright, but my ego isn't." she said, rather bluntly for someone with her cheer factor. Taking a hold of his hand firmly she managed to pull herself up, wiping away the dusk, not to mention her attitude, she smiled at her helper. "Thank you." she said, nicely this time around. "Sorry I flattened you on the sidewalk."
Taking one hand behind her head she nervously placed her hair back into place rather than leaving behind the disheveled mess of hair to mat itself into a knot. She giggled a little to break the tension, though she knew it must have come off strangely. "I'm having a bit of bad karma lately... so..." she stopped herself from rambling on. "I don't think I caught your name." Blinking, she finally got a good look at the boy. He seemed calm but a little shy. Smiling warmly at his demeanor, she held out a hand. "I'm Karmi."

Ciel smiled warmly. He wasn't used in being treated carefully by girls as most of the girls that were close friends of his were something less than actually gentle in any way. "You don't need to blame yourself, I'm pretty bad at evading too..." he chuckled lightly, his cheeks tinted a light pink from embarrassment at his own general fail. He wasn't sure that his comment did anything to help their awkward situation but hey, he was actually trying to break the ice there.
He wondered if it would be rude to ask if she really believed in karma and things when she mentioned it. He was curious about it as he happened to know the concept vaguely but never actually ran into someone that would take it seriously. Then again... he had just met with the girl so he was under the threat of coming off as blunt and rude and Ciel really didn't want to give a bad first impression. He eventually let it rest in the back of ihs head making a mental note to maybe ask sometime later if it came up in the conversation.
"I..." he trailed off in an unsure manner, having been caught off guard as he was lost in his thoughts when the girl extended her hand at him introducing herself. "I'm Ciel. Ciel Southworth." he managed to say offering his own hand for a handshake. "S-so..." he mumbled Why were you running?" he asked slightly tilting his head to the side in a questioning motion.

Shaking his hand vigorously, she nodded to his name. "That's a nice name." Then the question, "Oh," she said, then with a smile, "I run everywhere I go. It's one of the few things I enjoy." Perhaps that was too frank, Karmi bit her lip a little and moved back again. He seemed genuine to her, maybe she should tone it down a little. "I'm on the track team at school." She said, a little softer this time.
Studying him, she could fit his face into one of the many she'd seen passing in the hallways. Did they have a class together? Maybe if school came up she'd ask him politely. She wasn't prepared to have a "Haven't you noticed me before?" come up into the conversation, so she avoided the notion altogether.
Clearing her throat a little she perked up with eyes shining brightly. "So, out here shopping?" she asked, pushing the attention further away from her mowing him over on the sidewalk. She was always seeking new friends, being alone too often made her vulnerable, her eyes met his again. Maybe she'd found a shopping buddy.

Ciel flushed slightly at being told his name was nice. It wasn't like it was something overly special or anything... it was mostly due to the fact that someone pointed it out that made him feel strange about it. He wasn't one hundred percent sure about the way he was meant to react to that. Slightly surprised by the girl's reply he managed to hold back some laughter that just begged to be expressed when she tried to explain. "I think that's wonderful." he noted with a nod of the head. "I can't run for long myself..." he trailed off to underline his previous sentence.
Hiding both hands in his pockets to keep his fingers from falling off due to the cold air, he took the few moments of silence in between the conversation to do a brief mental search on topics of interest. After all it would be pretty awkward if they were to suddenly run out of subjects. Having dealt with many embarrassing moments he could safely say he'd rather keep away from another one.
He made haste to nod when asked about shopping, even though he did risk coming of as strange because of it. Not many people understood him well when it came to his hobbies. "Tea leaves mostly..." he mumbled. Noticing that this slipped him before he could think it twice he mentally slapped himself. 'Great... now she'll think I'm some sort of weird tea fetishist.' "S-Since you're here... does this mean you were also going shopping?" he questioned in an attempt to quickly change the subject. "Maybe... Maybe we can go together... or something..." he suggested.
((sorry for the extremely slow reply... again... since about everything RL has been dealt with, my pace should speed up considerably much~ ))
