The sunny afternoon found Billy Jukes walking through the forest, seemingly aimlessly until he stopped to listen to an ordinary noise or blink at something as ordinary as a ladybug on a tree. He didn't trust anything in this strange new world; if it played by the same rules as his world, he was right to be cautious. He wasn't even sure what it was he was looking for. His world was gone, and with it his shipmates, his enemies, and anything he had ever known. Even his body was gone, replaced by fur and a tail. It vaguely reminded him of when he had been turned into a fairy during one of his shore leaves, though he thought wings were much more fun than any tail. Still, at least it was quiet here, with no one to shout at him for imagined wrongs or hoist him up by his bandanna and choke him. Finally he came to a stop beneath a large tree, one that reminded him of the Lost Boys' hideout. But he knew, and he was surprised that the thought caused his new ears to droop, that there were no Lost Boys to be found here.

Ridra had been sitting quietly, holding her rose in front of her and studying it lightly while letting herself get lost in thought. Other than her own being, the only reminder of her family that she had seen in any near amount of time was her rose, which she held close at all times.
She traced one of the petals with her tail tip, repressing a small sigh. Neither her fathers nor her brothers had been in the clearing, so she had taken to wandering through the forest in search of them. At least one of her fathers was an adventurer, so she could only assume they had gone off together, and her brothers either adventuring with them or on their own.
It had never really hit her before that she was the only female in her family. She blinked wryly at the rose, thinking that the only reason she would be left behind was because she was now a 'woman' and different from her siblings. But then she shook her head; if she were truly her fathers' daughter she would know better than to assume anyone could keep her from adventuring if she so desired and if she truly wanted to go on one, she would.
"So," she asked her rose, "Why am I still here?"

Billy's ears perked as he thought he heard a voice coming from the thickness of the trees. It didn't sound familiar, but it did sound female, and for some reason that gave him hope. He was too far into the woods for it to be a mermaid, and he didn't know any other unfriendly females. The important thing was it wasn't anyone he knew who would be furious for his absence and would seek him out and punish him. He trotted in the direction he thought the voice had come from. "Hello?" he called out, just as he reached a spot where a flash of red caught his eye. He quickly backed himself into a bush and peered curiously through the leaves at the creature with the rose, both suddenly frightened and fascinated.

She had begun searching for reasons she was still where she was and not adventuring when she thought she heard a voice from somewhere around her. Looking up from her rose, she twitched her ears to listen more closely for another being before replying politely, "Hello? Did someone call out?" It was not in her nature to be gruff with strangers she did not know, or be gruff with anyone who hadn't picked a fight for that matter, which reminded her that she had never actually been in a real fight.
Her ears drooped a little and she scolded herself. Here she was calling herself an adventurer in her mind and imagining all of these fun things she would like to say she had done, when in truth she had done nothing of note at all so far in her life.

Billy found his ears perking up at the sound of the voice. It seemed so polite, so friendly. It spoke of someone rational and levelheaded, and perhaps someone who knew what in the world was going on with this place. He peered out just a bit, enough to get a better look at the speaker. She certainly looked like a creature that had once been a person, though he was certain it was nobody from where he was from. He would definitely remember such a girl from his island.
Plucking up his courage, he ventured calling out again. "Ahoy there, cully! What do you call yourself?" Okay, so it may not have been the best way to address a girl, but it wasn't as though he spoke to girls everyday.

Ridra cocked her head to the side, not knowing if she had just been insulted or not, "What is a 'cully'? My name is Ridra, what is yours?"
The voice sounded as if it were coming from someplace behind her, but she didn't turn her head for fear of spooking the other off. It had been so long since she had actually spoken to another Namir, even if it were someone who had just insulted her, which she thought very sad of herself. The strong, wild woman she had insisted herself to be up until a few minutes ago would never have replied so cordially. But, as she had thought, she was not that woman, she was no where even close right now.

Billy couldn't help but blink at the reply; even the Lost Boys knew what a cully was. And so much for his rather feeble attempt to sound the least bit intimidating. "Er.......cully's a shipmate. And I'm Billy Jukes." Figuring it would be exceedingly rude to remain hidden now that they exchanged names, Billy slowly walked out of the bushes, unconsciously wiggling an ear to shake off a leaf.
At least now he could get an unobstructed view of the girl. She sure had pretty red hair. It reminded him of a mermaid he saw once, only friendlier. There was nothing worse than being surrounded by unfriendly fish-girls, especially when you couldn't even swim.
