Devicius sighed as he lay on the mossy banks of a small stream. The moss was soft and cushion-like, and since the spring rains had washed the debris of winter from the tiny, sponge-like plants, he could lay upon them without worrying that he'd dirty his beautiful coat. The tree canopy broke just above the stream, allowing strong rays of sunlight to filter through and shine on the sparkling water. The sun felt warm on his back, on the feathers of his wings. This was his favorite place to bask in the otherwise gloomy forest.
"It seems as if I'll not be preying on any unsuspecting beauties this day," he murmured, his velvety, slightly accented voice hinting a smile. He closed his eyes and let the warmth of the sun flow over his flawless body--an act that rarely pleased him as much as it did now. He usually did not care for the sun; the sun was hot, and made one sweat, which in turn could ruin one's physical appearance. But the say was cool, and the heat was welcome now. Besides, laying on the cool ground as he was--everything felt perfect. Simply perfect, almost as perfect as he.
"Ahhhh..." he sighed, stretching his wings as he relaxed his muscles even more.

 Carnivale was just downstream, splashing about directly in the water, paying no mind to mess she was making. The water still carried a chill from winter, but overall was clean and clear and a sheer delight for the young mare to play in. Her grandmother, though she didn't know her, was Kelpi - and though she didn't require an aquatic habitat to survive - Carnivale had always found the water fascinating. It was free and flowing and capricious and unharnessable.
She shook her mane - so course and thick it was it was virtually dry by the time she pranced out of the water an into the dancing sun cutting through the trees. The light danced over the banks and the grass, and to her surprise, a surprisingly bright and magnificent stallion. "Greetings!" she called out - with no sense of shyness.

The sudden greeting broke Devicius from his trance-like state, and for a moment, he almost considered turning to berate this inferior being which had disturbed his peace. But of course, once he laid his sharp blue eyes on the mare standing on the stream bank not too far away, his intentions went in a whole new direction, and his expression softened to what some would consider a "sly kindness".
"Why, hello there, young miss..." he purred, his velvety voice slightly accented in a smooth, alluring fashion. His eyes roamed over her body; she was smaller than most mares he had seen, leading him to believe that she was still young. She was not what one would call elegant, but she was beautiful in her own way, a way that made Devicius' mind yearn to lure her in. Her bright coat was glorious, as was her full, snow white mane. It looked so soft... he wanted to feel it, so very much. But, as always, he would have to move slowly. No need to rush into anything, and frighten her off...
He rose lazily from the ground, stretching his wings open, and then folding them snugly to his sides. His many trinkets tinkled and chimed as they were disturbed, and then they became quiet once again. He shook his mane gently, letting the curls fall perfectly into place. And then he looked forward, locking his eyes onto hers, and smiled.
"It is rare to chance upon another soul at this place. But the presence of one so stunning is very welcome, indeed." He moved forward, moving ever so slowly, like a slinking cat, and stopped a few feet in front of her. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, my lady. I am Devicius; what may I call you?"

Carnivale's eyes were singing as she let them roam over him, entranced by all his feathers and trinkets. Her smile didn't waver as she watched him, instead it held its genuine warmth. It wasn't until he spoke with a voice so smooth that she felt a little twinge of .... something. She let her head tilt, her mane spilling over the curve of her shoulders.
"Devicius..." she said, testing the way his name sounding in her voice. "My name is Carnivale!"

Devicius edged closer, surprised that the young mare held no trace of concern for her own well-being. Most mares didn't trust him at first, and he often had to sweet talk them and earn their trust--perhaps this one would be an easier catch!
"Carnivale, is it? A suiting name--a symbol of liveliness and beauty, and anyone can see that you possess those very qualities." He was almost directly in front of her, and he could smell her. Her scent was young and fresh; untouched. A sort of possessiveness came over him, but he fought it back. No need to spoil the fun too soon.
"And where do you come from, miss Carnivale?"
