So, uh, me and my dad were chopping carrots for dinner.
And we both cut our fingers pretty bad... Not emergency room bad, but it took about 5 minutes for them to stop bleeding. And before you say how stupid we are, my dad is the stupid one. he kept chopping them witth the same chopper. A smart person would have stopped, but no.
Now why I post this here: My finger is bad enough that I have to have a band-aid on it. Problem is, I play clarinet. Even worse, I have regionals auditions on saturday. So, i need help. Anybody have a way i can bandage my wound while still being able to play(Already tried as it is now, and it doesn't work>.>)? Anyone know a way to make it heal faster so I don't have t worry about it? Or am I completely screwed at regionals once again?
Yeah, apparently, i'm not meant to have a good regioanls audition>.> Last year, my mouthpiece was broken and I didn't have my spare, and this year, this happens. Just watch, I'm going to break my arm before drum major auditions. I'm pretty much sure of it now.

Maybe use gauze instead of a band-aid? The gauze would be more flexible than a band-aid, and you could just tape it on the back where the end of the gauze is so your finger wouldn't be slippery.

And maybe it'll heal really quickly! That happened to me with a bad cut once.

The main problem is that when there is anything between my instrument and my finger, my instrument won't play confused

Pointer(Next to the thumb) I'm hoping it will heal quickly. it would porbably help if me and my dad were more...first-aid knowledgable. My mom is the healer of our family, even if she is technically a veterinarianXD She should be able to help a bit, but now me and my dad are afraid to take our band aids off, because we are afraid it will reopen the wounds and they will start bleeding again.

So, just a quick update before I go to bed:
My finger looks extremely gross(swollen, bloody, just completely ew), but it has stopped bleeding and doesn't hurt as much. I braved taking the old bandage off and put on a new one, which I have managed to wear during band without as much of a problem as the other kind of bandage(fabric bandages work better then plastic ones, I have found. The old one was plastic, and multiple bandages because it is right on the fingertip. This new one is fabric and a specially made fingertip bandage,so it fits better and makes it easier to play)
My only hope is that itdoesn't get infected and it feels better by saturday. And that I can play, but with a new bandage, being able to play is a higher possibility, it just won't sound all too prettyXD

well, if this isn't too late, make sure you clean it. use some hydrogen peroxide, and if you don't have that..rubbing alcohol works but hurts a lot. if you can "man up", so to speak, you could scrub it with soap..but just make sure it's clean. once it's clean, it should have no problem staying closed and then you should be safe to play your clarinet without a bandage on your finger, at least for a little while. to be clear, where exactly on the finger is the cut? on the finger tip?

It is cut from the finger nail to the center of my tip(The part you are supposed to have closing the keys)

Yeah, use some of that stuff to clean it out. The burning means it's working! xd Neosporin should help prevent infection, too.
That's the problem with clarinet...closing the holes. xd For me it is, at least. My friend let me play on hers, and I can't play low notes because the ring finger on my right hand is too thin (for the hole on her clarinet, at least). xd Good luck, though. :]

If you care about regionals enough, you could just take off the bandage during your audition and try to ignore the pain while you play.

Hehe, that too. Except it seems less...exciting when you have done it before. I made it last year. It was fun, like a lot of fun, but this year it is like: Will it be as fun this year?
Except I am determined to do one thing: Beat my sl again. I beat her last year(freshman year) and so I'm really hoping to beat her again. She said she would cry if I beat her out again. All the more reason to try and beat her! I want to see her cry. It would be entertining.
Wow, I sound realy devilish

Miss Clarinet If you care about regionals enough, you could just take off the bandage during your audition and try to ignore the pain while you play. This is what I was going to say. Maybe you can just explain the story to them, take off the bandage and play through the pain. (If it's not too painful) And maybe the adjudicators will be like, "Hey! She has just the dedication we need... bla bla bla" Just a suggestion. razz

I've been playing through the pain for the past few days, seeing as my bd was having everybody play small mock auditions during class(no regionals=scales)

Get the liquid bandaid stuff or well its the worst possible thing for the wound but don't even wear a bandaid... deal with the pain and if it bleeds.... um tell them your very dedicated that will earn you brownie points... but on a serious note try liguid bandaid or use duct tape over a band aid it will help keep air from escaping and it won't slip about.... but make sure the duct tape fits perfectly to the hurt finger you will have issues.
rofl BTW good luck!!!
