Linkin Park isn't that bad. And you sort of learn to like the stuff you hear a lot. (Oooh I have to be able to talk about that, cultural perception of consonance and dissonance &c &c...)

Ooh no, I could beat anyone at guilty pleasures.
Mika? Black Eyed Peas? A band I recently discovered called Stolen Babies (of all things)? Final Fantasy music? McFly? I don't know if Panic count as a guilty pleasure but I love them. And all the minimosher music like Blink and Greenday and Rammstein... hmm... good stuff.

I think you just have a skewed perception of what you should be guilty about.that big bold bit. It's not about the mainstream. The mainstream is fine. It's the musical and lyrical merit of what you're listening to. The Gorillaz are actually very very good musically. If you had said BritnaySpurrz, then you would have had something to be guilty about.

Mm what is it with people thinking that having good music taste = not liking mainstream music? I mean, there might be a lot of s**t in the charts but there's a reason that stuff gets popular. Obscure music may be more interesting sometimes, but it's not like your entire CD collection has to be stuff you can only get for £30 off the internet.
And to be honest, I get more embarrassed when people ask what sort of music I like and I have to prefix it with "Well, you might not have heard of them..."
