Usiku paced back and forth in anger. She had been together with Subu for quite a while now since he had nursed her back to health after that blasted lion beat her up. She loved him...well most of the time. Every now and then he would do something that would irritate her beyond everything else and she would be extremely mad at him for several days. Though they always made up in the end. She just couldn't stay mad at him for long no matter how much she tried.

Now fighting over a botched hunt or something he had said was one thing. But what had her angry today was something she could not easily forget or forgive him for. Usiku was no expert on this particular subject but there were undeniable signs to tell her she wasn't just imagining it. This was all Subu's fault, she thought angrily. How dare he do this to her. Speaking of Subu where they hell was that damn dog. Her pacing intensified a bit. If he left her because of this...well she wasn't sure why he would. After all he didn't even know about it yet. But that did beg the question. What if he wasn't happy with this news? What would she do then? A low rumble escaped her as she continued to pace, she would give Subu a piece of her mind when she saw him again.

Subu came prancing through the tall grass humming a merry tune around the hare he had clamped in his jaw's - he was bringing it to Usiku as he'd come across it in his morning lark and thought it might make a nice gift to start the day with. However as he got closer to his purple mate it became quickly apparent that Usiku was mad about something. Subu furrowed his brow and slakened his pace slightly as he cast his mind backwards - had he done anything this morning to set her off? Not that he could recall but with Usiku that didn't always mean anything.

Giving her a cheery look as he came up he set the hare down on the ground before her and licked his lips "Are we not having a good morning?" He asked her as she paced about "Perhaps a nice juicy hare will cheer you up..." He ventured

Her ears pinned back against her head as she heard Subu coming. Eyes narrowed as he came up to her, dropping the hare nearby. She stopped her pacing for a moment at his question. "Of course I'm not having a good morning. Does it look like I'm having a good morning?" Men! she thought with a shake of her head. Usiku's eyes moved to the hare laying nearby. She felt her stomach lurk at the sight and smell of it and quickly took a few steps away.

"No, that will not help me cheer up either." Now a bit further away from the smell of the hare she felt a bit better but her stomach still threatened to do something very unpleasant. She went back to pacing for a few moments, how she was going to break the news to Subu was still quite a bit of a mystery. Her mind racer over the different ways to word it, she could be as detailed or subtle as she wanted to. But in the end she worried that this news might not be what he wanted to hear and just might up and leave her over it. Then what would she do.

Coming to a stop she lowered herself down on her haunches before looking at Subu, careful not to let her eyes fall upon the hares carcass. "You love me right?" She asked him. It would probably seem like an odd and out of the blue question but she needed to know for sure before she told him.

Subu had expected Usiku to fuss at him for stating the obvious like that, she had always found that somewhat annoying and really you'd thnk he'd have learned to stop doing so by now - but hey old habits die hard. He was somewhat confused by her reaction to the hare however - Usiku usually loved hare's and this one was so nice and tender and juicy, sticking out a paw she squished it a little. Yes definitely plump, he certainly didn't see why she wouldn't want it.

Still trying to figure out why she was acting so strangely Subu turned a quizzical look towards her, his head tipped slightly in thought. "Of course I love you, don't be silly" He told her as she continued to act strangely - perhaps she had eaten a poisonous plant, he'd heard a few stories about such things and one o the side effects always seemed to be strange behavior...that wouldn't be good and his eyes pinched in worry.

Usiku did her best to not watch as Subu pawed at the hare. It was normal for him to bring her hares, and she normally loved them. But today it was the last thing she had wanted to see, smell or eat...another sign of the inevitable. Her eyes fell to the ground, well no not quite the ground, but she made it appear like she was looking at the ground. In reality she was glancing at her stomach. It was still small but it would grow bigger soon enough. She couldn't exactly hold this secret from Subu forever, he was bound to notice eventually.

"Good." She told him when Subu said that he did indeed loved her. "Cause our lives are about to get a bit more complicated now." Okay so that's not exactly how she wanted to word it, but she was scared and mad as hell about it. She could have blurted it out but it would probably not have come out right. Slowly Usiku raised her head to look at Subu. "I'm pregnant." There she said it, though she had to do her best to hold back her anger and frustration at the idea of being a mother. She set her paws firmly on the ground awaiting his reaction.

Their lives were going to get more complicated? Subu wasn't sure exactly what that meant - Had she found someone else? a Pack? maybe some nutty member of her family had emerged from the shadows to cause them trouble? Alright that one was a little bit far fetched he admitted to himself but what could she possibly mean by complicated? They had a pretty carefree life right now and as far as he could see there wasn't any rea...

"Oh.."

It was a verbalization of his thoughts as in oh..thats how it would get more complicated, but Subu thought perhaps that Usiku would see it as a somewhat negative response and Subu was anything but negative towards this news. Letting out a happy yip he bounced around her in a circle crowing "I'm going to be a dad!"

Usiku's heart sank just a little when he said 'Oh.' Clearly he wasn't happy about the news, much like she wasn't. But then he started circling her like a happy puppy. Puppy...that word frightened her more than anything. She had to close her eyes as he bounced around her, that was almost worse that the dead hare. "Would you stop that!" She snapped at him. Gods he was making her dizzy and sick at the same time.

She lowered herself to the ground, a small rumble coming from her. "This is all your fault you know." She knew she shouldn't be too mad at him, and after all it was as much her fault as it was him. But she needed some outlet for her anger and Subu was as good of target as any right now. If the hare didn't bother her stomach so much she would go over there and rip it apart in sheer frustration. The last thing Usiku ever wanted was a family. Families fell apart, much like her old one had. Well no that wasn't true, it hadn't fallen apart, it had merely turned its back on her at a young age, forcing her out.

Subu chuckled slightly as Usiku snapped at him but he did stop bouncing circles around her "Sorry" He said licking her behind the ears as he came to stand near her while she lay on the ground "It's just exciting news" He said in voice still quivering with excitement - sure they hadn't planned on having pups anytime soon but it was a little late to put that into practice now wasn't it? Honestly he wasn't sure if Usiku had ever wanted puppies at all, but didn't all females want children eventually? Maybe - how should he know.

Laying down beside her he couldn't help but chuckled again "All my fault huh? I'm not sure thats entirely true - but I"ll leave you your delusions for now" He told her happily "But it won't be so very bad - we'll make a great family" He encouraged her.

She was relieved that he stopped bouncing around her. She let out a huff at his exciting news comment. Perhaps to him it was, but to Usiku this was more like the end of the world. Resting her head on her paws she lay there queitly for quite some time. There was something she had never told Subu before, about her family, which in effect made her the anger dog he had grown to love. But when he said they would make a great family she figured now was as good of time as any to tell him.

Usiku turned her head so that she faced away from him. "I don't know about that. Family doesn't mean much to me." She paused for a second, letting out a sigh. Just get it over with she told herself. "My family forced me out when I was just a pup. As for the why...well I'd rather not say. I don't know what it's like to be in a loving family. I've been on my own ever since then...until I met you." Perhaps now he would understand why she was always mad, always pulled away from affection. It wasn't necessarily that she didn't like the attention, she just didn't know how to properly react to it. Everything was still so foreign to her and that made her just as mad as the thought of her old family did.

Subu listened quietly as Usiku revealed a part of her history he had never heard before - it certainly explained a few things about why she was the way she was and Subu in the back of his mind had always assumed something in her past must have dictated her current personality. He couldn't fathom however being turned away from his family at such a young age - how had she found a way to survive? It must have been terribly hard on her both physically and mentally.

"Just because your family was terrible to you - doesn't mean you will be terrible yourself" He assured her in a loving tone, nipping at her ear playfully as she continued to look away from him. Was he ashamed of her past? She shouldn't be - it had been a great feat to survive such a beginning and thought undoubtedly painful she ought to be proud of her accomplishment. "I believe you will be a great mother"

Turning her head Usiku gave him a lick after he nipped at her ear. Well if anything else she at least had Subu now, and that would relieve some of the stress off of her.Tough honestly the idea of being a mother still scared the crap out of her. "But how can I be a great mother when I was never shown what a mother should be?" Her mother had all but ignored her as a pup, sure she had fed Usiku, but that was more out of motherly instinct than love. As soon as Usiku was old deemed old enough to survive her mother and father had chased her off. It hadn't been fair at all, they loved her siblings but not her. Wouldn't it put a thorn in her mothers side to know that Usiku had survived after all these years.

Leaning her head against Subu's shoulder she let out a sigh. "I will do my best, but I wouldn't hold your breath if I was you." Usiku promised him. "Though we should probably find a better spot to live now, someplace with a well protected den." If she was going to try and be a good mother she had better start now, that way Usiku would hopefully be ready for when the puppies came.

Subu pondered her question for a few moments before answered, his brow furrowed in thought, as far as he knew most motherly things were instinct weren't they? Although it sounded like Usikus mother had had a few rocks loose in her head - he couldn't think of any other reason why they would have chased her off. Subu was pretty sure that Usiku wouldn't accept the instinct answer however so he tried to come up with something a bit more substantial.

"Well" He started after a few moments "You remember what you wanted from your mother don't you?" Of course she must, else why would it have scarred her so terribly "I say start with giving the pups what you wanted and see where that takes you" He finally concluded with a slight bob of his head - yes that sounded like good advice to him and he really couldn't think of a better way to explain it.

"But yes we will need to find a more protected place - can't have any rogue beasts coming about to harm them" He agreed, standing up and shaking out his pelt before glancing about "Which way should we go?"

Usiku bobbed her head in agreement. "Yes I suppose that's a good way to put it." She would have to remember that bit of advice, give the pups what she had wanted when she was young. Well there had been a lot of things she had craved as a pup and was never given, but hopefully her pups wouldn't need that many things. If they did...well then Subu would hopefully help fill in the gaps.

Standing she stretched out her sore muscled and glanced around for a moment. Well so far they had just been wandering around, not really looking for a place to settle down. Usiku searched her memory for any place she had seen in the past little while that would be suitable but none came to mind. "I guess we can go in that direction." She motioned with her muzzle to the west. They were yet to travel in that direction so chances are they would find something that could be their new home. "Come on then, daylight is burning." She said in her usual snippy tone and she began to walk towards the direction she had indicated.

Subu beamed when she agreed that his advice was worth listening too - it wasn't often that Usiku agreed with what he said without at least arguing about it a bit first. Not that Subu minded -that was just the way she was and he didn't want her any other way. "Seems like as good a direction as any" Subu agreed as he turned his gaze in the direction she had indicated, he couldn't recall passing any suitable place in their wanderings so far - at least none that were close enough to make it worthwhile returning too, so heading off in an as yet unexplored direction seemed like the best course of action to him.

"W're going to have to come up with names" she told her as he trailed at her heels, still quite gleeful about this whole situation "I wonder if they will look more like you or like me - I rather hope they get your darker color..though I shall love them no matter what" he continued on - talking more to himself it seemed then to her.

Usiku continued on with Subu right behind her, though her pace was a bit slower than normal, more out of being trapped in thought than anything else. She shook her head at Subu. "I don't think we have to worry about names just yet." It would still be a while before the pups were born so why worry about something as silly as names right now. But that made her wonder, was this the start of being a bad parent, thinking that coming up with names before the pups were even born was a silly idea. Well she doubted that...but if it was, well then she was off to a good start.

Usiku and Subu traveled most of the day looking for a spot they could call home for the next little while. It was by far no easy task, but they had time to search. As night approached Usiku found a small nook of trees to claim for the night. Settling down beside Subu she found her thoughts wouldn't let her rest much. There was so much on her mind, about the Subu, the pups, finding a home and just exactly what the future would hold. Closing her eyes she tried to block out those thoughts in order to sleep, she could think more on them during the day. For now she needed sleep. Letting out a sigh she slowly drifted off, Subu's warmth both a comfort and an annoyance.
