Adela was making her way along a wooded path, having gone well out of her usual stomping ground to try to practice ice skating. She was still not very good at it, but least now she could do a little more other than fall over and spin awkwardly in a circle. Though she had scampered off the ice quickly when it had started to creek and crack. Seemd it was getting thinner, maybe that ment that spring was coming.
Thid thought made her happy and sad, she had really enjoyed her first winter and the snow that gad fallen. She had made new friends and learnt new things. But she also looked forward to spring and summer, being able to swim again and roll in the grass and sunbathe. These thoughts made her so happy that she closed her eyes as she imagined the fun to come. So it was only a matter of time before she walked into something or someone.

The air brought a mellow chill to Neria's coat and she shuffled her feathers, tucking them closer to her sides to keep warmer. It wasn't as cold as it had been which was a relief. Few signs of spring had been popping up around the lands as of late; shorter nights, buds, the lack of frost glistening across the grass. It was all very beautiful in winter, but the sun needed to come back! The long endless hours of pouring it down rain - she loved running and walking in it.
After trailing down from Eden, the herds homelands once again she decided to take a different route this time, which would be a quick right at the bottom of the mountain, through the clearing and towards the river. It had been a long time since the last casual stroll to the river and before winter left fully, she wanted to see what had become of it.
Flicking out the large headwings, they caught the air as she trotted merrily through the lands, gliding elegantly. She even closed her eyes to savouir the wonderful feeling which was when her utter most obvious clumsy ways kicked in.
Neria went trotting straight into something big! This was BIG, soquili size big and before she and the other figure knew it they were on the floor tumbling across th grass and towards the river! "EEeeeep! I-I'm so sorry!" She shouted, confused as all she saw was green, brown, the blue of the sky, more green and then... Crack.
Was that... Ice?

Adela had gotten her long mane tangled as she tumbled, coming to an abrupt stop before the ice. Blinking as she registers the pain of the yank that her mane had just had, and the sound of someone trying to apologise. Struggleing to her feet and pulling on the branch to get loose, seeing the voice in a flurry of feathers heading right into the river. Actually onto the river, but the ice gave that ominous crack again.
Pulling hard, her hair caught tightly on the fallen branch. Ending up draging it along as she goes to help the wings and feathers off the ice. "Umm you might want to get off of the ice carefully, its been making creepy noises." Looking for a way to help, pretty sure that getting on the ice would get them both soaked. "Ummm... Are you ok to get off the ice?"

Ok, so only she, like an idiot had ended up on the ice. Thankfully the other was safe from this whole mishap on the banking. Moving the large wing, that had flopped over her face she saw the young face of another mare which brought some relief. She then looked down at the tangled mess of legs and hooves, feathers scattered under and across the ice where the twigs and tugged and ripped. So much for looking elegant...
She slowly tried arranging her two front hooves neatly on the ice, the back two still crossed, worrying that one wrong move could send her under. She had never seen it happen but the two leggers had spoke of lost loved ones who had fallen under the ice. An "Icy Grave" they would say.
"N-no don't worry!!" She called out in a sing song voice trying to keep calm about the situation and look as happy as she usually was. It wasn't that far of a crawl to the banking. Or was that hope? With a huge gulp, she tried to push up but another sharp sounding crack twanged along the glittering blannket, daring her to try it.
"Erm... Or maybe not!" she whispered to herself, glancing back over to the mare, now only noticing the mess she had made. The mare had a large broken stick tangled in her hair and instantly she felt bad, even more so the mare was asking if 'she' was alright.
She could do this! Show some independance, and gain some dignity doing it! "I'll be fine! It'll just take a minuet." She smiled with false promise and stared down at the ice.
'work with me here, pleeeease mr ice' the thought whined hopelessly inside.

watches as the other young mare gets her feet in order, thne jumps as the ice makes another creepy crack. Looking round for a way to help, the branch swinging a little in her hair, it tapping her legs and giving her an idea. "Oooh oooh! Stay still I have an idea!" Moving down so she was right on the edge of the bank, one leg on the ice. Sitting down so it was like she was going to lay down. Tossing her head she sent the branch in her hair over to the other mare. "Try and get hold of it somehow, and call when you have it." Not looking, having made sure that the whole length of her really long hair had been used. Waiting for the call to pull her back to the bank, wishing she hadn't been daydreaming with her eyes closed.
But then she had grown up seeing Ab have his little mishaps, so as long as she could get the mare back safe and sound it would be fine. Afterall as long as no one got hurt that was the important thing. Hoping to get the winged mare back safely. It hitting her that the mare had wings, but having no idea how flying worked so she wasn't even going to suggest she fly off the ice.

The mare offered help and curiously Neria twisted her head side ways, distracted from the icy glare that had been taunted her since her 'intrustion.' She told her to stay still but it wasn't like she could go anywhere else in this state! Obediently, she stayed where she was feeling small burning patches along her coat where the ice was starting to freeze to her fur. That wasn't going to be enjoyable. Her mouth twisted awkwardly at the uncomfortable situation.
Before long, the stranger had thrown out her long beautiful locks of hair, although tattered with the branch woven between it towards her and the only thing that she could think of, despite the situation was a young childrens story that made her beam with a childlike happiness! "oh wow! Your really offering me your hair! I might hurt you though and what if it pulls out some? No, i can't do that to you!" She worried, looking at the branch.
The silent cracks were making it very tempting... Was it better than the mare having to deal with a drowned horse though? 'Just take it Neeeeria quiiickly before you die!' her mind squeaked and without thought her mouth snapped before she even moved, taking a hold of the branch - with a little neck strain but it would have to do!
"J'ok! Gwot tit!" She muffled through her teeth urgently wondering if this was really going to end well.

Adela herd the muffled 'Got it' and dug her 3 hooves into the cold hard earth. She wasn't big or muscular, but she had grown up running with fast stallions so her legs were strong. Getting up, this already starting to pull the other mare, peeking and hoping that she could keep hold. Though the ice might not last so she couldn't hesitate. Grittign her teeth she started away from the river. Her mane hurting from pulling her over the ice, but luckily there was little friction so she moved pretty easily. Sure she had lost a few stands but that didn't matter, it would grow back, and heavens knew she had more than enough of the stuff.
Pulling more slowly when the resistance got worse, pretty sure this meant that she was at the bank, but wanting to keep pulling a little to help her this way off the ice rather than slipping back onto it. Just keeping a steady pull going to help her off the ice.

She had managed to spread out her wings, letting them stroke the ice so it helped her petite frame along it easier, as well as helped the one saving her pull her across. Shortly after the rescue mission had been at hand Neria threw her two front hooves forward and pushed off the thin ice with her back legs, gliding over the mare with enough spring just to miss her and land slanted on the banking.
"PHEW! That was close!" She sighed deeply, looking down at the ice as the remains rippled and broke into several pieces, once again revealing the water underneath. She looked to the helpful stranger with grateful eyes and a more than friendly smile.
"Thank you so much! I am so sorry for all the mess - heavens! I need to watch where I'm going I just never expected the river to be so.. Close!" the words came out so fast, it was hard for even herself to keep up with it. With a quick bunny like hop forwards, she nuzzled the others cheek in appreciation, tail wagging loosely behind.
"I hope your alright, that branch looks awfully painful in all your hair. The least I could do is try help you get it out.. Oh and, my names Neria! Whats yours?"

Adela stops when the pulling on her hair stops, turning to see if the other was ok, only to see the broken ice on the water. Turning to see where she went, the branch tapping against her legs as she turns, just in time to see the winged mare land.
Blinking a little surprised at the sudden launch but that soon changing to a happy and friendly smile. "That was amazing!" Looking over the mare that had 2 sets of wings. Grinning and shaking her nead. "No no I was wandering along with my eyes closed in my own dream world, so I am the one who needs to mind where she goes." The white patch on the tip of her nose pink with embarassment. But not able to stop smiling, liking this other mare instantly, and finding the tail wagging cute, though she was trying not to stare.
Looking down at the branch when the other mare mentions it. "Its more uncomfortable than painful, but I would appreciate the help is untangling myself." Smiling back at the mare. "Neria, such a pretty name! I'm Adela, though anyone that knows me well calls me Addy." Giving a really cheerful smile.

"Addy?" She reassured, liking the name and how much this other mare smiled! She seemed really sweet and with how well she was taking the incident made Neria all happy inside. She smiled much more brightly. "Thank you! You have a really pretty name too!"
"oh, right! Lets get this branch out of your mane then." With a light chuckle, she arched her neck down to bite a hold of the branch, trying to study an easy way to untangle it without yanking out the Caramel locks. Surprisingly, this looked harder than she thought it would be. First off, she put a hoof on some of the trailing hair and gently tugged on the stick.
"Is that too much tugging, or is it painful at all?"

The tugging drawing the occasional wince, but otherwise it was no worse than some of the groomings she had recieved. "No thats fine, though if its badly tangled it might be better to find something to cut it off." Shrugging, she could be a dreamer but she was also practical, besides the hair would grow back. But even with the odd wince she was still smiling. "I knew there was a reason to be glad for my long hair, good thing I took after my father huh?" Guessing at this as she had never met him, but she knew her mother had short hair. "Besides don't worry too much whatever comes out will grow back." Giving another reasuring smile, not seeming too bothered with the predicament, as they were both fine and no one was hurt, so there was nothing to fuss over. Some tangled hair was the worst of it.

Neria gasped! whilst the stick fell back down with the tangled hair, she was willing to cut her hair and didn't seem bothered by it? It was quite shocking not many would sacrafice such long, silky hair. Neria nodded at Addy's reasurance with a sweet smile and lifted her head. "If that's ok by you, it might be better off being cut out. Shouldn't take long to grow back." She hoped inside as she searched for the floor for anything that would help cut it unless her horn would have its uses in this area?
"Hmm.. How do you propose we cut it? I have my horn.. I don't know if that would help us out?" She asked clueless, tilting her head to the side.

Adela gives her an easy grin and looks round, trying to find a piece of broken flint. "If we can find some broken flint that will cut it, as long as I keep it pulld tight, it wont cut well if its not tight. Wandering a little and nosing about, snuffleing under bushes and round by trees, eventually finding what she was looking for and bringing it back over to Neria. "Here you go, cut with the thin edge of that, it might take a little while but it will cut it."
Moving over by some old trees, passing through them, the branch in her hair snagging on them, moving up the trunks a little as she pulls her mane tight. "There you go, if you can cut it down by the broken branch then I can wander round free, and maybe no one will notice my hair being a little shorter." Grinning, pretty sure it would be dragging again pretty soon.

Neria nodded. She was a smart mare as Neria would have never even thought of collecting broken flint to cut it with. She took the flint in her mouth once Adela had passed her it and watched her until she was in a comfortable position or was in a good enough one to pull her mane tight.
Neria took a deep breath in hoping that this next stunt would turn out alright. She trotted over to where Adela was and looked up and down the mane, especially where the branch was tangled, studying the closest place it would be smoothest so that she wouldn't lose too much hair.
Figuring out where, she began to rup the sharp flint back and forth, slowly each strand of mane ripped and ripped till it was all cut out the branch tumbling down side of the tree and onto the floor. The locks of caramel spoofed out of it.
"There we go! How does that feel?" She asked, skipping up to her with a large achieved smile on her face like she had returned a good deed.

Adela smiles at the other mare and gives her head a shake, her mane falling back into place, though it was shorter now. It actually felt good, and oddly lighter. Looking down, her mane no longer brushing on the ground. "Maybe I should get my tail cut too..." Musing to herself, liking the more free feeling that having slightly shorter hair was giving her.
"Thanks" Grinning at Neria, knowing it wont take long for her mane to grow and be dragging along again, but she could enjoy this loose free feeling for a little while. Though she was sure her mother would hate it if she caught sight of it. Not that she really cared, but then she didn't want to think on her family or lack there of.
"Feels great actually..." Smiling but not sure what else to say, Neria not really looking like any other soquili she had ever met, though she was pretty, just a little odd compared to what Adela knew of soquili. But then it took all types so what did it matter. "Where were you headed?"
