Bear was off on his own again, this time watching water lions dive and play in the ocean. He felt confused, not sure why he was born with fish-like appendages and yet he was not adept at swimming like those were who were born with scales and fins. His wings looked like fins, but they didn't help him all that much while in the water. On days like these he often thought about the possibility of others like himself. Not exactly lions, no...something more...something different, strange even. He hoped to find an answer to that someday.
Now as he watched the water lions swim underwater he dipped his paws into the cool water, allowing himself to relax to the welcome sounds of the ocean. It always sent him into a happier place even on his most stressful days. His only real worry was if he was alone in this world. But all well....

There was a loud crash a few feet away. As usual, Ember had manage to fall out of the air. She giggled as she hung out of the tree from one of her back feet. "You'd think that these blasted things would actually allow some upward momentum" She chuckled some more then gingerly reached up to remove her foot and fell to the ground with a thump. She lay there, a raucously laughing pile of fur and wings.

Hearing a rather loud crash Bear got up and surveyed the area until he spotted an orange and yellow lioness. She seemed to be having a grand time, and he would've let things go on. But he saw she had odd features. His heart skipped a beat as he padded over, taking in her short tail and the feathers on her head. Her laughter was contagious and soon he was chuckling too. "Well hello there. It looks like you took a big fall, you alright?"

She turned her head when she heard his voice. She'd been so busy with the tree she hadn't noticed anything else, much less him or the water lions playing. Her mouth fell open as she surveyed him. He was a poke-lion like herself. She'd know a few but had never manged to meet him before. She stifled the last of the giggles that still plagued her and addressed him. "Oh I'm fine. I tend to do that a lot. With varying degrees of aches and bruises. Luckily the tree manged to break must of my fall." She picked up a feather off her wing that the tree has manged to wrench loose. "You see. I don't fly very well though I keep doing it thinking I'll be able to someday." She grinned at the feather as she held it up to the light. "But I fear if I keep landing in trees I'll have no feathers left to fly with" She rolled onto her side to grin at him then. "Wanna help me up? See if I permanently hurt anything?"

"I know the feeling. I cannot swim right even though my wings are built more like two big fins." He moved closer, helping her up carefully. "Do you hurt anywhere in particular?" He looked around her limbs, then inspected her wings hoping she wasn't hurt too badly.

She shook herself to make sure everything was still in place. Everything pretty much felt okay. She tucked her wings in close carefully and shook the foot that had be hanging from the tree. "I'm okay. The foot that was hanging out of the tree is sore but I've done worse to myself. I was one haled up in a tiny hole in the wall cave, in the rain for three days after spraining a wing. Not one of my most graceful landings, I can tell you." She giggled and then walked towards the water for a drink. "Say, since I don't feel like flyin' back just yet, can I stay here with you for a while?"

He watched as she checked herself for injury, stepping back to give her some space. Hearing about how she'd gotten stuck in a cave because of a bad wing reminded him of his own mishap. "Well...if it's any help I once jumped into the water too fast and ended up covered in several clams holding onto my nose and paws hard..." He chuckled, smiling at her. "Oh sure! I'm not doing anything really. I'm Bear by the way, what is your name?"

She laughed with him at him mishap then grinned from ear to ear when he accepted her company. "I'm Ember. Say, do you know many poke-lions? I've only met a few and I was very young then. I think I remember meeting a water type like you. Not sure. Though I know I've never met you before. I'd remember you handsome." She winked at him cheekily and then continued on as if she hadn't said anything. "I'm a fire type...I think. I can't manipulate it but I am orange. You think I have trouble with flight because of the tail or because of my wings? Maybe I'm a type of poke-lion who just dosen't fly well. I dunno. Say, you got anything to eat around here? I'm starved." She curled up in a half circle on the ground then and gave him a questioning look.

He sat down and just listened to her as she spoke. Poke-lions? There were more of them in this world? Any tension in his body immediatly dispersed, a happy smile on his maw. When she winked at him he tilted his head, not sure how to react to that, but noting how she moved on he soon forgot it. "I'm a poke-lion hmm? I thought I was alone in the world." His ears perked up at the question of food. "I may not be a good swimmer or have control of water abilities, but I'm great at fishing if you'd like some. There are several kinds in the water here that taste delicious."

She blinked gaped at him in surprise but it soon passed. "You didn't know you were a poke-lion? You sure look like one to me." She clucked to herself and continued on. "There are a few of us. We're not common or anything. My first memories are of babies like me. A green one, a blue one and me. There might have been a few others. I dunno. I've been by myself most of my life. But I knew I was different as a grew because I changed colors when other lions just grew into their markings." She shrugged as if it didn't matter. Her ears perked at the mention of fish. "Fish! That sounds wonderful! Can I watch while you catch them?"

He looked at himself remembering that he'd been the same way. He hadn't exactly grown into markings like the rest. But then again...no she was right. He was a poke-lion like she'd said. He smiled at her, listening to her recounting of others like them in that they too were poke-lions. He hoped to meet some of them eventually. "Sure thing. I'll go fishing right over here..." He walked into the cold water until it reached his sides, then he leaned back on his hind legs and held his front paws up like a bear would, standing stock-still. After a few moments he swung one paw down and swatted a live squirming fish onto the beach, followed by two more. Satisfied he headed back up.

She was entirely too curious as he stood there in the water in such a strange fashion but then her jaw dropped when he flicked that first fish out of the water lightning quick and then two and three. Instinctively she grappled the fishes before they could flap back into the water but her attention was on him. "That was so cool! I usually just waggle around stupidly in the water until I get one in my mouth. Can you teach me how to do that? Awesome!" She turned her attention back to slippery bodies in her paws and quickly bite them into death and then chewed happily on one. He was right. This one was delicious. She gnawed happily and hummed to herself as she ate. "Thank you Bear."

He laughed once he caught the last flopping fish in his paws and bit it's neck to silence it. This poke-lioness was certainly somebody he hoped to befriend and hang out with a lot. While she gnawed on one he began eating his own, purring as the meat melted in his mouth. His ears perked at her question. "Well sure! I don't see why not. It takes a while to get just right, but you'll be catching fish in no time." Once he'd finished it and buried the bones, he hated them himself, he sat up and wiped his mouth of with the back of his paw. "Your welcome Ember." He smiled at her warmly.

She yawned when she finished her last fish but she had noticed he buried his bones so she did too. "I'll sleepy now Bear. You fed me so well. I think it's nap time." Absently she licked a paw and cleaned her one of her ears. "But I think asking you to share your sleeping spot is a bit too much. If you don't mind I'll just lie here and you can do whatever you want while I nap." She smiled then yawned again. If nothing else, with him around she'd never go hungry. "I'd ask you to curl up with me but I don't think we know each other that well yet."
