Okay. Today was the day. No more skirting around, no more excuses. She was going to talk to someone today, and it was going to be her choice to do so. No more waiting around for things to happen, no more being scared once they happened. She was starting over in a new place, and she needed to give herself a bit of a makeover and come out of her self-made protective bubble.
With a bit of shaky legs, she emerged from her usual hiding spot, scanning the pride's lands. It seemed to full of life, lions chatting here, children playing there. The clans spent more time with one another, and mingled more than they used to, or so she understood. It all sounded like the usual thing to her. The Festival that she had been a part of had been incredible; everything else must be as well.
Slowly, her feet carried her out more into the open, the warm sun encouraging her to stick it out, she could do it!
But...who to talk to?

Somewhere out along the path, on a large rock, the short and somewhat chubby Waikiki lay, belly facing the bright sunlight. His tail flicked back and fourth as he hummed to himself, unaware of anyone or anything else. He didn't care that he was an odd spectacle at that moment - A grown lion, though he was about the size of and adolescent without a care in the world - unaware of the timid lioness that was nearing.
Though all that was rather common for Waikiki. The butter-colored lion made it a habit not to worry about what anyone thought. He lived his life moment by moment, enjoying what he was given, instead of striving for what he doesn't already have. It was a stress free life.

Her brown eyes finally located on a target. Success! Now to actually approach him. Gulp.
She took a little time, as he didn't seem too rushed with anything. Quite the opposite, in fact. Feeling like that moment were it was fight or flight, be kept going against the feeling of fleeing. What was there to be scared of? He looked really harmless, as well, most of the pride did. There were no grounds into why she was so nervous; she needed to lose it. She approached him, the sleepy mass that he was, and smiled just a little bit. Okay, go!
"Hi! How're you today?" she asked, the words flying out of her mouth faster than she could control. Whooops. She looked a little embarassed, but there was no going back and acting like she hadn't said anything. Her thoughts were plastered on her expressive, nervous face.

Waikiki looked at her upside-down from where his head hung off the rock towards the path. He grinned. "Well Hiya!" Hmn,...she didn't seem to have been born into the pride, judging from her lack of tattoos. She must have joined back in the festival like he did! He didn't remember many of the new lions that joined - there were so many!
Waikiki rolled over so he was right side up. "The name's Waikiki. What's yours?"

She had chosen him since he didn't seem like a lifelong member of the pride, and perhaps they would have something more in common. Being newcomers to a new land would surely bring up some good conversation, right? As long as she could keep her half going...
As he spoke, she couldn't resist a smile. At least she hadn't made herself too much of a fool right off the bad. She bobbed her head and brushed one of her paws on the grassy ground below her, feeling a little shy still.
"I'm Muujiza," she said brightly, with only a hint of a pause. "It's nice to meet you. I ah...haven't really socialized much since joining when the Festival took place."
Please, hopefully she was doing a good job with her subject manner.

"Ah! Yeah! The festival was awesome, wasn' it?" Waikiki's eyes were bright at the mention of it. He always loved a good party, and was a real entertainer at heart. He didn't mind making a fool of himself, if it got others to laugh and be happy.
"Eh, yeah. I really haven't met a lotta the others either. It's kinda a draaaag, really. Havin' no one to enjoy the nice sunny days with." Why had he ever left his siblings in the first place? They'd all been a fun-loving lot, and there was never a dull moment when they were all together.
Well, one way or another, he'd ended up here, and he guessed he was staying. He'd just have to make some new friends.

She smiled. Alright, able to get somewhere!
"It was really incredible," she said, remembering just how much went on, and all the new faces (well, everyone was a new face to her, but it was nice not being the only new one). "I've never been though anything like that before."
Feeling a little brave, she plopped herself down near him, so as to make herself relax, and hopefully make the whole situation a little more casual. If she was the only one standing, well....it made her feel a little awkward.
"If it isn't too pushy...may I ask where you come from?" The markings on his body were like nothing she had ever seen, and she wondered if he was from a much further land.

"My family lived somewhere near the ocean. We weren't part of a pride or anything. It was just us - mom, dad, and my five other siblings. Heh! All boys. Man, what mom ever outnumbered!" Oh, and they had caused tons of trouble back in the day - often with the help of dear old dad. Mom was the one that held up the 'house' in their 'household'. It certainly wasn't her genes that contributed to their wild ways!
"It was always warm, and always sunny!"

Muujiza laughed. It was very neat to listen into the different kind of lives others had. Her's was different, and she had never really assumed what else her family life could have been like. Hard to, when you really only know what you've been through yourself. Still...
"That's wonderful!" she exclaimed. "I could feel bad for you mother as well, my!" She shook her head, letting the last of her laughs fade off. She caught her breathe, and nodded her head. "I only recall bits of my father, he died when I was young. My mother always told wonderful stories of him to me and my sisters. I really enjoyed it, and never really felt like I was missing out on anything with him gone." She shrugged, hoping that she wasn't ruining the mood!
"It sounds like a very lovely place," she said with a no, taking her turn to answer her own question. "I don't come from anywhere in particular, not near the ocean or a lake or anything. Still, it feels different enough in these lands that it'll take some getting used to to call it home. It is nice to start fresh somewhere, on your own, holding your own reins to life!"

"Ah, yeah. I guess you can't really miss what ya never really knew to begin with..." Waikiki replied as he pawed at his mane to put stray hairs back in place.
"Ya, this place is pretty neat, though I still need ta get around to findin' the best swimmin' spot." some hobbies were hard to repress. "What about you, you ever swim before?"

Muujiza shook her head softly. "N-no, I mean, I've never thought about actually going in the water before..." She had seen some other animals do it, but then, most of the animals were crocodiles, and those were certainly nothing to mess with.
"Is it...safe?" she asked, though it was a naive, silly, and foolish question. She flushed for a moment and shook her head. "Sorry, sorry. It must be, or else you probably wouldn't do it a lot, right?"
Stupid, stupid, Muujiza. Good going.

"uh,...well," Waikiki seemed to think a moment, looking off to the side before looking back at Muujiza, smiling brightly, "I've never really thought about it! Haha!" ... Indeed, Waikiki was pretty much care free, and had never really thought about what might lurk in the waters he swam in. Ignorance was bliss though, and he wasn't going to begin to let the thought trouble him.

Muujiza laughed. "Well, it must be safe enough to enjoy it so much, and never have anything to worry about." Her tail twitched as she flushed a bit. "I admit, I worry a bit, a trait I inherited from my family."
Still..."It sounds interesting. If only the river here wasn't full of crocodiles here, I'd ask you to show me how to swim." If only Muujiza could get over her inherent....not fear, but dislike of water. It must feel nice in the dry, hot summer heat.
"Maybe we could try it the next time we meet?" she said. "I think it's my turn to hunt, but I would love to see you again sometime!" Er,, maybe she shouldn't have used the word love, but that's what came out. Oh well.
Now she was flustered, and ran off. "S-sorry! I'll make it up to you!" And she ran off to find the new rotation of hunters in the Bird Clan. Hunting might help her forget how she embarrassed herself. Maybe.
